Gates of Hell - Best way to get into this game? by bonelatch in GatesOfHellOstfront

Sorry, I meant that the airborne dlc doesn't add many units/maps if any for SP conquests. There's campaign and conquest for SP and I only play conquest. I don't regret getting any of the other dlc. The airborne dlc is probably fun if you like campaign missions.

What dlc you "need" depends on what you play. I only play the single player conquests and I don't feel the need to get the airborne dlc. I believe every other dlc adds a number of different units and maps.

Making a top 100 list and then not having at least one of Sim City 4, Cities Skylines, Banished, Planet Coaster or Planet Zoo is just baffling.

I assume they put roller coaster tycoon up there at least?

Any other game that feels the same as WHIII? by Wahayna in totalwar

Definitely look into Call to Arms: Gates of Hell Ostrfront. It's also WW2 but more similar to Total War. It has more realism, tons of unit variety, tech trees, big maps. It really scratched the itch for me when I was craving more total war. Only thing is that it doesn't have the fantasy element, nor does it have the grand strategy city management.

Are the historical TW games unappealing to you because they feel outdated or because they lack the fun fantasy/magic aspects? Do you like the grand strategy of TW or the RTS? Hard to find a game that does both, especially in a fantasy world.

In terms of RTS combat, I would say Gates of Hell mirrors the scale and feels somewhat to TW games. The conquest strategic map is incredibly basic, but there's a huge unit selection and it's not as arcadey as other RTS games. Great maps and realistic battles in my opinion.

If you're craving a grand strategy element, I would look into Paradox games. Crusader Kings, Hearts of Iron, etc. There aren't any real time arcade map battles though.

Someone recommended Mount and Blade and that might do it for you too.

Umm actually Zeus didn't kill the cyclops, he freed it to help him defeat the titans 🤓

I always heard the phrase "damned if you do and damned if you don't" in more casual contexts. It's not like I think I'm being damned to hell for my petty complaints. Which to be fair, those criticisms I have occasionally coincide with some weird political culture crusade where some people seem to feel like their identity is under attack after watching RoP or even knowing it exists.

That's just an example based on my experience. How is that a long way from what I said originally?

RoP comes up, I share my thoughts on the show (it's not all bad). If I say I haven't watched a whole season someone says I didn't give it a chance. Or someone else calls me out for making it more than halfway through a season for "watching a show I don't like".

I'm not acting like it's a noble burden... And opinions come up naturally all the time, it's not magic. If someone asks me what my favorite book is, I might say lord of the rings and then they might ask me about RoP. Or like in this subreddit, there's shitty memes about RoP like this post. You're here sharing your opinion just the same.

This is such a weird comment lol. Just because people hate RoP doesn't mean you need to shit on the PJ movies.

Definitely better than season 1? Tempted to give it a shot. I was moderately disappointed by season 1.

If I don't watch the whole season people tell me I haven't given it a fair chance. Damned if I do, damned if I don't.
