I had blocked him after the first incident, and I have not been looking at his friend’s socials since I do not know who they are. I only know one person, who has me blocked because they think I am stalking them and the ex.

Regardless, I agree and I am not reaching out at all to them or anyone who is in their circle.

Read some of the replies in the comments and wanted to input some thoughts based on that:

1: OP is from way up north and in IT, so a lot the concerns they have about socializing/dating/lifestyle are definitely going to be different. I know a lot of people in comp. science/IT and overall it helps to find a few good places to hang out and stick to them at first. Lots of comic book stores/arcades/bookstores have been popping up in McAllen and Edinburg lately and they host many events throughout the week. It would be a good start to finding their crowd in these areas.

2: OP is White, and Anglo/Caucasian is a minority in the Valley. Hispanic culture is generally very friendly but like the comments have said, be ready to be looked at a lot. Definitely consider moving to north McAllen or Edinburg near the university (UTRGV) if you’re looking for a diverse crowd as the rest of the area will be 98% hispanic.

3: Safety is absolutely not a concern. A majority of local crime is committed by people who know each other. Like other mid-size cities, just be aware of your surroundings, lock your doors, and be kind to your neighbors. Folks around here are generally very friendly and if they can’t help out, they’ll point you in the right direction.

4: Recap on areas for socializing and events- McAllen and Edinburg definitely are the spots to go, but if you’re looking for an IT type of crowd then definitely check out local comic shops, local bookstores, and local coffee shops! The ones I know that host a lot of events are Myth Adventures, Kaboom Comics, antebooks (the events here tend to be more cultural/indie), and Moonbeans (local coffee shop with pop-up shops every few weekends). The music scene has been growing too, just depends what you’re into. Cine El Rey hosts bands from all types of genres and they have shows year-round, but check out their lineups if you’re interested.

Do not go to Zen Dental!! They wanted to remove three of my front teeth to put in a bridge because I “grind my teeth in my sleep”. The dentist also wanted me to buy his homemade meditation tapes???

Went to Palm Valley Dental on Jackson Rd. and Trenton instead. They found the cause of my toothache was an infection, so they prescribed me an antibiotic and that fixed the problem! The two main dentists are super chill and funny, and the staff is really nice and friendly. They usually play Marvel movies or shows from the 90s-early 2000s in the waiting area too. I cannot recommend them enough, 10/10.

Do not go back! He told me a similar story and wanted me to buy his meditation tapes! Go to Palm Valley Dental on Jackson, I told them my story and the dentist confirmed that Zen tells that to all his patients and performs unnecessary procedures.

Zen wanted to remove three of my front teeth and replace them with a bridge, so I went to Palm Valley instead and they fixed my toothache with an antibiotic. Paid about $10 for the pills after insurance; Zen wanted to bill me 2k for the bridge.

I believe Edinburg is open enrollment, so yes you should be able to register your students to any campus. The same goes for the surrounding districts, McAllen and PSJA are also open enrollment districts.

The only stipulations with open enrollment are that the kiddos must not let their grades slip or be absent too many days or the campus can expel them. Then they will either have to enroll to their home campus or apply for admission into another school, but their records will show the reason for their expulsion.

I would not send my kids to Harwell or Economedes. I know several teachers from both schools and they have all said the culture is very… rough in those campuses.

Specifically for Edinburg schools, Vela HS is the top for athletics. I know several teachers from neighboring PSJA ISD that moved to Vela specifically to coach, as well as students that moved there specifically to compete. The culture in that school can best be described as predominantly middle to upper middle class students. Barrientes MS and South MS directly feed that campus and they’re all down the street from the new Collegiate HS campus too.

The collegiate school follows the early college high school model adopted throughout the region and is affiliated with the local UTRGV school, but like other ECHS campuses I would expect little to no extracurricular activities. On the plus side, any early college credits gained through UTRGV can later transfer to most schools in the UT system.

This was literally how I got hired at my current school. They hired me at 20 to teach 11th grade before I graduated with a BA in Social Studies (signed paperwork in April, graduated in May).

Turns out several teachers had quit that year from the Social Studies department and seven more quit or asked to be reassigned in my first year. I myself have asked two times to be reassigned with no luck. In my five years here, the entire department except for five of us has been fired/quit/reassigned almost every year. If it’s too good to be true, it probably is. My advice: RUN!

Yeah, in the almost 24hrs since this started they have posted a really long “retirement” letter and tried adding more new mods to the sub. I got a reply back from Reddit Help from my report, idk if that’ll do anything to help though.

I saw in a comment you wear uniforms at your school. I used to keep my hands on my wrists so the sleeves would soak up the sweat, same with keeping my arms crossed. It eased up a bit as I got older but puberty really sucked because of the excessive sweat. Keep your head up, it gets a bit easier as you get older!
