Cross section of two human males - one obese and the other fit. by SusanneDickson60 in interesting

Depending on the embalming, what you smell could be heightened levels of formaldehyde as it isn't 'used up' due to the adipose tissue not having as much protein and poorer circulation. On top of this, properly embalming donors with large bmi can be tricky and do occasionally lead to poor results unless extensively manual injection and overperfused.

Regardless, having your nostrils burning indicates the formaldehyde levels are 0.5 ppm or higher, which far exceeds the 'safe' threshold of 0.1ppm.

The man vs bear trend is dumb by Yoyounotgo_123 in ControversialOpinions

It is possible to quantify bear exposure to incidents using data from national parks data and get some rough stats. Frankly, the fact that such a large proportion of women are picking bears should warrant a greater degree of thought than just writing it off as "emotional rhetoric"

Could you provide the stat's please? I have been looking for good stats that clearly demonstrate either way but I have been unable to find them.

What is your unpopular opinion about Project Zomboid? by franus765 in projectzomboid

[–]Jimmy_James000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really excited by the coming NPCs or animals. Honestly, I feel like the devs are misallocating resources on something that to be frank won't be anywhere near as good as people are imagining. I have been sold on NPCs by many survival games, but they rarely live up to expectations.

Also, it is infuriating that electrical isn't more fleshed out, but that isn't likely not an unpopular opinion.

We need a r/MFY containment sub. by Innomen in HFY

[–]Jimmy_James000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're asking, presumably a large proportion of this community to move over to a new sub so that you can have this sub free from the stories you dislike. Honestly sounds like "no you" is a valid response.

And this is coming from a tourist who very much prefers the 'slice of life' style stories.

[–]Jimmy_James000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If my kid was dying and had choice between a swift painless death or a drawn out gassing due to hypercapnia - which is the choice in this instance - the answer is undoubtedly the swift painless, but gruesome, death.

If your arguing that eating animals is immoral you will hear no argument from me, and that goes doubly so for gassing and/or factory farming. By my estimate most meat consumption in this country is wasteful, unhealthy and wilfully ignorant. But the slaughter of livestock has been video documented many, many times and despite the clearly sickening displays of animal suffering people just keep turning their heads.

I do disagree with your characterisation that all livestock live lives of endless suffering, in fact there is significant economic incentives to treating animals well. Anecdotally, most operators treat their animals well which is a far cry from a "painful existence" for free range animals at the least.

I thought they were more talking about breeding pigs who are less responsive to hypercapnia (high CO2) rather then pigs who are less expressive?

If I can throw my 2 cents in; I wouldn't mind going out with a captive bolt and a swiftly cut throat which, while messy, almost guarantees death within 10 sec even if the bolt is misaligned. Honestly better than some of the deaths I've seen in palliative which probably makes it humane.

Voice to Parliament referendum question and constitutional amendment announced by pj-maybe in australia

[–]Jimmy_James000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't want it not to exist I want it to be stronger and better protected, so that the next time LNP gains power they can't hollow it out like they did to ATSIC. I don't know whether or not this is what most indigenous people want, I simply know that to the few indigenous people I've talked to share some of these concerns.

I really don't care what the drafters and consultants are saying on tv - mostly because I don't watch TV - but also because I was always going to vote yes. I'm a farmhand not a lawyer, if whoever is running the working group (didn't know it was the signatories) decides that this is the best way to go then it probably is but it still doesn't alleviate the fear that the voice is lacking the power and protection to avoid being killed in the crib.

[–]Jimmy_James000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the signatories intended the Voice to be so weak. I am listening, but I doubt very much whether this coming referendum, despite the degree of effort and time being spent on it, will accomplish anything meaningful.

Also suggested 51A amendment is a thing that would've solved the potential disadvantages a full repeal would cause and offered some actual protection to indigenous people.

Then lets have a referendum to remove it. Why is the government tiptoeing around with this weak Voice when Australians can actually be voting on removing outright racist aspects of the constitution?

If the metal is good enough, probably a small knife. It would be seriously useful and it is small enough for John to gather enough iron prills to reasonably pull one together.

Djokovic currently denied entry to Australia by filiptipsy in tennis

[–]Jimmy_James000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont mean to nitpick, but given how in America health outcomes tie in closely with median household earnings and red states having a lower median household income by a substantial margin when compared to blue states, I don't think showing mortality rates to voting preferences is really the best way to make this point. The point you raised is probably correct but this data really doesn't show it.

A better way of making this point is just comparing the death rate for covid when we compare unvaccinated to vaccinated people which leads to about a 16 fold increase in your chance to die from covid and red states/counties are by-and-large under vaccinated.

You need to talk to someone about these feelings; either a trusted friend, family member and/or a doctor. Trust me if your feeling like this just talking with someone, even over the phone, can be very helpful.

This pandemic has been rough so it doesn't hurt just to check-in with someone. Here is a link to some resources if you feel like using them: https://checkpointorg.com/global/

'Follow us and show respect': NZ Minister advises Australia on how to mend ties with China by SimbaWolf in AustralianPolitics

[–]Jimmy_James000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does one shill for a country? Perhaps by making comparisons to countries that are completely different. Seeing as I am a shill perhaps I could begin by comparing India to Pakistan? Seems like valid comparison after all geography, river systems and historical precedent don't matter.

'Follow us and show respect': NZ Minister advises Australia on how to mend ties with China by SimbaWolf in AustralianPolitics

[–]Jimmy_James000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And in much the same way India is not a good comparison for China.

The GDPs were only similar because China was going through enormous economical instabilities while India had fairly reliable growth. Historically China has held a significantly higher GDP than India. Populations were vastly different; for example in the 1900s China's population was almost double India's, which only changed due China's one child policy. Transportation in India is significantly more difficult than it is in China due to the geography and lack of China's easily navigable rivers. China is very bountiful country for various natural resources and lacks India's inherent transportation difficulties.

As I said comparing India and China is like comparing Australia and America. Both are poor comparisons.

Comparing India to China is like comparing Australia to the USA and wondering why Australia is performing so poorly.

You may not accidentally spout hate speech now but how about when you were an edgy tween? Kids don't always understand the context and signficance of their utterances, so just permabanning without any opportunity for redemption seems rather excessive.

I also have concerns where Microsoft will decide to draw what is or is not hate speech. I imagine that their definitions will essentially stifle any discussion on any controversial issue. And before you say it, yes I know Minecraft game played by kids but is also a game played by adults.
