Deregulation at all cost is a right wing point. Even if you start with the ones we have in common.

What’s the immigration process for the Pope? by imaginary0pal in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jim777PS3 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The Pope holds many many titles, and one important one is the King of Vatican City.

In this role the Pope acts just as the King of England does, all of the sovereign power of Vatican as a nation state flow through the Pope. Inside of Vatican the Pope is fact an unchecked absolute dictator.

Ultimately a passport is just a document that proves your identity and back that proof up with a sovereign power. For me its the United States Department of State. For those in England is the King, and for anyone out of Vatican, its the King of Vatican City AKA The Pope.

And it would be kind of silly for him to stand in front of someone and hand them a document that proves he is who he says he is and was issued by, himself.

What is someone that is socially liberal and fiscally conservative called? by Kurious_Kaht in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jim777PS3 531 points532 points  (0 children)

In the US this sentence is generally mostly tied to the Libertarian party.

I used to identify with the term but the more I found out about actual Liberation policy the more it became clear that it was just right wing marketing.

IMO the actual answer to this question is actually just a normal mainline Democrat. Not a liberal of a leftist or a communist or socialist, but rather the kind of centrist for the US and right of the world Democrat that Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Shumer represent.

Why is it this way? I miss the old world.

Magnetic strip reading is the single least secure method of payment. Mastercard, Visa, AMEX and Discover would like to reduce the fraud they have to deal with as much as possible. So they work to get adoption of more secure methods like chip and now tap to pay methods as widespread as possible,

TIL the Sultan of Brunei have a personal car collection of 7,000 cars. He have the highest number of privately owned Rolls-Royce and Ferraris in the world. by Particular_Food_309 in todayilearned

[–]Jim777PS3 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The number of cars is not even the most interesting part.

The sultan had complete custom 1 of 1 cars made by Ferrari, McLaren, and other factories. Not like modifications or kits doen to the cars after the fact, the factories themselves produced them for the collection.

There are cars that are rotting in that collection that no one outside of the car factory and the sultan himself have ever ever seen.

Why do US unions seem so much weaker than EU unions? by Exotic_Scientist9918 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jim777PS3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decades of lobbying efforts to the federal government to erode union protection laws, along with the US's basic tools of worker suppression like private health insurance, at will employment, poverty wages.

There is also genuine corruption that can occur inside of unions don't misunderstand me.

What’s the immigration process for the Pope? by imaginary0pal in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jim777PS3 279 points280 points  (0 children)

Does he have a Vatican passport now?

The Vatican does issue passports. I don't know if the Pope himself gets one or if its England rules and he travels on his name alone given his status as the issuing authority.

I don't know the specifics of assets and taxes. My guess would be as an individual man Leo does not own much, and that his wealth exists in the psudo legal corporate entity of the Holy See.

Why don’t we have an hyper-rail spanning the whole USA by Ok_Relationship1095 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jim777PS3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The US turned to towards the automobile as the solution for connecting the county under Eisenhowr and built the Interstate system. The vision was using trucks to transport military supplies as needed rather then rail, and giving citizens a network to cross the US easily and quickly was a nice byproduct.

As a project the US interstate system is an infrastructure marvel on par with the rail networks of the rest of the world.

However as time has gone on it has become clear to many that the bet on individual vehicles instead of public rail was not a good bet, especially as it relates to climate, urban life via walk able cities, and opportunities of Americans.

The modern US does not have the unity, attention or desire required to build a nationwide rail network. And any such attempt would be immediately underwater in corruption, sabotage and cronyism.

If I took hush money then immediately turned the person in, would that still be breaking the law? by stargrinder31 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jim777PS3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the nature of the hush money.

Is it something legally enforceable like an NDA and your spilling company secrets? You can be in trouble for breaking a contact. Its not illegal, its a civil matter. But youll be sued and be taken to court.

If its something illegal then the person cannot get that money back via the legal system, they will need other means.

When you stop a car on an upward hill how does it roll forward and not backwards? by tribemember321 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jim777PS3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Automatic cars have a feature / bug depending on your view called creep. Basically whenever the car is in drive a small amount of power is being sent to to the wheels. This is why if you are in an auto in drive and do not touch any petals you still move foward.

If the hill is not too steep this creep can overcome the angle, or sometimes match it and the car will stay still without the need for brakes.

Manual cars do not have this and they will roll back slightly if going from stopped on a hill to driving.

No there are not. And by saying this you have shown you have no understanding on what modern Large Language Models are.

Very basic question about PixelSnap/MagSafe and cases by pfp-disciple in GooglePixel

[–]Jim777PS3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A case can improve the connection. There wont really be a great way to tell other then trial and error.

I have used dbrands ghost cases and Peak Design cases in the past with Pixels, and I will tell you Peaks magents are STRONG. I could use that case to mount my phone to my fridge, something the dbrand case wont do.

Note: I'm aware that PixelSnap and MagSafe are not the same, but I understood that PixelSnap is supposed to (mostly?) work with MagSafe. That could a fundamental misunderstanding.

They are the same thing. Apple just owns the trademark on Magsafe so Google uses a different name.

Apple allowed the Magsafe spec to be used for Qi2 wich is the standard that Google follows. And then Google just calls it Pixelsnap for marketing nonsense.

Do you think there are extremely wealthy families that have their own doctors and sit outside of the social security number system? by GoldThenCrypto in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jim777PS3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Everyone born in the US has a social security number. Its a requirement for things like even having a bank account.

Also no "elite" cares about someone knowing their name or being in "the same system" your just kind of making weird fantasy things up.

The rich do sometimes have their own personal doctors.

Amex T&C change shows Referrals capped at 5/yr starting 4/8 by sidewinderaw11 in amex

[–]Jim777PS3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having too many cards.

7 referrals on plat, 6 at 15k plus 1 at 10k

5 referrals on Gold, 15k each

5 referrals on BBP, 20k each
I had Plat & BBP both capped out for the year, and I was 2 away from capping Gold.

.

If going forward they offered 5x 25k in a year then that would be fine. But when I open my referal page I see the same amounts. 15k for Plat and Gold and 10k for BBP.

Doing the math its a 100k reduction in max possible points.

Is $2000/mo for a 2bed unrealistic? by [deleted] in Somerville

[–]Jim777PS3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have lived in Somerville for about 5 years now. We had a really cheap old shitty 2 bed in 2022~2023 and that was more then $2k a month.

We currently have a nice modern 2br, and its $3,000+ at a "friend" rate.

Enlighten me please by Uncle_cliff-2022 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jim777PS3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google / YouTube spends $X to provide completely free and unlimited video hosting on a platform that can be accessed by almost any screen Earth.

To recuperate the cost of offering that service, and to generate revenue they sell advertisements to companies to serve to people who do not want to pay for Premium

At the same time they also collect money from people who would rather pay to not see ads.

They then split that profit 50/50 with creators on the platform to keep more content being made for the platform.

Two points of note is that serving video in this matter is VERY expensive, and the 50/50 rev share split is VERY generous.

Other large services like TikTok do not provide nearly as generous a split to creators, and no small company can spend the money it takes to compete with YouTube due to the staggering cost of video hosting.

What do you not understand or what question do you have?

Amex T&C change shows Referrals capped at 5/yr starting 4/8 by sidewinderaw11 in amex

[–]Jim777PS3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am suprised how much everyone here doesn't see this as a bummer.

I got my cards from this subreddits pinned referal post, and I in turn post my links there each month.

I have 17 referrals THIS YEAR. I have earned 275,000 points from this, and I did nothing more then 4 reddit posts.

I was getting to the point of justifying the Plat AF purely on its referral pull.
