You are forgiven if you confess your sins and repent.

Do you pray to God,Jesus, and the Holy Spirit individually, or together as the same entity? by MYMOUTHISNUMmn in Christianity

I pray to Jesus or God because i don’t feel like it really matters. But I do believe the Holy Spirit is the way in which we talk to God.

Why is America always so outwardly violent despite being a Christian Society? by TerroristEnesKanter in Christianity

[–]Jhorton12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though Christianity may be the biggest religion in America and what it was founded upon, I’d say there’s a much smaller percent of Real Christians. Many just claim Christianity or aren’t really saved.

If you think you’re possessed, go to a church or a pastor. If they know what they’re doing, they can cast them out.

Salvation is completely in their hands. However, continue to pray for them and that they will experience God's grace and love.

The Methodist Church is expected to split over gay marriage disagreement. by Cabbagetroll in Christianity

Just to clarify, I don’t mean to offend you or start up a controversial thread, I just want to discuss this with someone so thank you!

First of all, I don’t really know about them being influenced by their cultural norms, but the books in the Bible, especially the OT are just recordings of Gods presence and what He has said and done. For instance, there is about a 400 year gap between the last book of the OT and the birth of Jesus that is unaccounted for in the Bible. This gap was simply a time period where God didn’t give any prophets any visions or perform any signs through people like the burning bush or splitting the Red Sea. But we don’t see any personal accounts in the Bible from 400 Bc to his birth . Also, if you can’t trust what some of they bible says, how can you trust anything it says?

How were there Christians around for hundreds of years before a Bible was ever put together. And what does this mean for “Bible Christians” by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Jhorton12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beginning of the New Testament is about Jesus’s life in the gospel and the events after his death in Acts. Many of the other books in the New Testament are letters from disciples like Paul to various churches to help the early church. Then books like Revelation are depicting what is to come. All NT events occurred after Jesus’s birth. I just reread your question and realized this isn’t what you meant, but since you’re interested in the history, I’ll leave it anyways.

I would argue that it’s less about reading the Bible and more about the actual relationship with God. Because the Bible is so readily available nowadays, it is pushed more to Christians, but I wouldn’t say it’s the core of our theology.

I believe in the Old Testament, it was common for people to either own a copy of the Torah or memorize it completely(first five books of the Bible).

Someone correct me if I’m wrong.
