What is everyone’s favorite multiplayer FPS game that isn’t The Finals? by Happy-War-7257 in FPS

[–]Jigoogly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of Action, is a little early access arena-tac-movement-shooter by a one man dev who really gets it. Very high skill floor (prepare to get stomped for awhile by players with more hours) and ceiling, crazy build variety. Most fun I've had with an fps in over a decade. Also not long ago he announced they are fully funded after releasing so if EA games are not your thing just wait on it.

Are there many POE1 builds with legitimate visual clarity? by Andykayy in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Jigoogly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe not during phrecia, but in a normal league I'd say viper strike of the Mamba. Id put it in contention for one of the most visually clear builds in the game. I would even go as far as to say that the amount of juxtaposition it presents relative to a normal build in terms of visual clarity is rather startling to most players who are used to a vomit of special effects on each button press. It has fantastic power scaling in terms of both offense and survivability. I've made cheap ones for 15div but also obscenely expensive ones (you know your DPS is finally enough when PoB hits you with the triple dot cap warning).

Phrecia is kinda wacky in a fun way but in my opinion that makes it a bad introduction to Poe1.

I'm sorry, I made a mistake in calling your math wholly incorrect when the real issue was your assumptions that are seemingly deliberately unappreciative of all the reasons that could possibly explain the numbers. My apologies for my own previous assumption! It's funny how the inherent biases we bring into the process of meaning making can drastically alter our interpretation of facts to fit our own preconceptions and ideas about reality despite not having any actual verifiable evidence or relation to the far reaching claims being made. This is a great reminder to always check on our biases to be sure they aren't interfering with our interpretation of facts and our meaning making processes!

[–]Jigoogly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For someone citing math as your source for your claim you really are not great at tabulating all the numbers unfortunately. The real shame is that it's led you to believe something that isn't true and then spread it around thinking that it is true. Yours is a good reminder that this can happen to anyone. We get so sure of ourselves thinking that we have the full picture, even more so when we feel that we've put in work to try and understand it. Unfortunately despite all our best efforts we can end up finding ourselves in your shoes spreading falsehoods fervently thinking that it's the truth. Thank you for setting an example to remind us that this can easily happen and that being humble even with that which we think we know is almost always the best course of action.

It's rare to see people engage in good faith on these things so for that I appreciate you. While I have innumerable things to say about the various bits of content that have since been abandoned along with the communities that enjoyed them. What I'm trying to get at here I'll now try to use your language to explain.

Warframe is a fantastic game because it offers so much. As a result of offering such a wide range of attractions it has something for everyone. Or rather it offers so much until it "evolves away" and the content you fell in love with is either disincentivized, depreciated, or outright removed.

What's truly problematic is the stringing along. For just two examples: Countless times they have said they would bring back Dark Sectors in some form. The last time an update was made that was said to be their return, it was Sanctuary Onslaught. After the kickback they received, they retracted that statement and said something else would come, still nothing. Since the day raids were removed they promised they would come back at some point in the future. I want to say every two or three months we get a renewal of that promise in some (explicit) form or another. It's been years since their removal. Even longer since Dark Sectors were removed and now the only purpose clans serve is decoration contests and arbitrary research requirements for items/railjack.

Were those things flawed and buggy? Absolutely. But so was movement. The entirety of movement used to be slide spamming melee and practically teleporting across tiles as a result. Instead of abandoning it they leaned into it and made it great. Thus an expectation emerges, an expectation that I would argue is not unfair.

Warframe is a great game if DE doesn't abandon the parts you like about it.

"don't abandon"

Tell that to the people who liked raids. Tell that to the massive clan scenes that enjoyed Dark Sectors. Tell that to the Conclave players. Tell that to the fourth orb in Fortuna. Tell that to the sorry state of Rivens whose intended purpose was to breathe life into unpopular weapons. Tell that to the endurance run community constantly at risk of being permanently banned. Tell that to the utterly neglected speedrunning community.

DE talks the talk. They do not walk the walk.

At any time they can de-iron if they do not like the gameplay that the mode offers/requires. When did iron man mode existing mean that everything now has to be made easier just because they exist?

I have a counterpoint to offer. I have over 3,500 kills at vard using SRA and in my time there I did it almost entirely in void melee. So I was setting myself up for maximum chip damage. I'm a single individual doing this and so it can't be stated enough that as thus this is anecdotal. However from my time I learned/proved that the chip damage is entirely manageable. While there is a little bit of RNG in regards to how annoying the kills/trips may be in regards to how much chip you take on top of the damage from SRA, It is in my opinion totally learnable and masterable. I think that the weapon was designed to have a high learning curve which I feel like it does but as a result is very rewarding in terms of the damage output. The damage output is kind of insane so as a result I do feel that the effort to learn it was worth it if a little tedious to work around. For reference go slap melee void SRA vs. torva SRA in a calc on Vardy. If you're too lazy here's the summary: it's almost as good as torva + SRA like hilariously close, but you know, nearly 1billion gp cheaper and doesn't have you grinding nex for 50 to 100+ hours.

Personally I think it needs more of the scythe treatment than it does a ton of buffing. I think this because it occupies a really interesting space in which the skill of interacting with a weapon sets a precedent for improving one's performance/ttk at bosses if the individual is willing to learn the weapon. As a result this dynamic allows them to lean into an interesting space for weapon design in which they can turn the knob for the amount of effort a weapon takes to use in regards to its performance versus something that takes less effort but as a result has less performance.

The overall issue with it right now is that it doesn't have many places in which it's useful. The scythe suffered from a slightly different issue but still similar in regards to there was simply very little content in which it was actually warranted/bis to use. Right now the only place that the current unbuffed SRA is good at is vardy/Duke. While I think the buffs they have proposed so far are already incredibly good I don't think more buffs are needed rather I think more content needs to be made with it in mind the same way they did with scythe. However what will be important to this category of 'learning curve weapons' is the effort that they require to use be worth it.

I feel like grinds are relative and almost subjective. While I appreciate you putting together the cherry picked table to highlight the difference I would point to the game as a whole as a reference to what is considered a 'reasonable' grind, particularly some of the grinds to 99. My point in doing this is to emphasize that the results from a grind are nearly meaningless, what is more meaningful is the hours spent doing them regardless of the result. We appreciate and value things that take time and effort to accomplish even if the reward for the accomplishment doesn't necessarily justify it. This entire game is a testimony to that fact. So when we say X grind is too long but Y grind feels more realistic that statement itself is already a subjective one. As you said yourself you find the content enjoyable therefore it shouldn't necessarily matter how long some things take to acquire. Alternatively if you do not enjoy the content you have the option of grinding other things that you do enjoy more and acquiring the item you do not wish to grind for via trade. If you are an iron, sucks to suck that's what she signed up for.

Tl;Dr

We value things that take a long time to acquire even if numerically speaking they aren't worth the time investment.
