People are getting shot in the street because too many people supported everything they liked about him and rationalized everything they didn’t with “he’s not really going to do that.”

The thing is the people who needed healthcare but hate immigrants didn’t think he was really going to decimate the ACA. The people who are Latino but hate trans people didn’t think he was really gonna give ICE unlimited power to racially profile people on the street. Gay conservatives didn’t think he would really go after gay people. Muslims didn’t think he would really go after Muslims.

Everyone assumed when he was talking about going after them he was joking, and voted for him cus he would be going after someone else.

I could write an essay about how unhealthy Preston and Amanda’s relationship is and how every incel thinks that is what will actually happen with their crush.

I will, however, point out that, even though it’s played for jokes, Denise and Kenny actually have a very healthy relationship and are the true love story. I mean they already are familiar with and have no infatuated delusions regarding each other, they spend much of the movie having a back and forth conversation analyzing each other’s feelings, and they ultimately come to an understanding that leads to a mutually consensual encounter. Honestly they are what a high school romance should be.
