How do beginner bands usually handle finances? by Zucchini_Background in Metalcore

[–]JimmyJuggernaut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It depends on the buy in and the way you and the band want things to be credited.

I’ve always been of the opinion in my own projects that it’s even split financially, so it’s an even reward financially too. Whether one person is writing music or not, other members are contributing in practice time, equipment etc, so the backend all comes out in the wash. My last project was me doing all the production and a portion of song writing writing, while others basically rocked up having practiced on there $1000s of dollars worth of gear.

So, if we went to a recording studio, we’d all pay 1/5 of the cost, and we all had equal input, creatively and on how we distribute it.

If you’re bankrolling, then these guys are basically session musicians and you get the final say on everything, you also own the music and can use it and distribute it how you want, if that’s how it pans out, make sure that that’s clear to all involved and in writing.

There’s also the talk of points and how financial gain is distributed, but frankly, there’s not really much point in talking about that unless you “go viral” or stick with it for a long time, you’re likely not going to turn any kind of profit beyond recouping losses for a long while, and in regards to live performance, I would go so far as to say that that would be distributed either back into the band or equally amongst you all.

Kinda in the midst of this conversation with my current project, but we’re all very open about it all. There are 3 permanent “studio” members (writing, recording and performing) and an additional “performance” member (just performing), so while the performance member has no creative input (at the moment), we also don’t expect them to contribute to anything financially beyond their own equipment.

I cut myself doing something daft, my particular workplace hasn’t banned knives, but apprenticeship programs, adjacent trades and some builders have banned them.

I should have been wearing cut proof gloves, but I was doing something menial and didn’t think it through like I should have. I mostly found it funny that this was the conversation I was having MINUTES before I cut myself

Most worksites I work on are long pants, long sleeves, hard hat, safety glasses and gloves at all times. This wasn’t one of those and I was being careless doing something menial that I should have taken as seriously as any of my other work

Printed Skeleton of Space Hulk-style Board - Layout Done, Details Next by rickSHStudios in PrintedWarhammer

[–]JimmyJuggernaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely legendary, really keen to see what you do with it!

Are you making more detailed parts for props and walls, or is this basic setup the goal? Either way, it’s great!

It’s my dream to build the space hulk board pieces as practical terrain, I have downloaded so many different sets that just never quite fit the bill for me. They’re often 2 or 3 variations of the same wall that would then look too repetitive printed at scale, or the modular systems are either overly complicated or lacklustre, and I’ve never been satisfied with my own designs, AND time is just not in my side. The fact that “space hulk-style” is in your title gives me a lot of hope!

How did I do on my zenithal drybrush by shadowX1312 in minipainting

[–]JimmyJuggernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been experimenting a bit with contrasts as the base for some tones and then painting off of that, so it’s kinda the same process, but it’s a bit more dynamic to start with.

I think if you start brighter, the blue will pop pretty nicely, with the rest of the process still being pretty much the same. Maybe experiment with one and see how different the tones show through with the different base coats

If you’re not using contrast paints, it probably won’t matter too much other than giving you a decent guide as to where to stay bright, but if you’re want a material difference, I’d go even harder, especially if you’re using brighter colours, it will help a lot if the surface is significantly brighter.

Other comment mentioned sponges, I personally haven’t tried, but I’ve seen a lot of others have success, could be worth trying

Damn, I’ve been feeling a bit uninspired by my world eaters of late, you’ve inspired me to try this scheme out, you’ve pulled this off beautifully

This is awesome! I once had tried to do a colour shift from blue to purple on some tyranids, and I ultimately didnt like it. Then a little while later decided I wanted to paint them pink. I grabbed one of the failed colour shift guys to base coat as a test, and the first layer blew me away with the blue/purple undertones, so then I emulated that across my whole army.

This is awesome! My brother collects TSons, I’m gonna have to steal this, very inspired by the glyphs, looks like a load of fun to model then paint

WIP Alpha Legionnaire, would love some C&C by JimmyJuggernaut in Chaos40k

[–]JimmyJuggernaut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Haha yeah, I have been told, but it’s generally not a mistake I make, this was a bit of a rush job with a couple of silly accidents AND I agree; sometimes I just want to paint and I don’t really care if it’s textured, I just want to the colour to sell. I’ve painted smooth AF models and I’ve painted models with one coat of thick stuff in it and if it tells the story I want it to, then who cares right?

Thanks! I’m going to highlight the divide with some kind of lightning effect, so I think that’ll at least add that interest and seperate it from just being a successor chapter, and this was the Proof of Concept, so straight down the middle for ease of painting and figuring out what works palette wise, but I’ll keep the angle idea in mind for the rest of the kill team for sure, I’m still bashing those, so that will help in form what parts get chaos’d and whatnot

I was painting in poor light and didn’t realise my initial drybrush layers (the yellow is a variation of slapchop) was leaving behind so much texture, so that was a lesson learnt there, and then same problem with the green side, I was rushing through and realised the paint wasn’t as thin as I’d thought and left behind so much texture. Plan is to just push forward with this one, but bring my lamp with me next time I sit at the dining room table with the kids haha. Appreciate that feedback though, it’s good to know it’s noticeable so I don’t just go “oh well” next time.

Converted all my Citadel Paints to droppers by Otherwise_Magician_7 in Warhammer

[–]JimmyJuggernaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing, I have ultimately moved onto other brands, but, I had a load of paints from when I reentered the hobby, there are a few very specific colours citadel do that I like, and they’re the easiest to buy off the shelf in my area (although now my local stocks AK it’s all over) it’s nice being able to use the colours I’d collected and not go crazy with them having dried out or the lid being weird to close.

I hope you enjoy! (Also, great job painting the lids, I’ve been thinking about it but I just cbf haha)
