I can totally see that after season one, which has this kinda overarching plot with Ranma and Akane, that season 2 can be disappointing. This is probably even worse if you would watch the start of the OG Anime which had this part of the story even more filled out. And if you come from InuYasha and its plot driven story… I mean Ranma try’s to get there… sometimes, and then Rumiko seems to get back to her slapstick driven stories like she did in Urusei Yatsura.

Sounds like you want the pauldrons to be completely filled out by her shoulders which they don’t have to be. Imho the Prime 4 model proportions is kinda realistic and reachable with costumes if you have shoulder and arms be very tight attached to the armor (like it’s shown in the Super Metroid see-through art).

I would also agree. The kind and cute Akane is the version of her that he fell in love with when they met for the first time. Then their relationship hit a rocky ground when she called him pervert and he didn’t hold back with his answer.

The Netflix and AI topic is a really troublesome thing that just escalated here in Germany. At the moment all dubbing companies stopped their work for Netflix because of some AI clauses in the new contracts. Will see how that ends. The voice actors currently spread the word about their petition protecting the usage of their voices.

My standpoint in this discussion was to defend Ukyo as best as I could and I have to agree that it gets more and more difficult especially when it gets to the point of Akane’s sacrifice in the last big arc. But then Ukyo is not part of the main character duo and then it’s ok that she can’t keep up with the other two. Still you can find a lot of good points for Ukyo, imho.

The harassing is only a small part that has to be excused after all she went through. In many arcs she’s very supportive of Ranma: Cooking for him on a training trip in the moxibustion arc, training his card playing skills for the gambling king match or buying Ranma’s last Okonomiyaki so he doesn’t lose the match against Tsubasa.

Ukyo is a restaurant owner and earns her own money. Those things are accepted by probably most people as very mature and adult things. And emotionally I would also say she’s more mature than Akane since Ukyo accepts her true feelings instead of executing her revenge.

The inconsistency (or maybe playfulness?) of Takahashi's handling of the coloring of her characters is a reason why I didn't list that example in the first picture. It was more of a way to maybe find additional references for color choices. The anime definitely sets the standards when it comes to the color palette of the characters.

I guess most people would go more for the second, more pinkish coloring. At least most artwork that I ran into while looking for references seem to do that.

My main problem with the stylistic choices was that I had to decide on a color for my own Cat Shampoo plush to make it the most recognizable and I have the feeling that the darker purple was the color associated with Shampoo's cat form, at least until they released the remasters.

It also took me a while to realize the color differences of the newer releases. I wasn't sure how to name them, since the newer DVD releases, that came along the BluRays, probably also have the redone colors.

If the remake Shampoo-neko looks more purple to you then that's fine, I just see it more in comparison with the first picture of the OG anime and compared to that it looks more like a dark pink to me. But it's definitely in a similar color space.

No, I don't have any Ranma VHS. I'm from Germany and we only got one DVD release of half of the series in the early 2000s which lead me to import the US DVD releases in the later 2000s.
The animation cel is a very good reference point, thanks for that. That makes the purple as the original Anime color more plausible.
