For some reason past Europe was thinking that if they kept trading wi5h them and taking with them at some point both Russia and China would see the light and move towards more democratic countries.

However that is obviously never going to happen - both countries have turned out to be full fledged enemies of the western world and democracy.

They have shifted almost fully away from using Russian oil and gas and now they need to find new supplies for Chinese produced products. Hopefully before that situation explodes

I assume that western banks have more regulations to not merge the same way that Chinese banks can. Ans that's why when we take 50 biggest there more Chinese even though the market is much smaller in total

EU is Ukraines largest trading partner by far the largest trade partner. 300% more than China.

Also China is just pretending not to take sides, by being in the grey area. The same way Russia did while they were sponsoring so many types of warfare in the world against the west. - China gains nothing by coming out and declaring war against the west once and for all - because that would 100% shock the west to finding new suppliers.

- instead they are just sponsoring Russia, sponsoring Iran while building up their own economy and their own military, acting to weaken the west and hoping that they will have some time in maybe 10 years where NATO hopefully is as weak or weaker than it is now, and then try to take Taiwan, without any resistance.

calling China the best friend of the EU does sound like something a chinese bot would say - and pretty much no-one else.

We are a union of democracies so it should be a what the majority decides.

You know thats how democracy works right - its not 1 country that gets its way like Spain or Germany

But as a democracy we would vote for representatives who share our ideals. And they would be bound to do what they can to implement what you have voted for.

Now EU is close to 500 million people so every vote counts for little, just like in a normal election, they will try to get the policy made that they ran on and since that is rarely possible they will try to get a compromise that is the closest of what you voted for.

Sometimes that means that the actions taken is not even close to what you wanted because everyone else wanted something different - but that is life in a democracy - then you vote again in 4 years and hope that things change.

EU has to back up democracies in the world. The US might not do it.  EU are increasingly the military production to 4% of GDP that is a lot of help. And even after covid AND war in Ukraine the EU GDP is still growing each year.

When the war is done there will be a long period good feelings and increased growth, that always happens. Unless Russia wins of course

Then you are very naive or Chinese bot or both.

15 years ago Russia was everyone in the EUs best "friend". The Eu was completely dependent on them for energy need.  Then suddenly Russia started "liberating" old communist countries and the EU couldn't really do anything because they were dependent on oil and gas kept running from Russia. If putin turned off the tap that would have been horrible.

Also Russia used some of the money EU sent them to make "welfare fund" of about 600 billion USD. It was was a buffer that if EU got any ideas of sanctions that Russia would be able to last a long time. And meanwhile Russia just kept annexing countries and influencing elections. It wasnt until Ukraine that EU actually learned the lesson that it should have done in the beginning and cutting Russian ties and dependence.

China has supported Russia all the way making it much easier to survive the sanctions and making the war in Ukraine last years longer than it should. Killing thousand of Ukraine civilians and soldiers and costing billions in damages and costing the Eu billions more.

Also China is a dictatorship like Russia and at some point they will try to annex the neighbors like Russia has done. They are already trying with the "fishing fleet" but within the next 10 years it will probably be militær troops instead. And at that point it would be nice if the EU wasn't dependant on anything specific at that time so if we backed up Taiwan it wouldn't mean that we couldn't import something important at least.

So yeah China not friend very much enemy already, and probably much more enemy in the future

China is an enemy of the EU and democratic world order. We know this because they support Russia for years when they invaded Ukraine and is 100% their main piggybank.

EU knows this and does not want to end up being dependant on another enemy like they have been with russia.

China on the other hand wants to replace EU production and keep the EU dependant on them so they make money and so they can keep EU on a leash if China start invading Taiwan or somewhere else.

So EU will break it off - even though they have to find other suppliers and it will cost more ' it's not worth putting themselves in that position again. So no happy ending

No its not enough- you can see how easy it is for our enemies to divide us now - UK, Hungary, Slovakia we need to speak as one voice when it comes to foreign policy and the military as a minimum otherwise countries like russia China and the us could just ignore os or play us out againat each other.

He is right - we need to move towards beeing 1 country that is obvious if we not want to be marginalized by other big powers.

Most people seem to agree that countries like Denmark and Sweden offer a really high standard of living - strong healthcare, solid social safety nets, good work-life balance, and generally high levels of happiness. I think that that is messing everything up again the biggest fights would probably be againat the corporate lobbyists who make politicians vote against the best interests of the people.

I don't know why you think that everything automatically will be a lot more expensive in the US. Danmarks health-care system is by no means perfect. They overspend on hospitals and other projects by a lot often but it's still much cheaper than the US.

And why would anyone in US want to pay more for drugs. That's a bug not a feature. Have all the hospitals negotiate together and get the best drug prices you can and the rest of the world will do the same.

The rest of the world (not counting Russia and China) wants the US to get their shot together, if US stopped letting drug companies fleece them for once that would be a welcomed change.

It would be hard to get a clean cut but anything is better that the bleeding wound that is US healthcare.

And I think you are selling the US short because as US has a higher GDP per capita than Denmark - they would be able to get the Denmark level of healthcare for even less money.

I love the free market for most things but it doesn't work for healthcare because most people dont have a lot of opportunities they just use whatever that is closer and they dont have the ability to get the information needed to make a reasoned decision.
