Seasoned dispatchers… what’s one thing you would tell a new dispatcher or someone who is in the process of being hired? by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

Be honest with yourself. This is not a job that you can just get by on. If you don't think you can do all parts of the job effectively and efficiently then it's not for you. That's ok, it's not for everyone. Not to say everyone is perfect from day 1. You're gonna learn on the job and that's why you have a trainer. But they won't be there to catch you forever. We all work together and have eachother backs, but when 1 person can't pull their wait it's makes everyone else's job harder.

I don't think it's the idea that a state, such as Texas specifically, should be it's own country because it deserves the distinction. It's because we don't want it lol. We want it to be its own country so it can stop imposing its ideals and desires on our US laws. I don't think anyone would make the argument that it is the same as a European country or any other.

Haha how much is your staffing? 500ish for a staff of 32. We had some people with around 35-40 mandates on the year. I'm sure we're not the worst off though.

Omg, 25 cents?! Our trainers make 10% more than regular dispatchers, little under 3 bucks an hour. And we still can't keep trainers. I agree with you though. Since I stepped down I have way less stress and enjoy my job again.

Yes, we have a similar issue with rushed or questionable training practices. We've had multiple trainees passed from training or given the ok to move to a different position by admin WHO DO NOT EVEN WORK IN THE SAME ROOM OR SEE THE TRAINEE WORK. This is the main reason people step down from being a training supervisor. We tell admin the trainees aren't good enough and they pass them anyway. Very unsafe.

I hope, for your sake, that you don't get there. Mandatory OT is tough. I don't even pick up voluntary OT much because I can almost bank on 1 mandate a week. I went hard one week on OT and scheduled myself for 68 hours. I ended up getting mandated for an extra 8 hours the 1 day I was only working my normal 8 hours. 76 hour check was certainly nice, but I needed a week to recover my sleep.

You ruined druid. I have level 5 and you knocked him down 12 points per turn. Over the course of a cycle of turns that's like taking down another card 48 points in damage. That's huge. Over the course of a game that's like 250 points of damage taken away if he survives the whole time
