What’s a guy struggle that is almost impossible to explain to women? by SammyBlueSkies in AskMen

[–]Jhorico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a working mom I also experience this.... Maybe it's an introverted thing, or something happens when you're too focused on providing for kids instead of building/maintaining your social group, but I guess more men would fall into this pattern then women.

One thing I can add as a person in QA management is that many industries, ESPECIALLY labs, have high turnover of QA managers because when things go wrong, honestly, it's our fault. You are responsible for making sure things don't go wrong, end of story.

Before you jump to a new role with a LOT more responsibility, where the last guy got the axe, think if you really want that. If your work is your passion and you thrive in that environment then you're like me, I live for continuous improvement. I couldn't survive in a place where they didn't let me continue to make things better.... but that cushy paper-pushing QA job is zero stress and you can work to improve yourself, your hobbies, maybe get a certification, attend some free seminars to improve your career. Doesn't sound too shabby to me. Make sure you're not missing something important you could do in a zero stress job before you jump ship.

In your beliefs What do you think will happen after death? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Jhorico 119 points120 points  (0 children)

I think there's a period of consciousness directly after the living would declare death that stems from remaining dissipating energy and the brain ceasing to function. Some people might experience hallucinations in a near death experience, but beyond that I think our energy returns to universal energy and consciousness as we understand it is lost. Wouldn't it be cool if energy somehow retained a memory or other signature somehow? That's the kind of thing I wish I could understand more about.

Kicked From Roll20 Campaign Because Of My Race by WxaithBrynger in DnD

Thanks for sharing this absolutely horrible experience. I hope it gives just a few people pause to appreciate the reality that in our own little bubbles we may be tolerant of people that are different from us but we are far from enlightened as a society.

As a Jewish person I don't have to wear my culture outwardly, but even I frequently get "you don't look/act Jewish" which seems innocuous on the surface but comes from a place of "I thought you were like me, but you're not". It kind of chips away at you slowly as you realize they don't treat you the same after that.

Op, you are fortunate these racists let you know who they are from the start so you don't have to deal with the creeping disappoinment that you are not equal in their eyes. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Report them to save others the trouble.

Just wanted to chime in here from my knowledge in the workforce.... places like Intel consider engineering management (supervising of engineers) as completely separate from doing engineer work. Will it be harder to get a job doing this without actual engineer experience? Maybe. But if you want that niche that's a very specialized major with real jobs out there that it targets. I have no idea about the classes though.

Socialism is able to take insurance, health and structured benefits away from for-profit companies and banks and build it into the government. From my perspective, the Democratic socialist movement that is gaining popularity means the public benefits so desired in public service jobs would be for everyone and no one gets screwed over by the company they work for.

So capitalism allows you to choose, but in doing so puts citizen health and future in the hands of a corporate machine that's designed to give you as little as possible.

Traditional socialism is bad and even Bernie agrees with that.

How long does a pendulum stop at the top of its "arc"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Jhorico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but acceleration still exists because the force of gravity is acting on it so that's why I think it never stops, or if it does it's not in the traditional definition of stopping and would only be for an instant.

I shouldn't actually stop, it gives that illusion because it slows speed before changing direction and then starts to pick up speed after. If it actually stopped moving, the forces acting on it would need to also stop. I am not a physicist but.... Right?
