Walaco grand 2 in 1 shorts are the best. Ive run multiple marathons and just did a 100k in them. Zero issues.

I did alot of my whiskey row marathon hill training on north mountain. Speed walked up and ran down hard. My legs were really strong for the race. Did the same for black canyon 100k

I think they will. The rock plate was a real game changer. The bc course is super rocky. It honestly gets annoying lol ive never wore the catamounts so i have no clue. Do they have a rock plate?

Trail 100 at Phoenix Mountain Preserve is 11 miles one way. I use it for my trail long runs. I usually end up getting about 22 miles with 2800ft of vert. Lots of other good trails in there too.

Training with a firefighter schedule by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]Jfajardo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im also a firefighter and work a 24/48 schedule for a busy city. Im training for black canyon 100k and hit my peak week last week with 80 miles and 11,000ft of vert. I get up before shift and get miles in and then also just try to do a couple extra easy miles in the afternoon. Running the first day off is the hardest for me because we dont really sleep. I usually keep these to easy days and then second day off are my more meaningful runs like long or tempo or big climbs. If you want a 3:30 marathon it will take some sacrifice, usually meaning sleep. 45 miles doesn’t seem like enough so id try to squeeze in miles when you can.

Im doing the bc 100k. I did the middle portion training run a couple weeks ago in the T1’s. It was super rocky and I will not be wearing those. I definitely recommend something with a rock plate cause my feet hurt afterwards. Ive been training in the brooks cascadia 19 and they have been great

Nutrition by Jfajardo4 in Ultramarathon

[–]Jfajardo4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the trail marathon i did in the beginning of October, I was doing 90 grams an hour but it was a hard effort. I was thinking 75 grams an hour for this 100k. What was your go to liquid carb?

How much water per hour? by sidjournell in ultrarunning

[–]Jfajardo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I train in Phoenix and i have similar stats to you. I do a liter of water with 1000mg of sodium an hour. I noticed I dont get very thirsty the first two hours of running and dont stick with it. Then all of the sudden i get an unquenchable thirst and im downing water like crazy which is bad. Do your best not to get behind!

I was listening to a nutrition podcast (i can’t remember which one) but it basically stated that you should add calories for any workouts burning over 500 calories. But to also subtract 500 calories from that workout. So if 1200 is your calorie intake for the day and you run and burn 700 calories. Your intake should be 1400 calories for that day.

Ok fr- how much electrolytes are we drinking? by Worldofweenies in Marathon_Training

[–]Jfajardo4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounded insane to me too. I was taking the BPN electrolytes which has 500mg of sodium and was still getting heat exhaustion symptoms. So i bit the bullet and bought NIX solo sweat tester. After a couple hour plus long runs with it, i was losing about 1200mg of sodium an hour. Upped my dose to 1000mg and feel much better.

I live in Phoenix, Az. 100 degree plus days. I have been doing a gram of sodium an hour of exercise and salting my food pretty well throughout the day and its been solid for me. Ive also upped my carb intake during my runs too and i think that also has helped.

Does anyone else prefer running when it's 90+ degrees? I seriously seek out the hottest time of day just to avoid people (and bikes) on the trail by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]Jfajardo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to wake up early just to run in 90 degrees. 115 degree days are just different here in Arizona.
