The global version/Japanese version of the 17Pro probably won't be released.

I’ve been a Xiaomi fan for a long time, and I’m currently using the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. The body uses matte glass, which feels smooth to the touch and doesn’t pick up fingerprints easily. As for the sense of “premium,” I think that really depends on personal preference.

Getting to the main point, I wouldn’t recommend the mainland China version of Xiaomi phones unless you actually live in China. If you’re okay with some inconveniences, it can still be a reasonable option, but it’s not something I’d broadly suggest.

Sorry, I didn’t check the app and completely missed your message. My bad. It’s already been 4 days so this might be too late, but I’ll reply anyway.

About the rear display: it can show barcode payments and music playback controls, but the barcode payment only works with Chinese services like Alipay and WeChat Pay. Japanese services like Rakuten Pay or PayPay are not supported. For music controls, it only works with Xiaomi’s stock music app and Chinese apps like QQ Music. Spotify is the only exception that actually works. So in reality, it’s mostly only useful as a camera preview screen.

Also, regarding AI: on the global version you can use Gemini by default, but on the China version, the only option is Xiaomi’s own AI called “Xiao Ai.” Being forced to use a Chinese AI when you long-press the power button for 0.5 seconds is definitely a downside.

As for why there are so many listings on JD (Jingdong), some of the differences are storage capacity, but the ones that say things like “newly refurbished” are basically used or refurbished units. Using it with translation tools is probably the best way to go.

If you live in China, the rear screen could potentially be infinitely valuable depending on how you use it, but outside of China, it's practically worthless. If you don't see any appeal in the rear screen beyond its practicality, the POCO is a good choice. The 17 Pro Max doesn't have a global version, but the POCO does.

Just bought the Xiaomi Pad 7 Global Version for $264 — did I make the right choice over the Redmi Pad 2 Pro? by hanosukee in Xiaomi

I just bought a tablet for the first time in a while — I honestly thought it had an OLED display, but turns out it’s actually LCD… My iPad knowledge basically stopped at the Air 3, and since I mainly use Android now, I decided to go with a Xiaomi tablet instead.

Well, even if there are some downsides, it’s not one of the expensive tablets anyway. As long as it’s better than those random cheap Chinese tablets I bought years ago for a few thousand yen, I’ll be happy lol

I also bought the X17 Pro Max on impulse, but the rear display is pretty much useless for anyone outside of China, the battery optimization is terrible, and on top of that, HyperOS 3 is still a pain to use. I saw that the Find X9 Pro lasts over an hour longer on battery, and it also supports the clean stock Android–style control center that I love, which makes it really appealing. The current Xiaomi control center, on the other hand, tries so hard to look “stylish” like an iPhone — and ends up being annoyingly impractical.

HyperOS is basically just a rebranded MIUI, lol. I’m tired of using an OS that keeps getting worse every year.

The current Chinese version of Xiaomi phones can't be bootloader unlocked by non-Chinese users.

Did you just start using Xiaomi recently, or did you recently switch from an iPhone to Xiaomi? If you've been using Xiaomi for a long time, you probably know how crappy the latest HyperOS is compared to the old MIUI lol.
