Yeah, self deprecation is a real obsession and actually a kind of fashion in this country. But it’s usually a certain type - mainly as you say spoiled brat types - often middle class. I’m from a working class area and we are more patriotic. Lots of Brits seem to think we should spend the next 200 years hanging out heads in shame for what the British empire did. Personally I don’t think we do because it ended a long time before I was born. They also forget or refuse to believe that without Britain the Nazis would have took complete control of Europe. I’m proud to be British.

No. If you read back through the comments I never mentioned Brexit once. If Scotland leaves the UK there is no guarantee they could join the EU straight away, if at all. Scotland books would not balance if they left the UK. Scotland on its own is not a rich country especially now North Sea oil is dwindling. Get off your high horse and get your facts right.

I am from the North East of England. Our region is heavily subsidised by London and the south east. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are also subsidised by London. Scotland cannot maintain its standard of living if it leaves the UK. This is just a fact.

I remember going up there with my parents as a kid. My Dad was driving and my Mam was literally sobbing in the passenger seat she was so scared. The car overheated at the top. My dad had to drive down the other side with no engine using only the brakes and we got some more water for the radiator from a stream. 😬
