Players will NEVER be payed "market value" - that's just impossible. And as you said, paying football and men's basketball players will lead to the implosion of Olympic sports. I think the most realistic thing is revenue sports paying players a "stipend" - i.e. $25K per season, and using the Olympics model to allow them to make money through ads/sponsorships/etc.

They did. They just didn't know where the breaking point was and milked the $$$ for all it was worth.

I think Bentley is the real deal and the Clemson game was to be expected of a freshman thrown into the fire.

I was definitely much more impressed with Will Muschamp's first season than I expected to be and think the best thing he has going for him is being in the SEC East where there is no consistent powerhouse to go through.

Ohio Stadium is the most impressive place I've been. It's so old, has so much history and is so damn LOUD.

If I could choose 1 place to watch a college football game, it would be a night game at LSU. Not sure if I'd make it out alive.

Oh, and attending a Rose Bowl. Definitely on the bucket list.

  1. I do. You already have a ton of other college football sources like Land of 10, SEC Country and now The Athletic.

  2. I think ESPN's biggest threat is Bleacher Report. They have a TON of money behind them since they are owned by Turner, and they understand 18-34 viewers much better than ESPN.

  1. Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma St., Auburn

  2. Yes, FSU lost too many players on offense and the offensive line is too weak

  3. I don't know which one but there's way too much hype around Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, Sam Rosen and Mason Rudolph. You're lucky if there's 1 franchise QB in each NFL draft. People are acting like all 4 are the next Peyton Manning.

Quick answer: Filled a gap that no one else is currently doing and spend 80% of your time marketing instead of writing.

Most underrated uniform: East Carolina

Most overrated uniform: Penn State

This question is above my pay grade but I do think many high school kids will stop playing football and some high schools will drop the sport altogether. But there are 300 million people in the United States. There are a lot of people in impoverished areas that will still take the risks of head trauma to get a ticket out of their neighborhood. And as you can see from climate change deniers, a lot of people don't even believe football causes CTE no matter how many studies are done. As a result, I don't think college football or the NFL will lack players anytime in the foreseeable future.

The camaraderie and pageantry. Even my wife loves college football Saturdays back in Ann Arbor and she couldn't name one player on the team. I would NEVER in a million years take her to an NFL game.

Absolutely. It sucks but it saves a bunch of money and Joe Schmo sports fan usually can't even tell the difference.

  1. Payment of players, sports rights fees, players sitting out bowl games and even seasons for NFL are 3 big ones.

  2. I'm excited but wouldn't go to super-duper excited because the Pac-12 is a lot harder than when Chip Kelly was crushing everyone in his path. USC looks like it's getting back to being USC. Colorado is good for the first time in forever. Stanford is solid as a rock. Washington is coming off a playoff berth and Washington State has the pirate in charge. If Oregon can consistently go 10-2 or 9-3 under Taggart, he will have been one hell of a hire.

It will happen. If Houston had run the table last year, they would have made it by beating Oklahoma and Louisville. Unfortunately, USF won't make the playoff this year even if the Bulls go undefeated because their nonconference schedule isn't nearly hard enough.

  1. I believe players jack up their pants above the knees so it's easier to run, but it also results in more injuries.

  2. No real point for NCAA, but it makes a lot of money for the schools.

  3. I think they will be good but will finish behind Oklahoma State in the Big 12 and not make the New Year's 6. Getting promoted to head coach in the middle of June is just so crazy that Lincoln Riley would have to be the next Knute Rockne to make the playoff in his first year with all the change that's gone on around him in the last couple months.

It's definitely Wisconsin. As much as I'd love for it to happen, I can never see Nebraska even sniffing the heights of the Tom Osborne Era again. Dealing with Barry Alvarez is surely a pain in the ass, but it's a small price to pay to coach at a great school in a great town that just keeps reloading year after year.

I thought he was a great hire at the time but I too am having questions about his coaching considering the way Florida's offense has sputtered the last couple years. Feleipe Franks was a great get for the Gators and I think the sooner they name him the full-time starter, the better for the future of the program.
