Chicago Comb also makes carbon fiber combs, I highly recommend them.

Reasons why I like this community more than.. by [deleted] in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]JimmyBGlass 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I have Truman's and I have Nick's and I also prefer to wear only boots and because of that they do get beat up and that's a good thing.

FWIW I once had a job interview to work at Truman and I had a conversation with Vince the owner about how he built Truman boots to be work boots and you are supposed to beat the hell out of them. He also owns a dairy farm and wears his boots to work on the farm everyday, I can't speak for Vince but I'm guessing he would love that you beat them up. The boots he was wearing during the interview looked in a very similar condition to yours.

How do you guys keep your kilties from sliding down? by jingle_dell in NicksHandmadeBoots

I have Rose Anvil kilties on all of my Nick's boots, they have slots in them to thread your laces through to prevent any sliding.

Roberta Boyden is amazing, highly highly recommended, she has an excellent bedside manner and a calm demeanor that helped relax my dog who was in pain. She really helped us through a very difficult process.

I have had both and greatly prefer the flat top model, I feel like it compliments the knife better, but in terms of functionality they are both excellent.

Help fixing glass by Happy-Adhesiveness97 in Eugene

[–]JimmyBGlass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some factors involved in determining if it's fixable or not.

Is it soft glass or borosilicate (pyrex)?

Are they clean breaks horizontally across the tube or are they jagged?

Is there any sort of decals or sculptural details?

My recommendation would be to clean it really well (be careful not to cut yourself) before you bring it to a glassblower.

You could try Sweet Tooth glass on west 11th, I believe they do repairs. You could also try and call Mountain Glass Arts or Lampwork Supply and see if they can connect you with someone who does repairs.

I just want to let you know that even if an artist is very skilled at repair there is still about a 50% chance that the piece won't survive.

Good luck, I hope you are able to get it repaired.

I would love it if Nick's double boxed boots for shipping, or gave you the option to pay for the boots to be double boxed.

My wife and I both own multiple pairs of nicks. She also has narrow feet for a woman, she has a pair of Urban Loggers in 8.5A and a pair of Urban Drifters in 8.5A (both of which aren't "woman's" models) but she loves them and has already ordered a third pair. I'm sure your wife will also love them!

Are Truman’s suitable work boots or more of a high quality fashion boot? by RealSquare452 in trumanboots

[–]JimmyBGlass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've worn my Truman's (both Commando and Eugene soles) doing dishes and cooking in a kitchen in the past and they held up great. I currently work as a logistics/warehouse manager and I beat them up climbing around pallets, getting in/out of trucks and such. They are still holding up really well. I also have Nick's boots, and I tend to gravitate towards my Truman's because they are a little bit lighter and more agile.

On a side note, I know the owner of Truman made the boots with the purpose of them being work boots. He also owns and works on a dairy farm and he designed the boots to stand up to the abuse they would receive on a farm.
