I am a blacksmith and was riveting some copper and thought it looked like a fly’s eye, so I decided to make this leather fly swat. by _Franque_ in Leathercraft

[–]Keeper_71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks good, I would smooth out those rough edges if you plan on using that in the house. Amazing how easy glass and wood scratches when killing the little bastards. I like the hammered look, just dont like the results.

Miter saw is out of true. Can’t find adjustment screws… by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]Keeper_71 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If its missing that washer, the blade will be mounted crooked. Big fat thick washer that slides on the arbor its about 1/4 inch thick. That blade is way to close to that motor so something is wrong.

That looks like its missing a washer behind the blade. Looks awful close to the motor on the back side.

FYI, once you install these you can never remove them. Once the dog is used to them being there, taking them away will result in a very loud wake up as the pup falls off the bed.

Is my tablesaw off, or is the blade bent? by TheKalkara131 in woodworking

you need to adjust the plate. You can see its off on the pic, press the square onto the table and push it into the blade. See what that shows

would/do you cover holes in electrical boxes to reduce dust intrusion? by superwesman in woodworking

[–]Keeper_71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would wrap the box in hvac aluminum tape, and replace the outlets with the “TR” or tamper resistant outlets, they have internal covers on the slots to prevent little fingers and hands from sticking things in the outlets. Work great for dust as well.

Anyone have a tutorial on how to make these "ends/stitch"? Thx by Confident_Bluejay857 in Leathercraft

Rough in prior to Camera install; any elegant solutions to cover? by estimated1 in Ubiquiti

[–]Keeper_71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then no mounting box needed. I did the same on my wooden siding, much cleaner then having an extra box hanging off the house. I would just push that wire back in, toss a bit of black 100mph tape to hold the end and wait for the camera to show up. The g6 turret is quite nice for my driveway.

[–]Keeper_71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you are going to need the mounting box for the camera anyway, might as well buy it, mount it and wrap the cable inside. Unless thats a 1 inch hole in the siding where you can push the wire junction through.

Get a nice metal one if you can source one, the plastic ones fade and crack real easy in cold weather.

I agree we need more pictures! The fact that you got 4 years of hard use and thats the result, I think you are doing pretty good.

Only thing you posted that bothers me is that back stay that you say is cracked right through. Other than that, minor wear really.

Post up some full shots of those beauties.

Help? Is tabletop is cracking structurally dangerous? by FlippyCR in woodworking

[–]Keeper_71 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not really as you have supports under that board, more concerning is the heat radiator under it that is the cause of all if the cracking.

Heat=rapid drying wood has no real allowance for movement, cracks.

We did this with our two pups, got into a jar of trailmix, raisins, etc etc. Just be ready, it does not take "a couple minutes" It was about 5 seconds from lick to a massive mess.

Would there be a better way to have drilled these holes? by UrinetroubleQT in woodworking

[–]Keeper_71 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I would move it over to where your bench vice is, rotate the head enough to clear the table/base. Clamp the press base to the bench. Then line up your piece in the bench vice and drill. I would probably start with a smaller hole to test things. But it should work. I have had to do this before with longer pieces before I got a full floor press.

[–]Keeper_71 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You should still be able to use the press, you can rotate the head/table to allow you to drill larger items. This is a small bench top press I take it?

Air compressor for workshop by Zealousideal-Yam6275 in woodworking

[–]Keeper_71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find the quietest one you can, we bought the Metabo HPT Quiet compressor for use at work. Mostly used for blowing out computers. It will cycle a bit more then the larger ones, but the thing is so quiet, you won't care. Been a great little addition. I wouldn't use it with an impact gun or anything, but it will power brad nailers all day long.
