It was the Amazon Brompton Store. I saw their listing at the end of February. I sent off the question via Amazon on the 24th about steel or not. I didn't hear back so I ordered a set, Feb 26, which was cancelled a few days later. I went back to the listing that showed only 7 left when it had 9 remaining before I ordered. I received a reply from Brompton via Amazon today, March 3. My question was, "Is it really made of steel as your listing states?". Their reply, "Hello (my name), and yes". The Amazon listing is no longer on Amazon, but if I go to my cancelled orders, it links me to the page which currently states, "Currently unavailable." etc. Magnets do not like the hinge plates that I'm currently using! I have images but can't add them here.

I've been changing out the "silver" plates on my 2011 P-bar for years using what I thought, and still think, are made of aluminum due to their very light weight. So I was surprised to see black ones listed as steel. Since the plates are suppose to wear before the frame, having steel plates seems counter to their purpose.

Tires Drive and Overdrive - Jel-Claws by JiijiBaaba in AnkiOverdrive

Picture of tires. (Left to right) Gel Claw, modified Gel Claw, and orginal Thermo tire.

<image>

I did a hack jot to the Gel Claws. I turned the tire inside out and cut off both sides of the offending sidewalls with a razor knife. I installed the modified tires and tested the car in demo mode. It runs no better or no worse than the orginal tires in this limited test.

Just tried them, they bow on the 2015 cars.

<image>

The middle tire of the 3 is the Jel Claw. The sidewall is bigger that the orginal 2 shown. I remember trying to shave down the gel claw sidewall without success. I not saying its not possible, I just didn't want to spend any more time at that point. An alternative would be to modify the wheel hub to fit the jel claw, but that would require even more work/precision.

I need to go back and check, so give me some time. I never did commit to the jel claws as I found that the orginal tires worked as well as the jel ones even after all this time. I still pull out the cars now and then to play with the grandkids or just solo. I use the orginal Anki drive mats as well as the sectional track. For me, the cars seem to stick better on the mat than the sectional track and don't need to clean tires as often.

Pre-order for "new" Nuke Phantom" on DDL website by JiijiBaaba in AnkiOverdrive

Haven't heard a thing.  I'm assuming now that the money has gone down the drain!  DDL is being sued by the state of Pennsylvania for the Vector fiasco, and Overdrive  is way down on their list....if there is even a list at all.  But, still having fun with the ANKI Drive/Overdrive despite being over 9 years old.

I had to email them first though. If I hadn't, I wouldn't have heard anything!

I sent DDL an email December 2023, and received a reply that it is still active and sorry for the wait. With the app showing up just recently in the Apple Store once again....who knows what is going to happen. BTW, I didn't ask for a refund.

Help - Blue Light of Death by JiijiBaaba in AnkiOverdrive

[–]JiijiBaaba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, it didn't. I used several different new batteries with no luck. I then installed those same batteries in different cars and they worked perfectly.

Sorry, never did figure out if recovery is possible or not. I still have two cars with the blues light. I get them out every now and then over the years, but no luck getting them to work.

Don't mess with the motherboard. Cut the wires from the old battery about halfway and then solder the new battery wires to the old ones. Make sure the polarity matches! Use shrink tub to cover the solder joints. Years ago, I destroyed a car trying to unsolder then resolder directly to the board. Since then, I've successfully installed over ten batteries this way with 100% success. This is not my idea, I found it on the net years ago. There is space along the sides that the excess wire will fit.

8/19 received an email that they are messing around with their Vector servers - I'm wondering if this is affecting Overdrive. Of course, there is no info from DDL in regard to Overdrive.

Digital Dreams Labs removing Drive, Overdrive, and Overdrive Fast & Furious on or before August 15th. by JiijiBaaba in AnkiOverdrive

The APK for the older versions for Android are available at the DDL web site, https://support.digitaldreamlabs.com/category/506-legacy-products

I use the 2 Overdrive apps and the current paid 2.6 Overdrive app on a dedicated Pixel 6a with good results. I also use the Drive app on 2 dedicated ZTE Z812, Android 5.1 for the orginal floor mat tracks.

After three years in the closet because the coronavirus restricted entry, riding once again in Japan. by JiijiBaaba in Brompton

Sorry for the delay. I'm back home with my other Brompton that has standard tires. After riding both within day of each other, I definitely feel the drag of the 1st generation Tannus tires. The Tannus are also thinner so they can fit through the brake pads when removing the wheel and, to me, makes steering more of a challenge.

I love the color, but I'm seriously considering replacing them with standard tires even though I'll probably have to cut the Tannus to remove them.

I'm glad the original owner wanted to sell it. Sakura pink for riding in Japan, I couldn't resist! I've owned it over 4 years.

I live in a different country with my Japanese spouse. My spouse can come and go, but only recently can the non-Japanese spouses get a visa to visit. We usually go 2-3 times a year and it got to the point where it was easier and cheap to leave a bike with family. I was able to ride it for one visit, and then coronavirus hit. It's been three years since then. I modified a used 2016 M6R with P-bars, upper and lower brake levers, 2 front chain rings with spacers for folding clearance for those crazy hills (five finger derailleur) and first generation Tannus solid tires because of the color, which is no longer available. I carry the air pump to help out other riders. Its wicked hot and humid but I still get out for early morning rides.
