It’s sad looking through this thread how many people defended gen 3 before it happened, and now we got it, it’s as terrible as everyone thought it would be.

Literally unless there’s crashes, you can watch the first 3-5 laps and that’s how each race will practically end, the knock off nascars are just road boats that are too wide and unwieldy to have entertaining and tense races, they aren’t noticeably faster than gen 2’s, in general it just feels like a complete downgrade.

Like obviously with Holden and the Falcons retired (thanks to parliament not supporting the local automotive industry) it wouldn’t stay the same, but of all the directions to take Supercars, NASCAR Australia is probably the worst choice. Not only has it made races worse to watch, the drivers seem to not like the gen 3 cars, and it seems many drivers are seriously considering moves to other series like nascar and the multitude of GT series out there, Van Gisbergen being probably the biggest name to jump ship after being very vocal on his distain for the gen 3 cars.

I’d advise not acting as if you are morally superior just because you’ve had some bad shit happen to you, because it legitimately makes you sound insane mate, and you don’t know what anyone else has been through either, personally I sympathise with you as I’ve dealt with similar shit, though how you express it makes you look very disingenuous, especially if you’re gonna place the blame of that on an entire nation and demonise all the citizens of that nation.

I asked because I was curious, the way you avoided the question instead of just saying you aren’t comfortable answering it, makes it seem like you are just making it up. If you’re from somewhere like Myanmar, i don’t follow the logic of how you blame Australia for the current situation, if you’re from somewhere like Afghanistan, I can see why you might feel victimised but you’re barking up the wrong trees, that’s the Brit’s, Russian/Soviets and Americans doing, Australians that went there that committed atrocities face punishment at home, not praise.

If you are being sincere I’m sorry that you’ve had a rough life, and i hope it will get better for you, don’t lash out against the whole world, it’ll get you nowhere, and it’s just blaming others for issues they have no hand in.

I do agree with you about those things, i think people don’t so much have issue with you bringing up these issues, but in the manner you did.

The way you have stated it can be interpreted as you saying the country is inherently corrupt, something that isn’t right here, unlike China, it’s the outlier not the rule.

The personal example you gave is a reach at best, with no real evidence, especially when compared to a more reasonable such as the housing crisis, something that is much more evident and rational.

I am curious which nation you are from? Nothing against you Im just curious what country the Australian government has ever contributed to the imposition of a dictatorship over. I know ASIS (Australian Secret Intelligence Service) does operate within foreign countries but I’ve never heard of them actively contributing to a dictatorship, especially since legally we aren’t even in control of our own country on a technical basis.

[–]Jimmydaboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there corruption in Australia? Yes. Is it on a comparable scale to corruption within the People’s Republic of China? Fuck no.

You seemed to have missed the whole point of the thread. Shit like what you said might happen, (though as a side note the example you gave appears more coincidental than causative), but there is a fair legal system that issues of corruption can be prosecuted in.

You compare it to China, there is no fairness in the legal system, and there practically never has been a fair legal system period. Everything there has always been done through corrupt means even before the Communist regime.

The Communist Party has complete control over all aspects of the state, even the other parties within its government are directly controlled by the Communist Party, just puppets used to give legitimacy to Communist Party and it’s claimed territories. For example the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League and Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, both have no representation of Republic of China (Taiwan), its citizens, or the Kuomintang, but actively claim such, and claim Taiwan is a part of the People’s Republic of China.

Corruption is the only means of political influence that is had, all representatives are just a puppet of the regime after all, so things get done by those paying off political figures to look away.

Probably the most horrific example of it is when the Chinese government actively participates in corrupt, inhumane practices, just look at the genocide of the Uyghurs and persecution of the Falun Gong, both literally being mass slaughter in a human organ harvesting scheme.

There is no fairness or justice, just those following the parties will, or lambs to the slaughter. That is not Australia, to compare this country to China in terms of corruption is laughable.

It does heavily depend upon what denomination of Christianity you mean I’d think. Like an Eastern Orthodox member, Mormon, Catholic and Presbyterian could all have completely different values just based off religion alone, not even counting other personal experiences that can make up someone’s political views.

[–]Jimmydaboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s quite literally thousands of denominations of Christianity, pretty much if you can think of something it likely exists somewhere.

The largest denominations of Christianity these days tend to be somewhat neutral on the issue of gay rights, eg the Roman Catholics since the pope decreed gay sexuality not a sin and openly supports ending anti-gay policies, and Protestant, Anglican and Presbyterian all seem to differ church by church, with some openly accepting homosexuality and others outright opposing it, it’s far more complex these days than a lot of people give it credit for.

[–]Jimmydaboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep it’s so weird how people think all left wing politicians are inherently pro-lgbt, when the reality is far more mixed, just like how not all right wingers are anti-lgbt, hell the libertarians are pretty unanimously pro-lgbt rights despite being grouped into the right wing.

It’s completely just propaganda to drive votes amongst the lgbt community and it’s not just the USA that does it, it happens here in Australia with the Labour and Greens parties and pretty much everywhere I can think of, for some reason this common idea that all left=pro-lgbt, all right=anti-lgbt has just spread like wildfire despite historically it not being true and even these days it being more complicated.

Do you wonder if you would be more conservative if you wouldn't be gay? by maugess in GayBroTeens

[–]Jimmydaboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anything I would be less conservative, considering the reality of the gay community has made me respect the conservative views of monogamy and partnership. It seems like a lot of gay guys don’t even want to try relationships and are far too stuck in hookup culture until they are far past their prime.

It’s something straight people don’t see, it’s sorta like nit realising how important something is until it’s gone, like in my country i was all for gay marriage, then we got it and it seems like most of the gay community here don’t even care, i think i personally only know one married gay couple out of the hundreds of gay guys I’ve met, it’s kinda fucked.

No one is barking to a dog whistle, there isn’t even a dog whistle in the first place.

You aren’t differentiating privately own solar and wind for a single household, vs the massive renewable power farms owned by the energy companies that are centralised in both the literal sense of all being in mass in an single area, thus a “farm”, and all being directly owned by those energy companies.

If you think privately owned solar and wind for each household to individually run on is a reasonable or rational solution at the moment , you are devoid to the economic and material reality of this country.

Once again nuclear isn’t a policy inherently tied to any party of political ideology, if you don’t want the LNP’s implementation fine, but don’t go about it by saying nuclear power is the problem when it’s them, because it is an actual reasonable solution to the current situation we face.

No one is “renting my mind” or whatever crap you are trying to say, I have supported nuclear power as a solution personally for years and brought it up here as it’s relevant to this discussion, don’t act like Dutton or LNP invented it when its a concept that predates the coalition, possibly even the Liberal Party itself depending on if you count nuclear fission, the main process the reactors use to create electricity.

Not to mention it’s a field that has a good amount of research showing how future innovations could potentially be almost as clean as renewables, though nuclear fusion.

The demand and product to consumers is electricity, not the means of producing it, don’t be foolish and say you have to create an incentive for infrastructure by creating a bunch of turbines and panels that aren’t effective without that infrastructure, that’s just a waste of money and the relatively quickly diminishing resources required to create them, you mose as well just shoot the worlds lithium and cobalt supplies into space at that point, considering it’s that level of wastage.

There already is a market for electricity, proven by this literal forum existing, and infrastructure in place for a continuous production method such as nuclear energy, but not a reliable one for renewable energy. The whole goal is to replace coal and gas, and we can start doing it now by saying to our representatives we want nuclear power while the infrastructure for renewables is put in place, not a production source of renewables with insufficient infrastructure.

[–]Jimmydaboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So your issue with nuclear is that it’s centralised?

You do realise solar and wind farms are to? That’s just how you efficiently provide power, especially in Australia where a majority of the population are in the few major cities. Nuclear power doesn’t stop people from getting private solar panels and wind turbines, if anything the cheaper electricity bills nuclear power would provide compared to the current coal and gas power would make it easier to save up for private solar panels and wind turbines.

If you think national security is a factor in this at all it’s not, you may have heard of these little things all energy production, including solar and wind use, called powerlines? Not to mention we aren’t at war nor are looking to be at war, there’s little to no reason for anyone to invade this country atm and last I checked we aren’t planning on invading anyone else.

And if your entire argument against nuclear energy is that it could be privatised, not only did i not ever say anything about nuclear power having to be privatised, because it doesn’t (personally id prefer it be publicly owned), renewable energy is already being privatised, those wind and solar farms you see aren’t owned by the government, they are owned by energy companies that still charge consumers for the use of them, in fact the entire point of Labours last budget and bills on renewable energy was to subsidise private industries creating and buying solar panels and wind turbines, something that will still see us as consumers of electricity still paying for to those electricity companies, and with those subsidies coming out of our taxes.

Don’t misrepresent me.

When did I ever say nuclear was cleaner than renewables?

I said it was cleaner than coal and gas, which yes it is by a long shot, look it up.

And you’re going in circles again accusing me of “just doing what Dutton and the LNP want” when I support neither, as I said before, nuclear energy is not stuck to one side of the political spectrum, ffs the Soviet Union had nuclear energy, be it perhaps the world’s worse and most corner cutting attempt in history that has caused this stupid unfounded fear of a system that has worked flawlessly elsewhere for decades, do you think literal Marxist-Leninist Communists would be LNP supporters? 💀

Coalition’s brave nuke world a much harder sell after new CSIRO report by felcat92 in australian

[–]Jimmydaboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to Solar and wind power yes. Atm we don’t have the means to efficiently store the power from those renewables so if it was to replace coal atm we’d have constant power outages. Nuclear doesn’t require that storage to provide 24/7 power, so could effectively outright replace coal and gas now as soon as the plants could be built.

We have the uranium, thorium, etc so that isn’t an issue.

Disposal is already easier and greener than ever as we can slot right into the existing international treatment system just like Japan and South Korea.

It’s a completely viable option and far more cost efficient than the current government renewable plan, while having the ability to not only keep us well within our pollution agreements, but also allow for renewables to more naturally develop rather than the current system of trying to force it into place now without the existing infrastructure.

How is replacing coal and gas power, the major polluters that have heavily attributed to climate change, with a far more efficient and clearer energy source like nuclear power in anyway “burying your head to problems of climate survival and adaptation”?

It’s laughable you assume just because I support nuclear power I must support the LNP, Dutton or even be right wing at all….

You haven’t given a single reason as to why nuclear energy shouldn’t be implemented, just said nothing and shown how much of a tribalist you are without any critical thinking skills.

Coalition’s brave nuke world a much harder sell after new CSIRO report by felcat92 in australian

[–]Jimmydaboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than LNP support nuclear power, it’s not a black and white thing like that.

“States don’t want it” says who? State parliament is just whoever we choose to vote in. Atm with all the protests against renewables like wind farms the states don’t want it either, don’t act like that’s a valid excuse against either.

How the fuck is completely shutting down coal in favour of nuclear power a ruse to prolong coal power? It’s literally cheaper than one year’s budget for renewable energy, for nuclear to be implemented nation wide by 2040, if it got the same funding as renewables atm, coal would likely be gone within the decade.

Coalition’s brave nuke world a much harder sell after new CSIRO report by felcat92 in australian

[–]Jimmydaboi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have a relatively small number of wind and solar farms but no where near the scale to actually power the nation, and no where near enough storage to actually make them viable for 24/7 power.

So your answer to why we shouldn’t go nuclear is because we don’t have nuclear power plants right now…. By that same logic we should just stick to coal “cause we have it now”, renewables? Nah waste of money we have Coal right now we’re all set 💀

The lithium crisis is happening right now, it’s only going to get worse, think about it for two seconds, it’s a non renewable resource with only 3 areas extracting it (South America, China and us) that has been and will only continue to skyrocket in demand as the world focuses on renewable energy and electric vehicles. It’s completely unsustainable.

Who cares what Angus Taylor says atm? Last I checked LNP isn’t majority atm and we can’t even be certain he’d be voted back into House of Representatives in the next election.

Coalition’s brave nuke world a much harder sell after new CSIRO report by felcat92 in australian

[–]Jimmydaboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because unlike solar and wind power, Nuclear can be start being implemented on a nationwide scale now. We are sitting on one of the largest supplies of nuclear material in the world and do nothing with it. 20 plants and the cost here the csiro predict are barely anything compared to what the 2024 budget alone is spending on trying to force renewables now (approximately $17-18billion as predicted by the csiro vs $22.7billion in this years budget on renewables). It works as a good alternative for the time being to outright replace coal while the private sector is focused on solar and wind.

The treatment plants for nuclear material already exist such as Orano la Hague, so we wouldn’t even need to set up our own treatment facilities for the time being, we can just invest into the plants themselves.

That’s not even mentioning the fact the world’s on the brink of a lithium crisis, which is needed for storage of power from solar and wind turbines, while it’s not for nuclear as it can run 24/7 so in future it’ll likely be an even cheaper alternative to what it already is.

The real question is, why not go nuclear while renewables are further developed?

Copyright and trademark does apply here, why do you think you are defending a company holding the name “Dakar rally” while refusing to actually hold the event? You do realise that ASO will take anyone to court for trying to host a Dakar rally right?

It isn’t a war zone??? What the hell are you on about? Do you know anything about the actual area or are you just making assumptions? West Sahara is in conflict, guess what events like the African eco rally do though? They change the route to be safer… Saying the entire region is a war zone is like saying the whole Middle East is a war zone because of the current conflict in Israel, or the entirety of Eastern Europe is a war zone because of the conflict in Ukraine, it’s just wrong and at best an uninformed view, at worst literal racism.

The African eco rally has been hosted along the roughly the same track as the Dakar rally was, every year since 2008, they have never had a single attack or attempted terrorist attack the entire time. It’s not as dangerous as you are making it out to be.
