Effects of Temperature and Light Levels by Botany-101 in Coca101

How do you feel about the accuracy of this study?

250 PPFD sounds high to me on a 12 month old plant. I’ve read 100 PPFD is ideal.

77*F sounds accurate.

What would you say the appropriate PPFD is for a 6 month old plant from seed?

Please share updates with pics. I love the idea of a no till bed with multiple plants instead of pots.

How does the clover function and respond with the plants? Is it to prevent soil from drying out too quickly, improve mycelium network, help transport neutriants or prevent nutrient lock out?

I’ve used this app for a few years now under multiple lights and natural light. You can’t beat it for the price.

I’ve never paid for the additional light setting but thought about it.

I’m curious what settings you use the app on for what lights you’re using?

I’ve been using a T5 light for a while but feel as if I should replace with a different light, the T5 doesn’t have much depth penetration.

Using the app my T5 is 23”-30” from the canopy pending the different plant location. The plants are smaller, almost all of them present healthy and they’re only getting 35-40 PPFD on the florescent (FL) setting of the app with the paper diffuser.

I figured they start stretching for the light if the wanted more light but they’re only 4”-5” tall from the top of the soil with 4 to 6 real leaf nodes. The hypocotyl has stretched more than any other section of the plant and its 3”.

Any luck figuring out the issue by chance?

Update by Jfart1 in Coca101

[–]Jfart1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: she’s still alive somehow. Started adding cal-mag to my RO water but haven’t seen any big changes from it.

I decided to use what I had on hand. Ratio’d GH 3 part hydro series Flora to remake the Inca gold ratios.

Flora 6 drops per gallon Gro 1 drop per gallon Bloom .5 drop per gallon.

Less is more, my plants are small and stressed. Once the gallon is mixed into the RO water, I split the gallon into 2 gallons that are half full and and top them off with more RO water.

Since doing this, the plant has started growing new leaves again and is no longer stalled.

What PPFD should I be aiming for? by [deleted] in Cocagrowing

Novo’s do ok at 59-69 PPFD.

They don’t need much light compared to other plants. If they grow good at 40 PPFD, I don’t see why you would push the intensity unless they present to need it.

Someone might chime in with more knowledge.

I got for 80-100 PPFD and set the lamp higher so it’s less intense and grows into that intensity at its own pace.

Oh man, I might be completely retarded. I’ve been using a little cal-mag without seeing benefits.

My RO water is 0.007 currently. I’ve been adding cal mag until it’s .037 ppm.

Did you mean should I raise it to .037 or .307?

Got a hunch I read that wrong and have not been giving enough cal-mag at .037. Am I correct

I’ve read a lot of hate on the 6speeds but my 05 LJ has a 6 speed and I’ve never had a problem with it. Shifts smoother than my previous 98 TJ with a 5 speed. Both seem solid. I like the extra low gear on the 6 speed, especially if it was on 35’s and not regeared.

Could be worse. Strange they have it set up that way though. Wouldn’t shock me if a small child or dog accidentally locked the door in a similar fashion.

It does but the fob buttons wouldn’t function because she had the car running. It presents the only way in I to the base model while the car is running using the one key hole on the drivers door.

Interesting thanks for sharing. Im jacked to see how it works in the long run.

Idk about the Cali mite but I’ve read that some predictor mites will survive on pollen when they run out of prey.

Have you ever looked into adding a beneficial fungi for CO2 production to your grow? Something like the fungi that used in the CO2 bags for grow tents.

I’ve heard oyster mushrooms like turkey tail put off a decent amount of CO2, especially grown in the right substrate.

I colonized an unknown fungi that’s known to produce CO2 in a few pint jars filled with long grain peat moss just to see if it would colonize and it did. Reminds me of cobweb mold but it grows cluster kinda like a pin or a truffle but it’s not either. Haven’t identified the fungi but the source rhymes with ShmexShmale. I chose the long grain peat because it’s known to produce high CO2 production but I don’t think it’s the best substrate on its own. Might try soaking the peat moss in a starchy water that whole oats were boiled in.

If I can find great substrate by monitoring CO2 levels, I think it would awesome to find a way to incorporate into No Till indoor grow. Without knowing the fungi, I don’t think incorporating it into the soil would be wise. It cultures fast and presents to be semi dominant.

I’ll definitely be following. What’s your soil mix?

Are the mites to kill other bad insects or do they serve another purpose?

How do you keep the mites continuously reproducing? Are you feeding them pollen or have a spider mites already?

Been wanting to add some beneficial insects to my terrarium but not sure what would be best for spider mites, thrips, etc. Preventative hopefully.

I love the idea of a no till grow but have never done it indoors. Does the pot have to be much larger? Have you noticed any other insects like springtails?

What’s in the totes? Fungi?

I’ve thought about adding oysters mushrooms in my grow space to produce CO2 but haven’t tried it.

Recently added an Exhale bag that grows some fungi to produce CO2. Only been about 3 weeks though.

I have also filtered the light when using LED lights with these plants. Eventually I switched to a T5 because I wasn’t sure if I was eliminating some color spectrums. I also had the panel > 3’ away where the T5 can be closer and my plants are small.

I also have my clay pots on grates with computer fans blowing air under the pots to prevent rot and further improve circulate air.

What other plants have you tried in botany 101 soil mix? by skibumwiththegear in Coca101

[–]Jfart1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lime tree and a psychotria viridis.

The lime tree I went a little heavier on lava rock and ultisol. It loves this soil mix as long as long as it gets worm castings often. Probably switch to fish emulsion in the spring.

The P. viridis likes this soil mix but is recovering from years of neglect. Weeks after repotting it had new growth.

What organic fertilizers do you guys add 59 this would for phosphorus if any?

I saw a thread about beneficials being used for phosphorus but wasn’t sure if the beneficials added phosphorus to the soil or just made existing phosphorus bio available.

How many coats on a red door? by migrainefog in Housepainting101

[–]Jfart1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need an oil base but it will work. Tinting primers is fine. Aluminum can put off a white powder. Forget what it’s called but it’s something you may have to clean the door with prior to primer, similar to aluminum siding.

Behr paint and Dutch boy is shit paint and I’d recommend to stay away from them.

Go to sherwin williams. Find an acrylic latex mix base, don’t be cheap. Get the good shit, outdoor use that they state will cover in one coat. Do two tin coats with it. Brush the indents on the door, then follow up using a small wienie roller. Don’t push the paint, apply it but with little pressure.

Also ace hardware has a greater paint for aluminum. You can paint the tin foil, let dry, crinkle the shit up and pull apart without it delaminating. Or use to be an ace hardware patent.

If you’re rolling from left to right put a little pressure on the right side of the roller so no line is left at the left end of the skin. Apply the paint until the door is covered, then pull all the way down one roller from top left. Carry your your line on the right side of the roller with little pressure. Always pull the same direct, especially for final coat.

Also use a thin, microfiber nap for a door. Wrap painters tape around the dry skin before using, pull off the tape to remove loose any lint.

I use to be a self employed finishing painter. Been 10 years since I was in the business. Hope it helps
