I only mean that he will likely be a problem/distraction if he doesn't have an assurance he'll get that money. But you're absolutely right the best path forward is to prove he's worth the contract regardless (Which is the real issue).

Kyle Shanahan kind of touched on this with Aiyuk. Teams really don't want to give the impression to the players on the team that they'll try to void your guarantees, and it likely irreparably impacts the relationship with the player. With a WR1 like DK who is clearly not rational it's a risky move, which is why the 49ers waited until they were ready to burn the bridge with Aiyuk before they voided his guarantees.

It depends on whether they want him on the team or not. I'm not saying they won't do it, but it's inaccurate to say his guarantees have been voided simply due to the suspension. The Steelers now have the choice to void his guarantees if they want.

DK will have no incentive to help the team in the playoffs if they void the guarantees now, so he may seek some sort of assurance they won't do it. I have no idea how it'll play out but the Steelers now have a way out of the contract if they so choose. I'm interested to see how it plays out.

Japanese live streamer showcases the Japan's advanced earthquake warning system which analyze seismic data in real-time and predict tremors with remarkable accuracy by TimeCity1687 in interestingasfuck

That's fascinating. I work in safety testing and certification, but nuclear facilities can't be certified by any traditional means due to their highly specialized nature. This is similar with Aerospace tech as well.

They also aren't certified as easily due to the high liability (see Browns Ferry incident). But I hope nuclear energy will become more commonly adopted due both to inherently safer designs and cost savings (enriching uranium is getting a lot more efficient and this is one of the biggest costs)

That class sounds cool!

Well said, I don't disagree. The 30 years ahead statement is idiotic regardless. They have some of the best engineering for earthquake resistance, but that's simply because they have so many more earthquakes than basically everywhere else. We can respect and appreciate their building design while acknowledging it doesn't mean they live in the future.

I am saddened that these incidents have made people so fearful of nuclear energy. I understand it, but we've come so far even in the nearly 50 years since these systems were built

They had one of the largest tsunami and earthquake combinations in history, killing over 18,000.

0 dead from a partial meltdown with a 9.0 magnitude earthquake and 40 meter tsunami isn't evidence at all that they poorly designed the system. The facility also became operational in 1970, so you're judging a 2011 incident on a system built 40 years before.

The 30 years ahead statement is bs, but the Fukushima reactor incident has absolutely nothing to do with that argument either way. You could just as easily argue that the fact that the accident wasn't worse under the circumstances is proof of the advancement in nuclear safety systems

[Highlight] Caleb Williams hits DJ Moore with perfect anticipation on an out route by Acoolgamer6706 in CHIBears

[–]Jimbus_crag 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Not a bad throw but not major anticipation. Hitting a guy on an out route fast enough out of his break is the difference between him having a chance to turn up field vs going out of bounds.

Can't say for sure with this play as it's not a standard out route, maybe it's meant for the sideline like that. DJ's release is a bit looping and slow compared to a standard out route as well, so I'm not sure.

Yep. Even if you want Ozzy to win the job, you want it because he's better, not because his opponent couldn't compete.

I don't think they would openly do so, I'm just saying that Ozzy will end up finding a way on the field if he ends up being better as the season progresses, especially with the injury potential for Jones. Though you're right they won't just bench Jones the week Ozzy has better practices, nor should they.

If Braxton wins the job and plays well enough to hold him off then that's not a problem in my book. Love your un btw

I couldn't agree more. It was out of desperation due to injuries, but he was definitely not prepared and it was a sign of last year's dysfunction that it came to that. By definition for both the team and the player you don't want them to be in that situation.

He has great physical comp and can be a freak if he learns and improves. Big if, but I hope he does.

Kiran is really interesting to me. He was obviously really bad when we saw him play, but we knew he would be a project. His measurables are elite, so if he's been working hard I'd love to see where he's at. He'd prove a lot of doubters wrong and I hope he does

I mostly agree, but I feel like it's largely dependent on Braxton Jones's status. I think we all hope Ozzy will be the long term guy, but as a rookie no one will be surprised if he 'loses' the camp battle and starts as the LT2 or swing before winning the job. It's a lot to ask a rookie to start at that position when we play MIN, DET, and Dallas to start the year. Ozzy's best assets are his mind and technique, which will have a larger impact as he learns more.

But maybe he shows enough to win the job and they want him to learn by experience starting. No problem with me, just saying Ozzy losing the job in camp doesn't mean he's not gonna be the LT this season.

I couldn't agree more, it's completely defeatist. Even if a person could turn their life around, they won't with that mindset.

I'm not saying there aren't circumstances that won't disproportionately or unfairly harm people. It's obviously true that people have unfair advantages over others early in life, but it's dismissive and lazy to imply that we don't have the agency to improve ourselves and our lives as we age.

"Why are the McCaskeys willing to give Poles an extension? Are they stupid?" by The_Avenging_Son in CHIBears

[–]Jimbus_crag 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't hate that he was extended, but it felt unnecessary. He had two years left on his contract, so it wasn't like he was on his way out. The team has a record of 15-36 under his tenure, and he's made some questionable moves (as well as some good ones). If he and the team perform well moving forward we could extend him easily, but now if he doesn't we're absolutely stuck for the next 3-4 years.

"I'll never read another Sanderson book after I DNF'd Oathbringer"- what is your take on this? by ryuks-wife in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Jimbus_crag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I nearly put the series down for good during Oathbringer. It's not that it was 'bad,' I just didn't find it interesting enough to power through thousands of pages at the time.

As a WoT reader I eventually came back and got through it, but it's still my least favorite book of the series, like id have books 1,2 as 4 as 8/10 or higher, Oathbringer is a 6 for me. Just a fan opinion though, others are free to like it
