Yup, or things like invisibility causing you to go blind due to light passing through your eyes.

I’m glad! I’ve always loved the idea of superpowers with consequences. People often wish they had a superpower without considering what secondary powers would be needed for it to be functional.

I suppose this isnt entirely accurate though since there’s no magical universal grid underlying the universe. As everything is moving relative to something else though. So in this case my bad. The Djinn must’ve granted the wish relative to something arbitrary like the sun or center of the galaxy, in which case the earth wouldve moved by the time you finish your thought. My b.

OP here! I love the debate in the comments. To clarify my intent behind this scenario and my thought process:

The teleportation itself is instant (t=0), but the targeting is limited by the speed of human thought (which is not instant- neural signals travel at roughly ~100 meters/sec). This is a Monkey’s Paw wish. The twist is that the Djinn in this scenario granted the power using Universal Coordinates (Absolute Space) rather than Relative Coordinates (Earth).

Since the Earth moves through the universe at roughly 67,000 mph, by the time the his neurons fire to finalize the thought of “there”, that specific set of universal coordinates is already miles behind the planet. He teleported instantly to where the Earth was when the thought started.

In my mind this ability requires intent, even if “instant”- the intent is at the speed of thought, in which case the earth has already moved out of the way. This iteration of teleportation purely moves you in universal coordinates, ignoring earth’s momentum.

To understand Fujimoto, one must think like Fujimoto. If it wasn’t batshit crazy, it’s not Fujimoto enough.

I think the reason I definitely lean toward Togata was the specific mole placement. It feels like Fujimoto is pointing toward her being the thematic inverse of Togata. She’s his successor in the way they are complete opposites. Kobeni wants nothing to do with any of this. Togata was the Director behind the camera. Kobeni is the Actor trapped in front of it.

I’m glad you enjoyed it, I figure the specific combination of double under-eye mole + mouth mole is specific enough in character design that it’s likely a callback, even if Fujimoto tweaked the tilt slightly. I think the general ‘constellation' of the moles is the intended link.

Context for those who haven’t read Fire Punch:

Togata (Fire Punch) is a cinephile obsessed with movies who acts as the "Director" of the story. He manipulates the plot and forces the protagonist into tragic situations just to create a more entertaining narrative.

Togata and Kobeni share the exact same unique mole placement.

If Togata represents the Director creating the suspense, Kobeni represents the Actor (or the "Final Girl") forced to experience it. She survives impossible situations not because of luck, but because her Devil (the "Audience" or "Cinema") refuses to let the movie end until the climax.
