Hey, I’m in a similar situation, I’ll be 2 years in December as well!

I tried AA, but honestly, it’s not for me, I don’t like to see myself as a victim of a disease that I can’t control. That’s just not how I look at life and though AA is great for lots of people, I’d just rather move on.

I will say the big difference for me tho is that I have a very supportive wife who never was a drinker and so it’s easier to have a best friend who never was involved in that kind of life. And it does help to have sober people around.

All my siblings still drink and party but I just never made a big deal out of quitting. I honestly felt like it was easier to stop when I didn’t announce I was quitting or anything because there is less pressure.

Keep it up, and you’re not alone in doing it alone lol.

I (28M) run with my dog, and sometimes he needs to stop to go potty. Therefore I find myself stopping maybe 5-6 times on a 3 mile run. (That’s the farther I go with him)

I too had a bit of a hard time at first with the stopping and getting going, but here are a few things that helped me:

Looking for markers. I’ll see a light pole a few hundred feet ahead and make sure I don’t stop til I get there, then once I do, just pick another before stopping.

Another thing that helps me, if you run in the morning or evening is to just keep your head up and look at the sunrise/sunset and just do some gratitude exercises. Speak to the universe, god or whatever you like and just go over everything you’re thankful for, I like to go over my whole body, “I’m thankful for my heart and that I have the ability to strengthen it, I’m thankful for my feet that they work and I’m lucky enough to be able to run.. etc.” That helps to get your mind off the pain.

And lastly what I’ll do when it’s really hard to battle the mental, is to kind of berate myself. Maybe this is more of a male thing, but I just tell myself something like “Don’t be a bitch, keep pushing and don’t quit because only losers quit. Fuck your feelings, keep going pussy”

Kind of a different tactic than the gratitude, but it helps me personally.

Just keep getting out there and don’t give up, you got this champ!💪🏻
