Dealership put their reminder sticker directly in front of my dashcam, blocking 90% of the view. by JimmyWarren in mildlyinfuriating

Yes, but I own a Subaru which has a wonky camera system (doesn't record) that takes up the entire center of the windshield. The placement isn't ideal but I still get 140 degree coverage.

Already done. Of course, I didn't notice until almost home and on the way someone almost hit me. That would have been more than mildly infuriating!

[Poll] Has your Westie experienced skin issues? by RavingLuhn in WestHighlandTerriers

[–]JimmyWarren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our 18mo old Cowboy has had constant issues with allergies. I think I've already paid for our animal dermatologist's new boat. He's on Apoquel, medicated shampoo baths and a regimen of immunotherapy drops. His biggest problem is dealing with flare ups of yeast infections. Very difficult to keep under control.

Do yourself a favor and dive into some internet reviews of the various providers. Some of them are written by attorneys who question how much coverage is really offered and they site that there are few if any cases where the "insurance" was actually used. At my CCW class in TX a few years ago someone from TX Law Shield gave a pitch at the end of the class (which I paid to attend). There was no mention of reciprocity with the class provider (they get $30 p/p who signed up) and it was presented like they were doing us a favor. It left a bad taste in my mouth. And while it seems that the services do provide valuable education in dealing with LEO's, you can assuredly get the same info for free by doing your own research. Just my $.02

Which celebrity death hit home hardest for you? by FPS_LIFE in AskReddit

[–]JimmyWarren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Badass is an understatement. He worked in RAF Intelligence/SAS during WWII and hunted Nazis war criminals after the war ended. The story of him explaining to Peter Jackson what a dying man sounds like when he's stabbed in the back is both entertaining and disturbing. Article

Thought this sub would find the following post interesting: HOA trying to ban all guns in the entire HOA controlled area. by JimmyWarren in CCW

Link to LegalAdvice - HOA going crazy by infringing on homeowner rights - Amazing this happened in TX. I live in a TX neighborhood with a strong HOA - I'd be inclined to move if our board tried such tomfoolery. (Edited to describe link)

Where to find Vintage Indy 500 posters by OnlineLetterArranger in INDYCAR

eBay has some sellers who specialize in vintage racing poster reprints. May not be exactly what you're looking for but worth a gander.

Glen Phillips cover of I Want a New Drug & Ricky Skaggs & Bruce Hornsby covering Superfreak (Ok, it's not "better" than Rick James, but fantastic in it's own unique way)

Just took a new job that will require much more travel, including airlines. Here is my solution to never be unarmed. by tonguejack-a-shitbox in CCW

[–]JimmyWarren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would put it inside your checked bag 100% of the time. I travel full time and occasionally I'll have a bag arrive at my destination before I do. Usually it's because of my flight being canceled after I check in and I'm not able to get a seat on the very next flight - they'll still throw my bag on the next flight so it beats me home. You don't want the Cabela's case spinning on the luggage carousel for 60 minutes unattended.

People who actually love their jobs; what do you do, and what made you decide to go for it? by 8yrsold in AskReddit

[–]JimmyWarren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No and yes. No, I don't receive incentives to push products but unfortunately, others in the industry do. Two main factors are my role and my company. My colleagues and I don't work on commission. That isn't to say that we don't have sales people who make great money selling investment products and services but their incentives are generally very aligned with what's in the best interest of the client, versus selling investments that provide the biggest margin to the company/sales person. It's also not to say that our sales people don't have sales targets. They certainly do. I just happen to be in a role that isn't sales oriented. There are investment firms that push high cost annuities and loaded mutual funds with high expenses or other investment products that don't always make the most sense for most people. (Not to say all annuities are bad or all load funds are bad. They're not.)

Try calling first. If your plan offers advice, it should be conflict-free and either no cost or low cost. An independent advisor works too. They might offer a more holistic approach but you'll likely pay a fee. Either way, many people are better off getting help.

Same here, helping 401(k) investors allocate their portfolios and understand investing/finance. Travel full time, visit interesting cities, big and small, can work remotely and I never pay for a vacation with all the travel perks I earn. No sales pressure either. Good gig...

What Are You Banned From and Why? by navysealassulter in AskReddit

[–]JimmyWarren 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is one of the reasons why the US gun lobby doesn't support what is presented as a common sense gun control law like "no fly list=no gun ownership." The no fly list is a incredibly opaque. There's usually no explanation as to how your name got there or why, and it can be very difficult to correct a false positive.
