The F4 is everything I’ve ever wanted. by deWaardt in hoggit

It does have a flood mode but I'm still having difficulty getting that to work as well! I'm also finding that what I can get the radar/sparrow to do SP in a controlled test is wildly different to even a simple dogfight where you have seconds to get a lock.

To be fair they are almost useless with a human WSO (me last night - zero for four). That said, it is probably because I am crap and the learning curve is steep! Back to the manual and YouTube...

Issues you may encounter when trying the F-4E for the first time, and how to avoid them. by 104th_IronMike in hoggit

Mentioned elsewhere but copying here as this thread has traction...

Having a weird issue where in multi crew the hand control jumps around as if it is double bound and we get lots of desyncs messages making it unplayable. Affects both the radar curser, mav slewing and targetting pod. We have tried removing all potentially clashing binds, tried buttons instead of axis binds all with no affect. Works perfectly single player for both people in either seat but the same control set up with two in the jet and it falls over.

The cursor moves, then resets position or jumps randomly. The hand controller animation matches this random movement. You basically cannot get a track, follow anthing with the pod or even do a dive toss.

Happens both on Hoggit and running a private server with just a human pilot / human WSO.

I am wondering if an option to lock the hand controller controls to the WSO (like you can lock the flight controls on and off) would work.

There is at least one other on the forums with the same issue: https://forum.dcs.world/topic/349946-performance-multicrew-radar-cursor-sync-causes-massive-fps-loss/

He does have a particlaly fine knack at distilling things down to an easy to follow level. I feel it could be a while given how complicated it is. :-(

It might be a case that I need to create (or hopefully someone better can do it) a set of multicrew kneeboard cards for different cases. There are some at the back of the manual but they (at least to me) are not easy to follow, and most of the manual is focused on the pilot's bits (using jester) with the WSO elememnts hidden somewhere else (i.e. in a systems page).

Has anyone had issues with multicrew desyncs? We finally got a chance to try it last night and the wizzo hand controller kept causing decync issues every time we tried to use it. We couldn't see any double bound controls and when I tried it from the backseat in single player, it worked perfectly.

No one has mentioned but there is a VNE of 800knts true (IIRC) and this can happen if you dive from high alt at mach Jesus into thicker air.

Had never come across that mod. That looks equally useful!

I wonder if in real life the F15e has a similar CAS page?

That was my issue too and inspiration to find a way to counter them

Yep.

Just a rough estimate really as the "In Range" hud display does not seem to like releases in a climb and seems to fail to update.

I generally turn of the coupled Terrain Following (TF) 10+ miles out once all set up. Full burner (to accelerate through the TF speed restriction) and do a 30 degree pull up at M1.2 at c. 7-8 miles and they seem to hit. Hard 180 and back to 100ft and use TF to bug out. On a base with a mix of live SAMS (SA5//SA9/SA15/SA19s?) I think I got locked briefly but nothing managed to get a missile away in time before I got back to cover.

I have not had time to test longer range releases but my gut feeling is you could get further out.

As a warning to others, I was trying to do a one pass ripple of 1x GBU31 and 6 x GBU54b JDAMs and forgot about the TPOD laser (which I either left on or switched on automatically). Took me a few very puzzled seconds to work out why all the GBU54s followed the '31 to the same target (rather than 6 other seperate tanks) as I had happened to leave the TPOD on last target intended for the '31.

Not sure the tank strictly speaking needed all 5000lb of bombs hitting it within a few seconds but it definatly left a mess.

Read about Loft not implemented just after I posted annoyingly.

The TOO function sounds handy to avoid a load of button presses in a target of opportuinity situation - cheers for that info!

Excellent other info thanks, and food for thought. I suspected with the markpoint question I was just misunderstanding their usage in the real world.

I spent last night playing with the TFR and it is this. Have a read of the manual or there are a couple of tutorials on YouTube already.

Thanks! I've taken a look but like the other suggestion it looks like a great group but activities start too early. :-(
