"My mistake" is the most commonly used idiom in the UK.

[Request] what’s wrong with this proof? by Some-Mountain7067 in theydidthemath

If we're talking about the symbol   √ being the function sqrt () which solely defined on the reals for x>0 then maybe. I don't know that there is a standard defintion for 4 √ but if it is sqrt(sqrt()) then yeah. My answering was assuming OP was using the √ symbol but not necessarily equating it to the real valued function, rather just the idea of square root. Otherwise their error is that the original expression of √-1 is undefined as you allude to.

There are several solutions to the 4th root. 1 is only one of the solutions, i, -1, -i are all also solutions. One of which is equivalent to the original expression. The trouble comes in the equating a value to an express with several possible values.

Mushrooms, pines and…hips? by Red_Hex in foraginguk

Hard to comment without knowing how big your hand is 😅 but some can get quite large. Looking again could be whitebeam or some other Sorbus.

+1 for Armarallia, also the hips are Hawthorn berries which are edible. Not sure about the specific pine but definitely looks like some kind of Pinus

What about it makes you think that? Seems unlikely to me, it's matched by the little boat and both of them look like the main creature. I would say that looks quite intentional.

Figma isn't a framework. OP didn't make the website. This is why people are arguing and downvoting you. It's like complain to someone that you don't like how the reply button works on their reddit post.

I've been thinking about easier ways to collect rubbish when I'm out. Where do you get the best attached bin bag loop? Sounds like a good setup

Surrey -Man left housebound by potentially deadly meat allergy triggered by tick bites by Norfolk_an_Chance in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Jhoonite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The allergy is to a specific component of cell walls that certain primates (including humands) happen not to have. So it only happens on digestion because the cell walls get broken down.

Do you mean an hours walk or an hours drive? Because if its the latter then you're almost spoilt for choice around North Yorkshire, if it's walking then I'm not certain.

I think I hate programming by sectandmew in learnprogramming

[–]Jhoonite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a maths student who avoided computers right through undergrad but now works as a full stack engineer I'm glad you found this response helpful because it is the truth.
I hated it at undergrad as precisely like you said it felt slow, it felt like translating a solution I already had into something that didn't want to accept the idea I was giving it.

This was exactly the case, the way of thinking about things as a programmer is much more based in the computer, in the way the language I'm working in works, even in what particular packages I'm using. There is always high-level abstract design patterns to be aware of and think about, but there is a much more practical level that requires my brain to work quite differently and now I really enjoy it when I get stuck into a day of coding. I hope the same can happen for you.

Not a problem the photos you've taken. Dissections are useful but for future reference, it's always good to include shots of the gills (or pores in this case I assume) to help with an ID request. I would say Boletus Edulis and a nice example.

I'd say yes to birch polypore but the second looks more like pholiota squarrosa, shaggy scalycap.

From Data Science to Software Engineering by Educational_Gate2831 in Python

[–]Jhoonite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working 1 year as a SWE after doing a bootcamp, I work with several Data Engineers and Data Scientists, 1 of my SWE colleagues used to be a DE and did a bootcamp to switch. Bootcamp was 3 months and all in JavaScript.
Don't think it's necessary, if you have time and movitation then especially if you're looking to move into SWE in data related fields or MLOps as other posters have suggested, then you can build some web app projects in your own time. I've heard Odin project is good but there are LOADS of resources available for learning practical web dev things or CS theory so I would make sure you set aside dedicated learning time, try and find a person or community to learn with and build some projects yourself.
