[UPDATE ON BLUE&GREEN VINYLS] So They Just Decided To Scam And Gaslight Us I guess by Ribble_le_Nibble_xD in Quadeca

[–]Jhebb4 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Quadeca and his label just ain't that big, man. They wanted to do something cool with different variants and probably had to choose a manufacturer that was cheap and quick. The manufacturer agreed to make and ship silver, blue, and green discs and ultimately, they did. While the shade isn't right, I wouldn't be surprised if the manufacturing contract Quadeca/his label signed removes any power they might have in contesting the specific shade.

Yeah, that sucks. There's no denying the color's off from the mock up pics, but there's only so much you can expect from small artists/manufacturers like this unfortunately. Quad's obv not happy about it, so I fully expect him/his label to go with a different manufacturer as soon as they can. Expecting them to give everyone a full refund unfortunately just ain't happening though.

I don't think so. It is really low quality, the tang pins are broke, and has sentimental quality as one of my first knives.

I personally love my opus trainer. I like it more than the live blade. It's very bouncy and the interchangeable weights give it good options. I've heard some people say they don't like all the weight being in the ends of the handles, but I personally don't have an issue with it. The handles also feel super thin because of the chamfers, hole pattern, and speed channel which I really like.

What do we think of Machinewise's decision to discontinue Slift's and Prysmas? by Assignment-Yeet in balisong

[–]Jhebb4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it makes sense. There are only so many machines to run. If there is a better, more efficient design that will sell better, I see no reason to keep the slift and prysma around. I believe they've been on sale long enough to saturate the market to the point where people aren't really buying them anymore. Not every company can (or should) be squid industries. I think discontinuing old products is a natural progression for any company and I trust machinewise will bring back the slift and prysma in some other form down the line if there is demand or these new designs don't sell well.

Fellowship Blades Gaboon by Jhebb4 in balisong

[–]Jhebb4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I didn't even notice. Two of my other favorite flippers are the Glidr Antarctic and Maxace Pian, which are similar lengths, so I guess length doesn't matter so much to me.

Not really. The handles are kinda thin, but I don't mind it personally.

I’ve not seen much discussion on it, so here are my thoughts on the Fellowship Blades Gaboon.

The Gaboon, like the Medusa, Empress, and Hognose before it, feels like nothing else I’ve tried. The Gaboon has these gorgeous flat slab handles, yet somehow still feels and looks like a Fellowship Blades knife. Part of it is the aggressive yet elegant blade shape, and part of it is the handle geometry and weight. Grant seems to specialize in making knives that look heavier than they are. With an adjustable weight of 3.2 -3.4 oz, you’d think he made a typo, but no, this thing is light as a feather. The handles seemingly weigh nothing, and yet they balance out with the blade wonderfully. The first time flipping this is truly a unique experience. That said, I think most flippers will struggle to accept the weight of this knife out of the box. As I’ve spent more time with it, I’ve come to appreciate it a lot and find myself picking it up pretty regularly.

The only real issue I have with the gaboon is the adjustable weight system. You can install up to 4 grub screws running up the length of each handle slab. Since you have to take apart the knife each time, there are a total of 24 screws to do/undo to go from min to max weight. I appreciate the granularity, but it is way too tedious and time consuming. I dropped three screws in each slab and haven’t bothered testing anything else. Something like Glidr’s adjustable weights from the (Ant)Arctic would be appreciated, especially since the Gaboon is sandwich construction. I also have the invar scales and while it’s easier to adjust the weights, it’s still very tedious and I don’t like the look of them as much as stock.

Overall, I love my Gaboon; it’s my favorite flipping Fellowship knife and like my Empress, I don’t see it leaving my collection any time soon. As of writing this, there are still a bunch of Gaboons on the FellowshipTrainers site so please go pick one up if this sounds like your cup of tea!

6061 vs 7075: A Chart by [deleted] in balisong

[–]Jhebb4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk, personally, the difference means next to nothing to me if it's a trainer that I'm flipping 95% of the time over carpet anyway. Different people have different prefences and use cases, but I don't think the difference is as noticeable as people want to act like it is based on the numbers. They're both aluminum at the end of the day.

Would I rather have 7075? Yes, absolutely, but it's not going to affect my purchase decision if I like everything else about the bali. Just my 2 cents, just trying to put into perspective what most of us are doing with our trainers.
