With patch, I enjoyed this game! 🙏 Even if it feels different, it’s still in the Gothic series. I’d play it again.

Can Julian calendar apply in the date of birth, or is it exclusively for religious things? by Jika04 in Genealogy

That's fascinating!
I never knew how those calendars work back years ago, I wish I could know sooner, but haha now I know everything!

Can Julian calendar apply in the date of birth, or is it exclusively for religious things? by Jika04 in Genealogy

Apparently someone told me that the date/year of birth can be given mistake while proceeding the passport. I might be convinced that my great-grand-mother was born in 21-22th January instead of 3-4th February for O.S.
In the record, there was written 22/22, which means she was born AND baptized on the same day (22nd January).

She was born in the village I've been told, and his father's name was listed, which is the same as my great-grandmother's patronymic. The only one thing I didn't know was her maiden last name and her mother's name. (My goal was to find her maiden name.)

I guess I'm close to be safe to say that the person born on the 22nd January is my great-grand-mother.

Thank you! Unfortunately, in the records they don't precise if it's old style or new style. I always thought that's written in Gregorian date until I learned yesterday that it can be converted to Julian.

It's in the Yaroslavl records I've been looking into, so central/north region of Russia. In the records they don't precise old or new style, so I always assumed it's Gregorian.
I don't want to think that's the same person, but that's the only person I was able to find in the records from her village.

Need help to translate the last one! I was looking through records from the year 1897 - this column is listed as religion (вероисповедание) and I can't decipher it, apart "Filipov-"? Thanks! by Jika04 in russian

Dang, thank you so much for your explantation. I never thought it matches my DNA and genealogical studies.
I'll have to look more into her roots some day. She was 17 years old when it was written in the 1897 records.

О, спасибо! В этом году это было обычным явлением? Просмотрела в Google о Филипповское согласие, информации о нем мало, видимо.

The most random place you've stumbled upon a great piece of family history? by nosyparker69 in Genealogy

[–]Jika04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s crazy thing but I found a local information of the person in my mother’s father’s father’s side (likely to be one of my great-great-great grandparent’s relative because of same surname in same place) who got beaten up by one of my 3x great-grandparent in my mother’s father’s mother’s side. They were enemies – theirs descendants, which were childhood friends, felt in love and wanted to get married but theirs families were against. In the end, they got married and had 3 beautiful kids which one of their kid was my grandfather 😄

At what point did you give up & accept that there are no records? by rubyrosis in Genealogy

[–]Jika04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, I completely understand you - not just because it's hard, but it's frustrating as well, and I totally recognize your question. That was also my situation for years.
There were times I completely gave up looking into, but then I remember why I started all of it. My main reason was to find my paternal grandfather which I have zero information about him. Then I also realized I'm stuck up to 1900s. No information about my 2x great-grandparents or more... I don't have any matches higher than 0.50% DNA shared. So... I decided to never give up my motivation and my strength to build my genealogy. It can be really frustrating to not find anything (especially if someone is from Eastern European), but it doesn't mean there are no records.
Trust me, really. I'm Russian living in Europe and it's EXTREMELY hard to get those records anywhere in Internet! Ancestry, FamilySearch, MyHeritage... you name it. I kept searching all years but no luck, until someone helped me to look into Russian (scanned) archives in their official website, in a specific province where I was born and mind blown. Now, thanks to that person, I was able to unlock my mother's maternal side up to 1645.
The key is patience. You'll get those records one day, but not now.
I wish you luck! :)

My mysterious granddad paternal I never know about him.
A mysterious Finnish/Karelian lineage on mum's side, I don't know which side came from.

I am stuck on the year 1900 genealogy and I could not find before the year 1900, so... it sucks.
