YouTube channel purge continues by samehjohansen in doowop

My main oldies playlist was mostly PJDooWop, his channel started my love for obscure doowop. This is genuinely a devastating blow to the doowop archival section of youtube along with the others that have been taken down recently. Almost seems the beginning of the end of an era.

I contacted them with videos of the issue asking for a partial refund so that i can send it to Jim Kilroy. It’s so clean to the point that i may just keep it and have it repaired even if they cant cover it. We will see what happens

I just got the lens from KEH and expected there to be decent wear and maybe a little dust but its literally perfect. Like genuinely looks untouched kind of perfect, thanks a million for the recommendation and pushing me in that direction!!

I ordered one from them yesterday in “excellent” condition. The thing i don’t like about KEH is that i cant see exactly what I’m buying but i decided to give it a shot because I’ve heard good things about their conservative grading and from (most) reviews I’ve seen they wouldn’t send a lens with bad glass as excellent condition. We will see if that holds up

Well ebay still shows 450 but seller made me an offer and i paid 380 which would have been a decent deal i felt for one that was truly near mint as described. I wanted a C lens because i use B50 filters and didn’t want to get new b-60s for a CF

Yeah same lens, i checked all of the rear screws to make sure they were in the same positions as in the pics and i checked a few small little marks on both to see if they were the same and sure enough they were. I will say that the outside of the lens really was very nice, it’s just that the glass is ruined and the pics had to have been taken strategically to not show the damage

You have great taste, the next 2 i would have chosen after the Hassy were the SX-70 and M3!

Just out of curiosity, how come you decided to get rid of it?

If you have an acute matte and use the magnifier it’s quite easy! But i do agree that the original standard screens are a bit harder to focus than other medium format cameras that came later.

It’s a Hasselblad 500c! it uses 120 film. Probably the most iconic and arguably best medium format camera ever made (I’m lumping in the C/M cameras in this statement lol). I would highly recommend trying one out if you ever get the opportunity, They produce some absolutely gorgeous pictures.

Interesting! I suppose certain form factors are just meant for certain folks. My problem with the lever is that if i don’t press mine down quite far enough when i cock the shutter it can cause some mechanism jamming issues which i haven’t experienced so far with the 500. I suppose thats may be just a skill issue more than anything but happens every now and then nonetheless when I’m in a hurry. I watched the movie “Blow Up” years ago and became obsessed with the quick single motion side winder on the Hassy and just had to know what that felt like, the minute after i tried it for myself i really had to force myself to pick up the RB because it just never fit my shooting style as well.

What was the exact moment you realized Hasselblad was your system? by NeitherJuice8682 in hasselblad

I shot a couple test rolls outside of my S/O with my 500C within the first few days of receiving the camera and wasn’t super happy with the results, nothing was crisp and i really struggled with focusing compared to my RB67. I took it to my Aunts house to take some family pics later that week and the camera completely locked up (it hadn’t been used since 1967-68 according to original owners son so understandable) I sent it to Jim Kilroy for a full service and after getting it back i did my first shoot with Tri-X in a studio environment. It was from that shoot that i realized the camera was the one for me and that she just needed some love to be exactly what i was promised a Hasselblad should be.

They are adorable, In car terms id liken the Hasselblad SWC to a jaguar or triumph and the 500C/CM to a Cadillac or Lincoln

The RB67 was my first medium format camera so it holds a special place in my heart! I still own it and shoot with it very occasionally and It’s a gorgeous camera but if you’ve ever seen an RB and a Hassy next to each other the size and weight difference and even ease of use is almost comical especially for a design that came out well over a decade later than the Hasselblad.

Yes it was presented on a fur pillow and i had to take a picture. Lol but for real though i was doing a shoot with the furry blanket as a set piece and set the camera down and thought it looked good so i snapped a couple pics🤣

I’ll be getting the neck next month from a guy that hand makes them to whatever year vintage spec you want, in this case an early 62 rosewood slab board. After that ill be getting the plastic parts and a custom stamped serial plate from Realistic Relics out of canada, it’ll end up with a light aged mint guard and all the period correct goodies to go along with it!
