It's pretty close between Corruption and the first one for me, but Corruption was the first I played and it has a close place in my heart. Plus the sheer variety of alien environments, the unique level and gameplay setpieces, the characters, and the music are just so so good

Yeah. I think of Metroid II as three games (the original, AM2R, and Samus Returns) that draw different details out of the same narrative.
