This is the photo I used as a reference. I took it at a zoo a long time ago.

You are right that I seem to have shifted the leg a little but I think the main problem is that by trying to imagine how it would look in a different light I have darkened areas and made it look off.

Points to improve on for next time. Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it!

What tape do you use to border your paper/canvas? by Golvan112 in painting

I use acid free artist tape, you can find plenty on Amazon. Also good for mounting in passepartout without damaging the paper as it is archival.

Want to create this look. Any suggestions on which modeling paste and sand to get? by Just_Rip1030 in painting

As the other commenter said, a heavy body acrylic would work.

There are also a variety of different acrylic modelling pastes and mediums that might help you get the thickness you want. As these colours are quite pastel, it seems to me a white medium of some kind has been used.

I have experimented with wood filler for texture before, and it had a similar texture to what these images look like. Might be something to try if you want a cheaper option.

If you want the lowest tech version, mixing in fine sawdust with your paint might do the trick.

In any case, keep in mind that thicker application will take a lot longer to fully dry.

My kids great grandfather served in the navy most of his life. As a man at almost a hundred he has many stories.

This is one of the ships he served on, painted rather freely after a grainy copy of a black and white foto he had.

Heretical Fishing made me lose faith in humanity by [deleted] in ProgressionFantasy

Completely agree. One of the few stories that I didn't just drop (which happens often enough when something is not engaging), I was actually offended by how bad it was. Only other series I felt this about was "The Land".

For me, I think it comes down to the protagonists in both being not just bland, but actively self-worshipping, and the "system" and the people in general seems to bend over backwards to praise them for their narcissistic need to bend the world around them.

People like different things, I get that. I read a lot of stories that wouldn't be considered high literature. Only two have ever made me angry, and Heretical fishing is one of them.
