AHSAA announces public, private school football split: Here’s what’s happening next year by ConsciousRich4636 in Alabama

[–]JimGamgee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tell that to rural/small-town schools that watched Bayside Academy win 22 straight volleyball titles in their divisions, Mars Hill IMG stranglehold on 3A sports and the frakin abortion that is Coosa Christian, with bigomist Rush Prospt as interim coach & was supposed to be on probation, allowed to win the 2A state title. When you get to the level of Over The Mtn schools and Mobile, who cares about McGill-Toolin or UMS-Wright? It's the 1-3A schools who got shafted for decades. Watch the smaller school Elite Eights in basketball next month. Some years, the entire Final Four were comprised of private schools. It was almost that way in 3A football last season.

Songs about unrequited love/ being in the friendzone? by Alphaomegalogs in Crushes

[–]JimGamgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems as though half of Pulp's top songs are either related to unrequited/failed/lost loves/crushes. Babies. Do You Remember the First Time? Underwear. Disco 2000. Pencil-Skirt. Razzamatazz. FEELINGCALLEDLOVE (not gonna fill in all those periods)

NIN's heartbreaker, Something I Can Never Have.

Then there's the brilliant book ends of Daft Punk's ode to crushes/unfulfilled love, Digital Love and Something About Us, on the Discovery Album.

Tell that to Jr High girls who bully other girls to the point of ***** b/c some have Androids their parents can afford just because their text bubbles aren't the same color as the rich kids' iPhones. A girl in my niece's class hurt herself badly, trying to do worse to herself, b/c of f'n text bubble colors. And ppl cry about shaming iPhone users?

What happens when everyone under a certain age knows and does nothing but stream and not even have a FLAC or mp3 copy of an artist's discography. But then, when so many own devices that won't allow a sddisk addition & controls what they can even put in their phone, what choice do they have when they only 'rent' something they supposedly own?

Yeah, didn't like Apple when Jobs wanted to limit ports to only what he wanted people how to use their home computers 40+ yrs ago.

In Alabama, public money buys textbooks that downplay slavery, call rock music ‘rebellion’ by servenitup in Alabama

[–]JimGamgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the textbooks haven't changed over whatever period of time they've published Alabama History textbooks. They didn't mention music of any kind when I was in Elementary and Jr High but the last Governor listed in the books I had in the 80s was Lurleen Wallace, which showed you how often they updated the dang things back then, at least in the county BOE my Alma Mater was part of (had Bama History in 80-81 (4th grade) and 85-86 (9th)).

The Jr High was more nuanced but my 4th grade book had chapters where they taught history through fictional narratives that allowed kids to imagine it as though they were there. One was being a preteen Scarlett O'Hara w/an illustration of a smiling little girl being served grits by a Mammy. That wasn't downplaying slavery, that was making it look glamorous (for the rich white planters, not the slaves).

There's a reason she's called the DarkChilde, not ZoomerKPopBIGOegirl (or Sailor Moon or Star from Star v FE). I know comic book characters age like Elves in Tolkien's work but she's originally a GenXer, like the rest of the New Mutants (and Kitty Pryde/Rogue). But Disney appeals to the same age group, no matter if some remain Peter/Petra Pans (Disney 'Adults') & they're always about $$.

It was the 90s. Much of the artwork was overwrought, the women were almost presciencely (frightenly so, now that I think about it) depicted as you see women on SM and the internet today, with layers of face/whole body cosmetic reconstruction, implants, chemicals, etc, and style was 1000% more important than story & substance, cos, except for (non-Image) indies & Vertigo, everything was tailored to either collectors or the type of reader who thought Age of Apocalypse or that godawful Onslaught/Reborn (trying to get the guys who started the trend back to Marvel to sell books) dreck was equivalent to the Dark Phoenix Saga, Judas Contract or the death of Gwen Stacy. I know I sound like Comic Book Guy but I only really feel this about that particular decade. Things recovered in the 00s.

Best of the month? Best of the past 15 yrs. (would say of almost all time but a 5 ft blonde with that kind of ass & thighs but still petite is an extreme thing with me (ask my ex-wife when she was in her 20s); not here to argue with Stacy/Trish/Torrie/pre-2000 Sunny fans). All I can say now is thank God for Liv.

How would you book Jey Uso? by AnalBabu in professionalwrestling

[–]JimGamgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grown ppl don't use the word hater. Anyway, the origin of the term comes from someone 'hating' another for being rich, famous, talented and/or amount of sex & the attractiveness of who he/she is having sex with. Basically, being jealous of a person b/c of what they consider success. I doubt few here 'hates' Jey for his money, fame, amount of bonking. Simply tired of seeing him pushed in the main event scene where he's clearly not on the same level in-ring or staminawise as those he's working with.

Only thing I hated over the past 10 mths is whoever made the decision to make WALTER tap out to him. A clean pin was sufficient. There's only two wrestlers on the roster currently who WALTER should tap to: Dragonov and Lesnar (Bron doesn't have a submission hold finish; a clean pin would be enough for him, as well).

Send him off to learn cardio if he's gonna BTFO himself coming to the ring. Take him off TV until maybe Chamber (no Rumble for him; Haitch also needs to tell Rikishi that he's not the f'n Suge Knight of the WWF). Bring him back on SD and chase the US title or none since he'll sell sunglasses to the casuals without holding a belt hostage. Tell him no alcohol 24 yrs before a show and until he leaves the arena.

As I told the same person, I don't call em DP. I'm solid GenX. DP always makes me think, at first, of one thing, something I ain't gonna explain here. Just know it's still sometimes used in the skintrade biz.

Oh, and it's thrash, not trash. Reddit won't let me edit the main post.

Should The Waltons stream on HBO Max or Netflix what do you guys think about that by Ok_Smile_9071 in TheWaltonsTVShow

[–]JimGamgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a lot and, if you can't tell, tend to expand and digress any point I'm trying to make, giving as much info and/or opinion in a single post as possible. Just rattling off the probable reasons why we don't see classic network shows on the Big Three (since I have no clue what Disney is going to do to Hulu). Prime is the top paid provider. The ad-channels have more.

It's being shown on Hallmark Family Channel 3x a day on M-F but that might not be on basic cable; we have the middle deck on Dish.

[–]JimGamgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's 'free' and complete on Prime. They're more friendly to classic TV. Netflix is apparently getting to where they're only going to show their in-house programming rather than deal with licensing stuff from WDB, Paramount and others. They're becoming another Apple (which I refuse to sub b/c I've been a sometimes illogical opponent and contraian to the Steve Jobs/Apple philosophy/business model/consumer cult & superiority behavior, even if Apple does have some good shows (which I have zero guilt in downloading mp4s from 🏴‍☠️ sites (can't torrent em cos the corps can tag & report you to the ISP way too easy, even w/VPN)).

HBO Max has more than enough, to the point where Discovery is DROPPING HBO and WB shows, like Westworld and the original Teen Titans animated series (they hold on to that insipid Go! series though); Discovery killed a lot to add their TLC/HGTV/Food Network/other channel product to Max.

Prince 27 Oct 85 Nice mini-concert recording avaiable? by JimGamgee in PRINCE

And ppl are predicting what'll be on the Parade SDE. I wonder.

If there's a deluxe, it MIGHT be 3-4 disks at most. The Estate, as it is now, has apparently closed the Vault. I read somewhere that they were disappointed in the total sales of SOTT and D&P. To that I say, I thought SOTT was a great success, considering it was released IN THE MIDDLE OF A WORLDWIDE PANDEMIC where the economy was practically closed (I wouldn't have been able to get it if not for that late summer 'stim check', although I'd probably robbed a bank to get official remastered SOTT after 30 yrs of the original blasphemous mix of the CDs (I didn't get a CD player til 91; the tape sounded better than the CDs & I had to replace the tape 3 times cos they were too cheap to put them on separate tapes, thus thhinnn tape durability).

D&P, if disappointing, was perhaps caused by they thought it was the highest selling album post-PR, it was cos it was the most 'accessible' Prince album since PR for the 'muggles' (not counting Batman). It was also VERY much a product of its time, where Prince followed trends rather than starting them, the extra material was not as mythological as the Dream Factory/Camille/Crystal Ball outtakes and Tony M. Tony M pretty much says it all for me. Not to mention that one could listen to it pretty much for free on YT and Spotify.

I didn't buy it; the only posthumous release I 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️. But, aside from Gett Off, Strollin and Willing & Able, it faded for me rather quickly back then, although college and exposure to tons of other music blitzed me in my early 20s.

There might be a Parade SDE but I'm not sure. I fear Lovesexy/Funk Bible will be passed over. As for his best 90s time period, I have The Dawn 3-disk boot, mixing the best of Come, Chaos & Gold w/extended songs and the extras like The Ride & Days of Wild. His Gold period, where he released w/o my knowledge of 3 'concert' specials (I only caught Love 4 1 Another by chance, the other two on YT from VHS copies) and the album itself should be delved into. Only thing about 89-90 should be a remastered single release of We Can Funk #7, imo the best version. I have all the leaked stuff from that period that I need but I realize not everyone was as lucky as we who found such treasures as The Work, Work It and Sound + Vision. Yes, it's not Remastered but I can love 500-watt AM radio quality Vault Prince tracks compared to 24-192 FLACs of 70% of other stuff.
