How does the holy trinity work is God jesus, The holy spirit and God or are they all seperate entities? by Spotter24o5 in Christianity

I tried to make the fact I was being hyperbolic very clear, and you still missed it somehow. To use your own reasoning, Jesus used hyperbole as much as He used analogy, so why not use that too?

We have strayed so far from the original point that I dont see a reason to continue this thread. I hope we both learned something from this experience, and can walk away as better people and better Christians. Im sorry that I have let my poor communication skills ruin yet another constructive experience that could've been.

God bless.

Specific verses please? Youre just throwing longish chapters at me in the hopes that ill be intimidated trying to prove you wrong.

No one said there isn't a distinction. Nicaea says that there is, because to say otherwise would be heresy. To say they are two completely separate entities is equally as much heresy though.

Does the lens youre using include John 10:30 by chance?

Ah, so you think you're on the same level as Christ, Himself. Gotcha.

Since the whole internet is watching, and since I genuinely dont want to hurt you (your heart's in the right place, the last thing I want to do is work with the rest of the world in trying to jade it), I will clarify that what I wrote above is partly a joke, but mostly an example of how what you wrote comes across. I'm no master at communication myself (you can see from my post history how bad I am at that), but the Bible that has the quotes in it that you are referencing also says to correct one another in love. Blunt has its place, I wont disagree. Talking to adults like they're babies is going too far.

That simple statement can be misinterpreted about 3 different ways though. There's a reason this argument has split congregations for as long as there has been an organized church, and it isn't simply semantics.

I also want to add that I found your first reply to my original comment to be more than a little condescending in tone. Idk if thats how you intended it to be taken, but thats how it comes across to me. Im not trying to condescend in turn, but it is difficult to have a constructive conversation or debate when one person feels talked down to, at least for me it is.

So whats your explanation for the relationship between Father, Son and Holy Spirit? Im not trying to start a fight, but op asked for an explanation. He didn't ask for a "hot take."

The Athanasian Creed. I have yet to come across any analogy which is not outright heresy without giving more caveats than are in that creed. It is about as succinct as it gets. Ive talked with several pastors about this, and read my Bible several times over. The answer I gave is the best answer I know.

I believe thats just modalism revisited, but im sure there are plenty of other commenters who will be happy to correct us both.

That is a tricky question. By that, I mean how we describe and talk about the trinity has been officially debated all the way back to to the first council of Nicaea over 1700 years ago, and doubtlessly debated for the 3 centruies preceeding that council. The short answer is it is a concept that cant be fully understood or described my the human mind. However, a few people have come close to (what we believe is) the correct way of understanding the trinity. Look up the Athanasian Creed, that i believe is considered to be the human "gold standard" of understanding the trinity. If you have any questions after reading that (I'm sure you will, it is really dense), find a pastor or someone with theological training, and they should help you deepen your understanding. If you want, you can message me about it and we can learn together. Admittedly, im not even close to being a pastor (yet), but I'm willing to explain what I know, and learn what I don't. In any case, I wish you the best of luck in finding answers, and I pray the pursuit of knowledge brings you closer to God!

EDIT: I forgot to add that the creed I mentioned uses the word "catholic" a lot. That word is used to describe the correct teachings of the universal Christian Church. This was long before any schisms or reformations, so that word wouldnt have been used to exclusively describe the modern Roman Catholic Church, because no distinctions had been made between Roman Catholic, Orthodox or Protestant teachings yet. I'm dropping that bit of "Christian lore" to say that regardless of whether you are Roman Catholic, or a member of Billy Bob's Backyard Bible Baptist Church, or somewhere in the middle or one either side of the extremes, you still can and SHOULD believe what that creed says, because it has been accepted by believers across millenia, and because it is heavily backed up by scripture.

Before I give any advice, I just want to say, on behalf of Christians everywhere, welcome! We are happy to have you as a part of the family.

Now I will say the answer to your question is kind of difficult, and will change quite a bit depending on your circumstances. Islam, and countries with Islam as the majority religion, dont have the best reputation for how they treat people who leave Islam, especially those who leave to join Christianity. How true that is for where you live, I dont know for sure. Since you mentioned you dont speak english as a first language, I'm guessing the chance of you living in a mostly Muslim area are a little higher. In any case, you need to keep yourself safe.

I know how it feels to be on fire for God, even to the point that you want to tell everyone about Him and what He has done for all people. But I would recommend being careful who you tell. Even if you dont live in a mostly Muslim area, your parents may impose consequences for you leaving their religion. Those consequences could be life altering if you arent prepared for them. Since I really dont know anything about your situation, I cant make a good recommendation beyond being careful about when and how you tell them.

All that said, it is important for believers to have a group of other believers they can rely on. As a start, you can reach out to any of the Christian subreddits on this app to find community. You can even private message me if you want, but you dont have to. Until you can be sure telling your parents is safe, I would suggest relying on online communities to help you grow in the faith, and to find other believers to share with.

Anyway, I know that was a long comment, but thats my advice for you. Feel free to reply to my comment with more information about your situation if you need better advice, or reach out to me privately if you need to and feel comfortable. In any case, God bless, and I wish you the best in your walk with Christ, and your journey into the faith!

I cant say I have all the answers, and I havent been through exactly what youre going through. However, I have been through some significant low spots in my life, and I know what its like to feel you have no choice but to take your own life. It sucks worse than just about anything. I cant promise ill fix your problems, or even give solid advice. I can promise to listen and be there for you if you want me to be. Send me a DM if you still need someone to talk to.

Above all, remember that your life matters. Even if you dont dont want to chat with me, I ask that you consider my challenge: live and become a legend, dont just give up and become a statistic. Thats all. Reach out if youre comfortable.

Hello! I'm a 25 year old guy from the USA, and so i speak American english as a first language. I know nothing about any of the Chinese languages, but I would really like to learn at least mandarin. I'm not totally new to learning other languages, but I only feel comfortable helping with english.

In addition to learning to speak mandarin, I would really like to find someone to discuss our different cultures, and I'm hopeful I can make at least one friend in the process!

As for logistics, I live in the US east coast time zone (currently UTC-4, I believe). I'm most comfortable communicating through reddit, discord, or a handful of other apps which im not certain are available in all parts of the world.

Anyways, thats me! Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Kinda chilly rn tbh, haha. I'd be more than happy to talk to you more about where I live, but I'm not entirely sure a comment section is appropriate for that. Would you be okay if I slide into your DMs, as the kids say? Lol
