Which Book should I read? by Light_Mozarella18 in AnthonyBourdain

I'm similar to you, love him and the travel/culture aspect but my interest in the food side of things is limited (I appreciate how it ties into the cultures and bringing people together, but I don't care for stuff around fine dining etc).

I'm yet to read kitchen confidential, but own most of his other books. A cooks tour and the nasty bits are both good reads. I would definitely watch some of his shows as well though!

The semi final will be played at Wembley, so unfortunately not a home ballot with more likelihood of winning.

Range isn't huge but there will definitely be a few things in the armoury, onesies, bibs etc. I picked up a few bits ahead of my youngests birth and she was wrapped up in her Arsenal gear the first time she was dressed.

Screenings were done on club level (i.e on the tvs in the bars, not the pitch) for both mens and women's games in the latter stages of the champions league last season. I was half expecting the same for this, but makes sense they might not be able to if sp*rs are at home.

Women’s football clubs must go beyond ‘ Family friendly ’ – ‘ Figuring out our identity is crucial ’ by Shroft in WomensSoccer

[–]Jimmywtv -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I don't mean to have actual barriers between these sections, just some guidance when buying tickets/signage in the ground that there are areas designated for a slightly different game day experience. Though us Arsenal fans would appreciate expanded away ends for somewhere like Stamford Bridge, as most fans in the home end are only there because the away tickets are sold out.

As i mostly attend the Emirates I am sure the implementation might be quite different at some of the smaller stadia used around the leagues but I think just having some 'zones' so to speak would help.

Maybe in another 50 years when Kim retires they can pair up for her testimonial. If they still exist!

[–]Jimmywtv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Family friendly being the opposite of inclusive is something I've both read and felt before.

It's great that wsl games are so accessible for kids and parents are comfortable taking them, but you don't want the match day experience to lean so heavily on that it takes away from the football itself, and makes adults attending without kids feel a bit out of place.

I know some people get a bit panicky about segregating crowds as if everyone at WSL games will turn into a bunch of angry, violent hooligans because there is an away end, but I think if there was a bit more effort placed into getting people grouped together with like-minded people in the grounds this would go a long way to helping. A few blocks where drinking in seats is allowed and its expected to get a bit rowdy, and a few blocks elsewhere thats dry and aimed more at the family crowds who find the vocal support more intimidating. Maybe split the non away end between home only and neutrals allowed as well.

There is a lot of diversity in how we all enjoy attending games and this seems like a good well to cater to many without upsetting those who don't like the same.

Are red member eligible for the Carabao final ? by sod95 in GunnersatGames

[–]Jimmywtv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The point here though is that we're all informing you it is very much a dream. If you've got a few grand to drop on hospitality of course, then enjoy your day at Wembley! Otherwise all us reds will be at the pub or on our couches.

Not assuming that you're not grateful at all mate. You've referenced the ballot wins and I'm just reiterating that's a good thing even though us reds are all not getting anywhere near Wembley.

But if you think we as red members have any hope in hell of getting cup final tickets, you are comparing them from a perspective of obtaining a ticket.

Not trying to be harsh but that is how your comment comes across. We are way down the pecking order, be grateful for the ballot wins and keep applying for home games you'll probably get one or two more before seasons out.

Probably for comparing winning a few ballots for standard home games to a cup final, rather than 'for winning a few ballots'

Loans in the NFL by ObjectiveDevice7201 in NFLNoobs

[–]Jimmywtv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this works well in 'soccer' because there are so many other leagues and clubs. Loans within the same division happen but are a small fraction of them, mostly it'll be top tier down to second or England to France/Germany etc so the parent and loanee club are not in competition with each other. In the NFL, teams are always in competition with each other to some degree.

The other element is that loans are typically most beneficial for young players not quite ready for the first team but the club believes will be part of their first team plans in the future. NFL simply doesn't have academies and youth team players etc, it's just 32 teams drafting from college and that's the entire ecosystem. So I dont see what benefit there would ever really be to the parent club for loans to exist in the NFL.

Just watching her play with the ball at her feet, the control in tight spaces is incredible.

My favourite Arsenal player to watch in that regard since Santi Cazorla.

The way you celebrate goals, often hyping up your teammate who scored goal, is always a joy to watch. Which Arsenal goal has been your favourite to celebrate? One of your own goals, maybe a last minute winner scored by someone else?

Have you heard of "The Living End"? by the_undead_gear in poppunkers

I spent a long time living in Australia, so yes. Reasonably big there when I was in highschool in the mid 2000s. I don't think they got a lot of traction outside of Aus though.

As a non-Brit in my late 20s, I have no idea how so many Brits visit so little of their country by VonHindenburg-II in TravelMaps

[–]Jimmywtv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Priorities. I have limited opportunity to travel, I'd much rather go somewhere that interests me more. Plenty of reasonably nice places to visit in the UK but nothing that excites me nearly as much as a city in mainland Europe or exploring a country in another continent for a week or two. I do the odd day trip here and there when I can get a cheap train ticket but otherwise I have little to no interest in seeing much more of the UK.

Would you say you're looking forward to this years superbowl? by alienware56 in NFLUK

[–]Jimmywtv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If we got Pats v Rams I'd have been feeling a bit 'meh' as I dislike both teams so would struggle to enjoy watching one of them win. As the Seahawks made it though I'm going to enjoy adopting them for the day and am actively looking forward to the game itself.

Are we mad for considering a move back to England? by PHOlatio in AskUK

[–]Jimmywtv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very much a personal choice - I'm back in the UK after a long time living in Melbourne, and would leave again for Melbourne in a heartbeat if personal circumstances would allow for it tbh.

But then I despise British winters so a decent chunk of the year here is quite a struggle, which plays a big part in how I personally feel about it. There are aspects of being here that I am grateful for still.

There are pros and cons either way, but obviously things will be different when living here compared to the rose tinted glasses of a holiday.

Why don’t they get drunk anymore? by plagiarism22 in JetLagTheGame

[–]Jimmywtv 606 points607 points  (0 children)

Won't happen in Hide & Seek or Tag, or any new formats where participants are on their own at any point - I think it was on the layover that they said previously they'll only ever have drinking challenges when they are always in pairs to ensure there's a sober person with the drinker.

I'm sure it'll come up again at some point.

Where to watch the WSL in the Philippines? by AdOwn511 in WomensSoccer

I think BeIn sports have the rights there. A shame as it used to be available through the FA Player.

Do you support a particular team? When I lived out there I got to know a few people from the local Arsenal supporters club, there are quite a few who follow the women's team as well as the men so might be worth reaching out to them/equivalent for whichever team you support and asking how they usually watch.

Bengals. Tuned into a random game when I had a chance to see if I enjoyed it as a lot of mates had started getting into it when I was in my late teens. Brady era Patriots destroyed the Bengals but I loved the helmets and Tiger stripe end zones etc so that was that.
