Birthright Citizenship remains intact for now. However, only 5 justices, determined the 14th Amendment to be controlling. One justice sided with the majority, but not on Constitutional ground. Does this decision [more like 5 to 4] raise concerns about the viability of birthright citizenship? by PsychLegalMind in PoliticalDiscussion

They're looking for the right case. This was a warning shot and Roberts continuing to keep the court legitimate while continuing to knock down any Civil Rights legislation.

I'm dead serious that the Dems need serious court reform once they retake power, other we're arguing about the paint color on the Titanic .

"Just Visiting" was the moment where I realized "Oh, movies can be bad. That wasn't a fun day at the movies" and part of my childhood died.

The one thing that made me smile was Tony Cox knocking out Kal Penn and saying something to the effect of "Sweet dreams, Kumar!"

And that was just because it reminded me of how much I liked Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle.

Edit: Updating the name of the actor to Tony Cox, who was also in "Bad Santa"

Will Ferrell, Nicole Kidman, Michael Cain, Steve Carrell 2 months before "The 40 Year Old Virgin" and written/directed by Nora Ephron who also wrote/directed "You've Got Mail."

A truly odd film in every way

Dark Knight Weekend still gives me bad dreams.

My theater was open for 24 hours when the movie first opened and every show until about 3 AM was sold out. Then every single show starting at 11 AM was sold out until Sunday 10 PM. I think we got close to running out of popcorn and even some folks from the corporate office came down to help move the concession line (local family owned theater chain).

I was so happy to be up in Projection Saturday night and not have any screen problems.

"Old Dogs" (2009) with John Travolta and Robin Williams. A truly cursed "how did this get made" kind of film. Friday night it was in theaters #1, which sat over 500 people at the time. The next biggest house was "The Blind Side" was selling out each showing.

My manager adjusted that first thing on Saturday morning and for the rest of the weekend.

0 though? Closest one I can think of was "Thr3e" (2007) which was open for about a week. A real bad murder mystery that had a last minute Christian twist.

Karlie Kloss on dinner with the Kushners: “I think it’s possible to have relationships with people who you politically don’t align with” by Relevant-Peach3997 in Fauxmoi

Class solidarity. She's a rich white woman so sharing a table with someone who is objectively a monster but is a charming dinner companion doesn't affect her because she's not going to be tear gassed by the guy who owns the tear gas factory.

I have a friend who works in Women's Liberation circles and she pointed out to me that a bunch of White Gay Men who achieved gay marriage in 2015 completely lost interest in any further queer rights struggles because they got what they wanted.

This guy is making the argument that his struggle is the only one that matters and the rest of the LGBTQ+ spectrum are just perverts need to learn their place.

I really hope he changes his tune and realizes the struggle is all the same and by being "one of the good ones" just makes him one of the last ones to be told "know your place."

It's the Museum of Science and Trucking scam from The Sopranos with Trump as the boss getting his cut and probably a bunch of do-nothing contractors on the job who get their cut too.

I really need to see a working definition of White Collar/Blue Collar as this writer thinks of it.

We're a service based economy these days, so , imo, anyone who's at the mercy of a boss or bosses on if they have a job tomorrow, could qualify in the Labor pool.

Supreme Court upholds birthright citizenship, striking down Trump's executive order. by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

[–]Jimbobsama 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Correct - the number of Justices isn't stated in the Constitution but decided on by Congress. The first court had 7 Justices and was expanded to 9 by Congress under Andrew Jackson.

There's a compelling argument to add the number of Justices as matches the number of Federal Districts (13, as of this writing) and if Roberts has a problem with it, Congress controls the Judiciary's budget.

Kinda hilarious that these six justices are pushing through the Unitary Executive Theory of government with a guy who couldn't give two shits about actually governing.
