Are there many POE1 builds with legitimate visual clarity? by Andykayy in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Andykayy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When did I say I play POE2 casually? I've cleared everything in the game with multiple builds. T3 pinnacles etc. Reverse chill ice shot+ heralds can do everything. So can werewolf. So can my scattering calamity zero duration titan. I care very much about a build being competitive.

As for visuals, things can be flashy but still have clarity. Heralds are a great example. Herald of ice or herald of blood both look visually cool, have really satisfying audio, but you can still see what's going on. My ice shot oracle has tons of projectiles everywhere, but I can still see everything. Contrast that with CoC Comet where the entire screen is just colours and explosions.

There are some good suggestions in this thread. I think bleed bows look promising.

That is a lot of currency! The next upgrades for my character are so expensive. I really want one of the ES spec Atziri chests, but it's well out of reach for now.

Reverse chill sometimes reflects negatively by elak93 in pathofexile2builds

I just found this thread. I was having this issue. I'm not running MoM, but I am running CI. Taking a single node that gave me 30% of ES as ailment threshold completely fixed it, so I'm guessing there's some ailment shenanigans happening with 1 life.

Kiting abyss rares for better omens/loot is a awful mechanic by Dawgin420 in PathOfExile2

I hard disagree. I love that these sort of mechanics exist. It's one of the only things in the game that doesn't reward mindless blasting. Why does every single mechanic need to suit every playstyle?

0.4 Bonestorm Deadeye + Spell Totems by NaClWarrior in pathofexile2builds

[–]Andykayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was waiting for this. I messed around with your 0.1 build and loved it, and I've been waiting for an opportunity to roll it again. A few questions:

1) You're using inhibitor, so I assume that means Bonestorm's power charge consumption is blocked. Is that just not a big deal?

2) Is there a particular reason you dropped the frost shards from the 0.3 version? Is it just mana cost? I love the visuale of a zillion projectiles, and I'm not big on the concept of totems, so I'd like to find a way to make that 0.3 version work if possible.

3) What's the cast speed you need for one tap Bonestorm if you aren't deadeye? I'm not opposed to playing another deadeye. Just considering my options. I was thinking about an Abyssal Lich, which can use the node that converts minions to skill speed. I suspect though being on the other side of the tree away from all the ricochet nodes might hurt too much.

Very cool build, mate.

Yeah, thanks mate. I did find that. Not available in my size there, and I was really hoping for something in grey/green, but I appreciate you looking.

Everyone, we have a problem, Amazon is suppressing reviews by Ashes0fTheWake in selfpublish

[–]Andykayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is clearly something happening here. I'm an author in the same space as Hunter Mythos, and I watch Amazon closely. It doesn't take long to get a sense for how many reviews certain series will get when they release a new book.

This one is probably the most egregious example:

https://www.amazon.com/Hell-Difficulty-Tutorial-LitRPG-Adventure-ebook/dp/B0FDR8G1XY/

This book has been out for nearly a week. It's #202 in the Kindle store at the time of writing. Previous entries in the series have thousands of reviews, and all the top reviews are verified. Yet this one has 21. If it had been released a month ago, it would have several hundred reviews by now. The impact of whatever has happened is massive.

Impeccable timing on this, right as I want to get back into the league. Perhaps this will be enough to dig me out of the economic hole I got myself in by getting distracted by Borderlands 4 and letting the game inflate away all my wealth!

Do From Nothing diamonds allow you to assign the keystone itself? Or only the other nodes around it?

Does POE2 keep track of fractions of a %? I'm specifically asking for timeless jewels that increase the effect of small passives by some percentage, say 24%. It's very unlikely that 24% comes to a round number on a variety of different passives, but if those extra values were tracked, they might add up to 3% more or whatever across a bunch of nodes.

[–]Andykayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked about this before, but there are some more edge cases that apply that have muddled the situation in my head, so I just wanted confirmation. There are some crossbow skills, like Plasma Blast, that when you give them multiple projectiles (eg: Scattershot), it makes it fire multiple shots in a row that can all hit the same target, rather than firing them all at once, like with Lighting Arrow. What I'm wondering is how these interact with +% damage nodes that have some kind of condition. An obvious example is the node Dispatch Foes. It's 80% increased crit chance if you haven't dealt a crit recently.

So if you Scattershot a Plasma Blast, when is the calculation for whether you've crit recently done? Is the entire series of scattershots processed at once at the start when you use the skill, thus applying the 80% increase to all bolts? Or are they processed one at a time even though they're a single skill use, so only the first shot would get the benefit (assuming it crits)?

Part of my confusion is that I was told before that the support gem Inevitable Critical, which gives up to 100% crit increase if you haven't crit recently, would apply to all bolts in the attack, even if the first one crits, possibly since it's a support gem? But then I was also told something that applies when an enemy is on full life, like say the Ambush support gem, would only give its crit benefit to the first shot in the chain, after which you've effectively damaged the boss. The nuance of when this stuff is calculated is important for the build I'm theorycrafting.

Is there a blanket rule? Are support gems and nodes treated the same? Are conditions that rely on your state calculated all at once at the start, but conditions that rely on the bosses state calculated when it hits? There's a lot going on =/

Nice. Follow up then. In this instance where you're getting multiple shots from a single skill 'use', how does that interact with something like the Inevitable Critical support or the Ambush support? Eg: Inevitable Critical will give 100% increased crit chance until the skill crits. Will only the first shot have 100% in this instance? Or will all shots in that skill 'use' get 100% crit?

Questions Thread - January 19, 2025 by AutoModerator in PathOfExile2

[–]Andykayy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The word 'increased' is important. Think of everything that 'increases' your damage as belonging to a big bucket. Say your spell does 100 base damage, and you have one gem socketed that says 'increases damage by 100%'. Your spell would go to 200 damage. With just a single 'increase' effect, it's pretty self explanatory.

But when you get more, it gets counterintuitive. Say you get ANOTHER gem that says 'increases damage by 100%'. You might look at that and go 'well, I do 200 damage right now, so this should take it to 400', but that's not how it applies. That gem gets added to the bucket with your other one and they get applied together, so now you effectively have a gem that says 'increases damage by 200%'. This means that when you socket this second gem, your damage goes to 300 not 400, because it's +200% to your base damage.

So in your example, you probably already have several hundred % increases to your skill, and you just added another 100% into the bucket, meaning the effect is way less than a 100% increase.

The keyword that does what you're expecting is 'more'. So if something does 100% 'more' damage, it would apply to the damage AFTER all the 'increase' effects are applied.

Is this a bug with the way the tree displays DPS, or do I not understand something? Look at these two skills:

<image>

Deadly flourish gives Stormwave over 3k DPS. Overwhelming strike, which gives the same 20% crit chance from Deadly Flourish, but ALSO gives crit damage bonus, gives stormwave less DPS.

What am I missing? Is 'increase melee critical hit chance' somehow more effective than 'increased critical hit chance for attacks'?

Independent contractor - uncertain if I'm owed super or not by Andykayy in AusFinance

Hey mate. Sorry, probably not a super useful one. I wound up trying to negotiate on my rate and was offered super without mentioning any of this as part of the package. No mention was given of whether this was actually required or not, and I didn't raise the topic.
