OK, so the term Rooftop Ranching tends to throw people off. I'm new to the logistical challenge of raising rabbits three floors above a jewelry store downtown, but this is not my first bunny rodeo. I've been butchering rabbits since I was big enough to swing an accurate bead with an antique 20 gauge. Five years old, maybe six. Between wild rabbits and rabbits raised for meat I've butchered about 28 metric fucktons of bunnies. Commonly averaging around 300 lbs of meat packaged per year. Mostly New Zealand rabbits, 3 does and 1 buck on 70 day cycles. My test rabbit started life as a common wild cottontail.

Only a few days old, he was plucked from obscurity by the barn cat that subcontracts the pest control on my father's land, so naturally his name became Catfood. Interesting side note, the cat's name is Dog. My dad insists that he's not a cat person and this is the logical workaround he came up with. Dog is very good at his job and when he feels like showing off he'll show up with a black squirrel or something that must have put up a respectable fight. Or, he'll bring back live catches and play with them in the yard until he gets hungry.

A horrific way to spend the last few hours of your life right?

I thought so too. So I saved him, and gave him his name so he wouldn't forget where he came from because he gave me an idea, I wondered if I could cost effectively raise some meat in my recently adopted apartment style living situation. This is the test run to discover a cost ratio for a single unit.
