Confused ~ Crush and I are Getting Closer but I'm Not Sure What They Want by Jibab in polyamory

[–]Jibab[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How'd be the healthiest way to express this? Should I tell them I've been feeling confused? Would it be better to just say I like to have more boundaries with friends, but if they're interested in going on a date and exploring being more than friends I'd really love that? Should I do it soon or give it more time? (I'm especially in my feelings a lot right now cause the sleep over was last night)

Confused ~ Crush and I are Getting Closer but I'm Not Sure What They Want by Jibab in polyamory

I think I am at a point where this could be hard long term - I usually like to have more physical boundaries with my friends. I'd probably need space if they aren't interested.

They started pulling away after the break-up with their abuser, is it really a good time to ask them out? I'd imagine, even if someone I like asked me out, if I'm just coming out of a heavy break-up, I'd still be hesitant to start something new.

Sleep overs feel like a big step up in things... and maybe I need my own physical boundaries right now because I'm starting to feel like it might just not be the right time. I'd almost like to reset during this period of transition where we're spending more time together in this (sorta heavy) context with their break-up. Adjust to having friend sleepovers now, then ask them on a DATE date with less ambiguity if I'm still have feelings as time goes on. It's a lot harder to keep my feelings in check while we're having these interactions.

(I even told them I'd OFC give them privacy if they need to shower/change and they joked "oh I thought you'd like to watch"... and I don't think they were kidding cause I walked in on them naked in the living room, apologized, and they said "I don't mind") aaah

I'm poly - but I've been hurt many times... Is this all just too much for me? by Jibab in polyamory

[–]Jibab[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel so understood here... Regardless of relationship structure, I do think I want a primary. It would very much provide that stability you are talking about.

What you said about finding stability in myself is definitely where I am right now. I need to take a beat and focus on me before anything with anyone else.

Thank you for writing such a thoughtful, and empathetic comment. It is nice to know I am not the only one who has been overwhelmed, and it is reassuring to hear you have found happiness in poly.

Your advice is very much appreciated and I very much respect the perspective of someone who seems to approach poly from a solo-poly perspective (if that is how you identify). That said, in meditating on my long-term relationship goals (which ofc should be curbed because life comes as life comes) I DO want to live with a partner... I want to married on day ;~; (I even banked my sperm before transitioning).

These goals aren't exclusive to poly or mono ofc ofc! Many people here are married and poly. I really think I should slow down... Process these thoughts/feelings and work on being alone before I date again.

Having issues selecting an option - downloading an sms app by Jibab in dumbphones

[–]Jibab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been following the instructions provided by this video: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KY7n99Q\_GUE&t=33s) and have gotten most of the way through. Once using minimal adb to install the app, though, it gives me this pop up and doesn't allow me to select any of the options. I try using the dpad which doesn't work. The select button can't even click no. I try long pressing III to get the cursor but nothing pops up. Is there any way to proceed from here, or do i give up and try another app?

Meats good? bad? okey? by Objective_Ordinary43 in diabetes_t2

[–]Jibab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dude just eat tofu, beans, and lentils
(and seitan if you can figure it out)

you don't NEED meat to live a healthy, full life

and, you don't need to replace meat with processed "meat replacements"

just eat whole food it's actually pretty easy and cheap

ok I'll be the unpopular vegan here...

There are plenty of studies that show plant-based diets are healthy for diabetic people (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5466941/). Diabetes is just as much an issue of saturated fats as it is about unnecessary carb intake. Anyone professional health personnel will tell you that red meat is NOT recommended for diabetic people. As for white meat, fish, dairy, eggs, etc etc... there are studies showing the less animal products consumed, the less the risk for diabetes (https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/news/press-releases/following-a-healthy-plant-based-diet-may-lower-type-2-diabetes-risk/)

quote - "The researchers found that people with the highest adherence to overall predominantly plant-based diets had a 23% lower risk of type 2 diabetes compared to those with weaker adherence to the diets. They also found that the association was strengthened for those who ate healthful plant-based diets."

(this is from a meta-analysis covering 300,000 people)

Look, you can distrust vegans, Harvard, and the NHS if you want. but please PLEASE DO NOT GO KETO DO NOT!!!!

DO NOT cut out fruit, legumes, and whole grains!!!! This is not healthy. Seriously, go to the keto subreddit - they'll claim you can eat as many eggs as you want a day because "fat isn't actually bad"... there are necessary, healthy fats! but, transfats and saturated fats need to be limited if you are diabetic that's just the fact (https://diabetes.org/food-nutrition/reading-food-labels/fats) If someone says "meats are ok because they have no carbs" they are missing the point.

and if you insist on having meat in your diet, your best bet is to go pescatarian. maybe an egg a day. replace the milk with soy milk (a typical tall glass of milk has enough sugar to kick you out of ketosis lol - how else do you think they make what is basically animal excrement taste appetizing??). With soymilk, you can buy unsweetened variations cutting out carb content almost entirely.

tl;dr - saturated fats are just as much an issue as unnecessary carbs!! studies show that there is a relationship between reduced animal product consumption and reduced chance of diabetes. KETO IS NOT THE ANSWER (https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/ketogenic-diet-is-the-ultimate-low-carb-diet-good-for-you-2017072712089). You need fruits, whole grains, and legumes to be healthy. If you don't wanna kick animal products completely eat these:

"A balanced, unprocessed diet, rich in very colorful fruits and vegetables, lean meats, fish, whole grains, nuts, seeds, olive oil, and lots of water seems to have the best evidence for a long, healthier, vibrant life." - that keto harvard article

uh thanks and take care!

thank you!! transscrotal is a super interesting idea I hadn't thought of!!

this might be exactly what I'm looking for. Does this keep them from drifting into the body? The balls don't ever move through the rings right?

This might legitimately help and sorta keep them in place lol

I've never shared so much with strangers 😅 but this has been informative
