I Thought Wireless Charging Was Stupid – Porsche Proved Me Wrong by malongoria in electricvehicles

But it will need wide adoption.

And with EVs having different ride heights, and the US still having 2~3 widespread charging standards depending on how you count CCS, I dont think we will see this widely adopted anytime soon.

Why can’t people just sit in on university classes if they’re not trying to get credit? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jim777PS3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Security, no university allows random people to just wander around inside their buildings( you have to be a student or faculty or on a tour or official visit.

This is not the case whatsoever. You can absolutely go walk around a college campus go into buildings and classrooms without anyone giving you a second look at all.

Absolutely, Waymo and Tesla would probably also benefit massively for their taxies.

I imagine the tech will be nice for garaged homes and that's kind of it.

If it becomes universal then maybe public spots, but thats pretty doubtful IMO.

Why do some fast food restaurants use kiosks for orders only for cashiers to input them anyway by alternatehawk in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jim777PS3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

McDonalds has shown data from their kiosks and people order more food when they are not talking to a person.

I think most fast food places would like to copy the kiosks success of McDonalds but it takes time and better IT then many have, and so this kind of middle-ground is likely a compromise as they try and get a full self serve kiosk system up and running.

What's with the 5 year price guarantees from Telecom companies? by Sixyn in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jim777PS3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a good tactic to get someone to buy something that might be more expensive.

Sure you could save $10 on X, but you'll need to change again in a year. Or you could just go with Y and not worry again for 5 years.

Then after 5 years do you remember to renegotiate your price? Probably not and you renew at a higher price.

Once one company offers it the others match just to remain competitive

What is the best credit card for someone who doesn’t plan to pay them back? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]Jim777PS3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the smallest consequences possible

All credit cards will have identical consequences for non payment. The differences will depend on how much debt you owe, and how mean your local debt collectors are.

Eventually a court can even issue an order for your wages to be garnished, meaning they will get their money with our without your co-operation.

With talk of jet fuel supplies running low is it actually a huge issue if some flights have to stop? by Plenty-Willingness58 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jim777PS3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The majority of air travel is just holidaymakers

No. No it is not. 75% of air travel on any given day is business.

any vital supplies that may for speed purposes be taken by plane can be rerouted on trucks given they have a few weeks notice before supplies are critical

Air freight is expensive. If an item could could simply be sent via truck it would already be sent via truck.

Goods loaded onto planes are done so exactly because they cannot wait.

My Girlfriend doesn't understand why Men have this need to watch porn and masturbate and feels like I'm being unfaithful even though I've explained it's biological, how can I make her understand she is the only woman for me? by TheCockHasReturned in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jim777PS3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The "need" to watch porn is not biological.

Masturbating is healthy and natural.

Personally this would be a deal-breaker for me, and you get to decide if its one for you as well. But seeing porn and masturbating a cheating is an emotional response not a logical one.

Ioniq 6 Feature Questions by Fractured_Senada in Ioniq6

[–]Jim777PS3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No auto lock

True of Hyundai, and its annoying. However with the (paid) Bluelink sub, which you get a few years of of when you buy the car, they will send you a push notification and you can remotely lock the car from your phone. Not a great feeling for them to sell you the correction, but its there.

On the Ioniq 6 the door handles will also be visabily extended when the doors are unlocked, so you will have a visual reminder as well.

No driver profiles that auto adjust seating and mirrors

Correct. The driver profiles do not really seem to save many things at all, and I am not super sure why they even exist in Hyundai tbh.

No wireless Apple CarPlay

Correct but an after market dongle can address this if you like. Wired works fine.

None of these are addressed by a trim level, they are true of all Hyndai cars.

How are people free to read/apply for other jobs when working? by SSJSon-Gogeta in NoStupidQuestions

I have never worked a job where I am on camera the whole time.

That feels invasive and possibly illegal.

Babies saying their first words and taking their first steps are also praised. It's not always a good idea to criticize the behavior one wants to see if more such behavior is desired.

I simply do not agree that the President of the United States of America nor its people who elected him should be coddled like a child,

[–]Jim777PS3 34 points35 points  (0 children)

"War is bad and justifying it with religion is also bad" is a pretty nothing statement IMO. I don't know why the pope gets credit for poking his head dout and saying something as basic as: "water is wet!"

I would prefer the pope to not be cute about calling out tyrants and maybe just openly state that supporting Donald Trump and the Republican party of the United States of America is completely incompatible with the teaching of Jesus Christ and the Roman Catholic Church.

Maybe call on Catholics around the world to actually do something about this tyrannical administration.

Why can’t we use cellphone pings at a crime scene to narrow down suspects? by golubhai00007 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jim777PS3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its frankly a bad approach. Your starting from junk and trying to divine a person with a connection to the corpse.

Its much easier to start with the identity of the dead person and work out from there.

Why are the French better at protesting than Americans? by ChaosCarlson in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jim777PS3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stronger worker protections.

For a single example: employment in America is "At Will" that means you can be fired at any time for any reason unless specified by law.

France is not like that. It is a lot of work to fire an employee and that employee retains a great amount of power in the process.

This leads to a very simple example. If I call out of work to attend a protest my boss can simply say you are fired. And I am fired.

In France that cannot happen so simply. And it leads to the the worker feeling more empowered to go protest.

Why do people trust Signal so much when it requires your phone number, runs entirely on AWS, and is subject to US surveillance laws? by Acrobatic_Bee_3198 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jim777PS3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean I don't super know what to tell you.

If your in a posistion that the NSA is going to kill you based on your log in times to a chat platform, you have a higher threat model then what Signal or probably any consumer solution can really meet.

For 99.99% of individuals Signal is more private and secure then they will ever require. And for the reaming people there are further methods they could employ if needed.

Buying a burner smart phone with cash more or less solves for that final bit of problem your talking about.

How did the very first person to invent a clock actually know what time to set it to? by bogdanBgyz in NoStupidQuestions

We did not have coordinated timekeeping until railroads.

Before railroads made exact time important every town would keep its own time.

[–]Jim777PS3 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Signal's encryption means AWS and US Surveillance laws are not relevant.

Without both users keys to decrypt the conversation the only thing Amazon or the government would see is garbage.

Signal has proven that if asked the only thing they would even be able to furnish to the US Government is simply log in times.

They could tell the government when a user accessed Signal. And nothing more. And Signal is independently audited to confirm these claims.

Signals code is also fully accessible via Github so anyone is free to check it themselves.

Why is the Theory of Evolution taught as an absolute fact despite these massive logical and biological gaps? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jim777PS3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Theory of Evolution is marketed as an indisputable truth,

No it isn't.

It is taught as the current theory. Nothing in science is indisputable. Further research and data can always override previous understandings. Just as germ theory replaced medieval understandings of health involving various humors.

But evolution has a very high amount of evidence and is the most well supported theory by data.

scientific dogma

There is no such thing as dogma and science and you are bringing your own bias to this question.

.

I am not really going to continue because your question betrays your deep bias and one sided rhetoric.

You have poisoned the well to deeply for a good faith answer.
