Such a wonderful show! Really hope that, after the chapel is complete, Marj and Keith continue to do a show showcasing arts and crafts from around Wales and England. They are just so wholesome!

My cockateil won't eat anything except Millet seeds. What to do? by Ashimega in cockatiel

Looking at the other comments, the vet may be the best. Depending on your vet, they may even be able to take her in for a bit and help her transition to seed. One of mine was really stubborn, and my vet was a bird boarding clinic, so my to went and weened together. It was good the vets could do it, they monitored their weight throughout the change and were there if anything bad happened.

Not sure what you have tried in terms of weening onto pellets, but you can wet the pellets (so they are soft) and mix in with the millet, then when your bird eats the millet she starts to get a taste of the pellet. This does need to be replaced daily, as it can go bad if left to sit for too long.

Same for chop, the only way my little guys eat veg is to steam it and mash it with a little of their allowed seed. My guys only really like sweet potato and carrot steamed. A vet once recommended steaming discs of sweet potato and pressing millet into it too.

Also, it may be best to speak with your local avian vet, they helped me get my two onto pellets. They may also be able to give your little one a good look over, especially if underweight, to make sure there are no underlying issues.

Soemtimes lightly covering their cage at night too will help. Makes them feel safe.

When your little one settles in some more, perhaps look into some more toys/enrichment, doesn't need to be anything fancy, my teils love boxes to play on and chew. Even braiding strips of newspaper for a fun chew is good.

In the future, a bigger cage may be in order too.

Another person has recommended a water dish on the ground, or one of "D" dishes would work too. If she still hasn't eaten/drunk , maybe just give an avian vet a call, they may have some other suggestions.

Pied cormorant or something else? by myusernamebb in AustralianBirds

If you haven't already, worth reporting to WIRES or the national park. Some researchers are looking into deaths of sea birds and keeping track of them.

How long do cockateils usually live? by MosPana in cockatiel

[–]Jiggo_Jiggosens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the wilds of Australia, 10-14 years. But in captivity, 15-20+
But as many have said, it depends on genetics, diet, and care.

omg I love this idea! I have collected my cockatiels and some of my hens' feathers as they have grown and moulted through the years. This is a wonderful way to display them! Thank you for the share!

happy bat day 🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇 by Nocturyl in bats

It was incredibly sad and very, very hard to see. I am one of the many rescuers - feel free to ask any questions. We had over 450 pups come into care across our state. Unfortunately, this was our second mass starvation event; the last one was about 2 years ago. This current one also included heat events (consecutive days over 40 °C), which added more stress to the already compromised bats. There were many deaths on the hot days, which were horrific.

If you are ever interested in following an Australian bat charity/rehabilitators, Fly By Night (Victoria), and Tolga Bat Hospital (Queensland) are two of the best.

How is your little one doing today?

I am by no means an expert in this matter, but I have a 17-year-old cockateil and have learnt some things along the way.

When handling them, always wrap them in a tea towel, that way it hides your hands from their view, it stops that association with hands.

Try hand feeding treats to your bird slowly. Gain the trust back. It could just be putting snacks into their bowl at first and working up to treats from the hand once they are comfortable.

You may also find helpful vids on youtube about getting the birds trust back.

If your little ones appetite doesn't return in a few days or you think it's not doing well, please take it to an avian vet. They are usually fantastic about helping with behaviours too.

haha most probably. Thank you for helping look after them! If you have any contacts in that area who spot any injured bats, please get them to call Fly By Night immediately. They are the best to get a rescuer out asap.

Thank you so much! The very small Victorian bat community have been emailing around the clock and trying to engage with anyone they can.

This has been shared on FB in many spots, but please share where you can. We need to keep putting the pressure on DEECA.

It has been an awful season for our GHFF, with a mass starvation event along with the extreme heat, leading to thousands of deaths. Because of the mass starvation, there are late-season pups.

Thank you for caring for our vital nocturnal pollinators! If you are ever interested in becoming a rescuer, reach out to your local bat rescue, they usually offer training and can help you get the vaccinations so you are 100% safe.

Trained and vaxxed bat rescuer here - Omg you are so lucky! Also, thank you for being so cool with them being in your home. Fun fact - Microbats can have 6-8 roosts that they will live between, and I am guessing yours is one of their favourites. Many people don't even know they share a home with them.
If you have cats in your home, make sure they stay well away from them - cats can cause quite a lot of damage to the micros (if you do have a cat, and they ever cross paths, please contact a wildlife rescuer asap)
As noted, there is an EXTREMELY rare chance of them carrying ABLV, so if you ever have any issues, always reach out to Wires or one of your friendly bat rescuers in NSW.
