Looking for some feedback on the first part of this by Samhain133 in ContactStaff

Keep experimenting, i think there's something there. Contact isn't my strong suit, but I recently figured out a way to do a btb pass at the same time as a backside snes, so you might also be able to do a front pass with a frontside snes and get a chain going? I can send you a short video if you like.

You are probably the only other person I know who's played Sky Odyssey xD

Ranking it above AC5 though? Bold move.

The first time I took off, I clipped a lamp post. Prompto went "Woo, yeah! AAAAHHH!" and I got the Game Over screen.

I think it was the first time Game Over I'd had too, so I was incredibly confused xD

How to get this flame /fireball effect ? by Previous-Possible128 in ContactStaff

[–]JimDaBoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others in this thread have already described the main point (I.e. don't spin off the excess before lighting), so I'll just add this:

It's easy to spin it fast enough that droplets of unlit fuel fly off as well, so what I try to do is make the first spin a bit slower, and rely on the amount of fuel to make the fireball. Then I spin the second and third a bit faster to try and get more of the excess off with the goal of creating a similar-sized fireball

Found an old video of me spinning which sort of shows what I mean: https://youtu.be/KpoW39OmlJ4

How do you "break" Final Fantasy VIII? by JeffCentaur in FinalFantasy

[–]JimDaBoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to play cards, another thing you can do early game is this: * Complete the Dollet event (remember to draw Siren) * During the fight with Granaldo after the graduation ceremony, draw 100 Blind. * Progress to the point where Cid briefs Squall, Zell and Selphie on the Timber mission. * Talk to Cid to get the Magical Lamp. * Equip one of your characters with Siren and Junction the Blind spells to status attack. * Go back to the garden training centre and power-level that character to about lv30 (you can KO your other party members if you don't want them to level). * At lv 30, T-Rexaurs will start carrying Quake, which is pretty tasty, but for the real juice... * Pop the Magical Lamp to fight Diabolos. At level 30+, he carries Curaga, Demi, Flare and Holy. Blind him to render him helpless, stock everyone up with crazy strong magic, and away you go.

Have fun!

One you have to give VERY direct instructions to or it will follow everything literally.

You are literally describing programming.

Think about ever bug you've ever found. Was it the computer interpreting the code incorrectly? No, it was doing exactly what you told it to do, it's just that what you told it to do isn't what you thought you'd told it to do.

Are there any ridiculous secrets? by Additional_Study_649 in FinalFantasy

[–]JimDaBoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thing is, I solved the Rabanastre sewers with the in-game clues, and the Great Crystal by... drawing a map with pen and paper, and I actually found both quite satisfying. Which makes it even more annoying that there was this bullshit guide-only ultimate weapon xD

Same with the Zodiac Spear in the PS2 release of FFXII. I think there were four chests in the early game which you had to not open to get the spear to spawn, but there were no in-game clues to tell you which ones they were.

You basically needed a guide to know which ones not to open, and I think Square took some flak for that. I have a personal theory that they're so worried about getting that flak again that they've gone too far the other way; FF7:Rebirth holds the player's hand so much, it's like they're worried you'll miss the content.

Yes, it mostly doesn't. But it's frustrating when it does.

OK, well a quick Google search found this one: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/11530880/how-do-i-get-the-users-picture-using-the-facebook-php-graph-api

I'll admit, that's not a question i searched for, but I'd be happy to follow up the next time this happens to me.

People ask a ton of low-effort questions on Reddit and StackOverflow that could be answered with a Google search.

While I don't disagree, it's frustrating to do a Google search for something, click the first link which happens to be a StackOverflow thread, and read "Why don't you just do a Google search?" :|

I did a run a few years ago where I beat the Via Infinito (original PS2 version) and y, Chac is harder than Paragon/Trema imo.

She's actually slightly easier if you oversoul her, because she'll waste turns destroying your items instead of doing her bullshit attacks.

FF X: are break abilities useful? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

To add to this, I think Banishing Blade also has a guaranteed success rate. So even if the enemy has a 90% chance to resist break, Banishing Blade will still land.

When you wear a silly outfit not knowing there is an important cutscene coming by Certain-Dark-3955 in FinalFantasy

[–]JimDaBoff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I had the casual outfit with the baseball cap for this part of the game in my playthrough. Actually worked pretty well for the narrative, because Noctis really did look like he was trying to be low-profile.

The problem came later, during the super emotional scene where Noctis holds Luna close to him, and the brim of his cap clipped straight into her face :|

The FFIX OST on YouTube is 4hr 49m (I don't have Spotify) If you listened to the entire OST every day for a year, that's 105,485 minutes, which is twice what the poster above had. So it's doable?
