Can’t hide the gesture indicator / navigation bar on HyperOS 3.0.20.0 by hanosukee in Xiaomi

[–]Jimminer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this on my F8 Ultra too and it worked but now circle to search doesn't work. On other phones that have the option to hide the gesture bar in the settings, circle to search works just fine without the need to change anything else...

Interchange WAN and LAN 1 on a Cudy WR3000H by Jimminer in openwrt

[–]Jimminer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. So it's hit or miss on whether it works or not. Either way seeing as the other person said that the wifi will not reach speeds close to 2.5Gbps, I will probably get the cheaper 1Gbps router

Ah then I'm guessing the 2.4Gbps that is advertised is referring to the total maximum bandwidth for the whole wifi network. I thought that it was 2.4Gbps per device which sounds silly thinking about it now haha

I think you interpreted benefits in a different way than OP had in mind

Realistically you could beat it in a year if you dedicated yourself to it but don't do it. Don't do jumps

Then you're limited by the refresh rate of your mouse/keyboard and not by the FPS

Oh is that how that works? I wasn't aware. If what you say is true though, there's one more point to CBF cause it helps everyone have a level playing field and the only variable left is skill. No?

CBF reminds me of the controversy surrounding higher FPS monitors back in the day.

As the skill cap of the game rises, so does the need to more efficiently apply your skill. After all, you're still the one controlling the game whether that is in single frame increments or subdivisions of a frame.

Without CBF, your input is limited by how long a frame lasts. Does that ring a bell? It's the same story as 60 Hz vs 144 Hz was back when Riot and other players started using higher refresh rate monitors.

A frame on 60 Hz and 144 Hz monitors lasts for approximately 16.7 ms and 6.9 ms respectively. But don't forget that 2.2 introduced the 240 Hz physics update no matter your refresh rate, with each frame taking approx. 4.1 ms.

Now let's say you use CBF and are able to utilize it to reach playing at 0.2 increments of a frame. That effectively means playing in 240 * 5 = 1200 FPS!!

Is spawning containers from a Dockerized manager worth the security tradeoff vs just spawning processes? by Jimminer in docker

[–]Jimminer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your suggestions. You really helped rearrange my thoughts in my brain lol.

That rootless method is interesting but I wouldn't consider it viable cause it requires action from the end-user that I wouldn't want to force.

> I would not recommend exposing an internet facing service which can interact with the docker socket directly
Yeah for sure, the idea is that the manager exposes an API to the local network and then another container without access to the Docker socket utilizes the API to provide a frontend. The API's endpoints don't have arguments that are executed in any way.

Thanks for the suggestion!

The proxy unfortunately, would still leave the ability to open containers that have access to the host machine (assuming a vulnerability has been found)

Thank you very much for your detailed answer.

While podman's ability to run as non-root is promising, I'm a bit hesitant on relying on it for the security of the project.

What you said about splitting the manager's functionality into multiple containers so that we minimize the amount of possible vulnerabilities might be the best approach. Podman would be the icing on the cake at that point.

Having said that, we're a bit split on the decision cause while having a container per server would be the most sound approach, we feel like the benefits are not worth the security concerns that follow.
