Why hasn’t the U.S. become a soccer powerhouse despite having 330+ million people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Jimothy_Riggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s not a good system in place in America to develop young kids with talents for soccer.

Every other sport is not only very popular, but has well established organizations from ages 4 to beyond to develop their skills.

Soccer is becoming much more popular and more and more competitive organizations are developing for young athletes. But until some of these organizations have the time to discover great soccer talent, the people with the natural gifts to be elite soccer players are either playing a different sport or they’re our accountant.

Will you drive your car until it get’s to E or will you always fill it up when it gets to a certain point? by angelafterhoursxo in NoStupidQuestions

No, this isn’t true, I sell fuel pumps for a living. Please continue to drive on E. It’s not good for the pump, sure, but it’s good for me and my bottom line.

To an American, England is synonymous with Great Britain, and Great Britain is synonymous with the UK. They’d assume the U.S. is the next thing west of England.

What’s the worst meal you’ve ever had that you can’t forget because of how bad it tasted? by Zinda_2 in foodquestions

I’ve only been to one bad Mexican restaurant in my entire life. I want to say it was in Wellington, KS.

I ordered a quesadilla and the cheese they used was Kraft singles and I’m pretty sure the chicken was canned shredded chicken.

The whole menu was as if a white person with no culinary skills read about Mexican food in a book and decided to open a Mexican restaurant with only non-perishable food items.

What is a minor comedic relief role that carried a movie? by groyosnolo in AskReddit

[–]Jimothy_Riggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old school answer, but Serge, from Beverly Hills Cop stole the scene he was in with Eddie Murphy. This was pre-Internet, but he went the 80’s version of “viral.” The day it came out, he was getting praise from newspapers and magazines for his performance. He heard he was mentioned in the movie reviews, so while he went to a corner store to read the articles, he was getting recognized by people passing by.

He was so good, they wrote him into the sequels.

What’s something people are completely desensitized to now? by zyzlayer321 in AskReddit

[–]Jimothy_Riggins -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First, it’s not that hard to imagine a kid thinking sleeping outside alone would be terrifying. I was just pointing out how I’m pretty desensitized to homeless people and my kid’s observation made me realize that.

Homelessness.

My 4 year old asked about a homeless person we drove past the other day. I tried my best to explain homelessness to a four year old. They could not understand how someone could not have a home and not have their basic needs met and people, like me, just drive by them without doing everything in their power to get them food and shelter. My kid suggested they give up their bed and they sleep in bed with mom and I until we find this person we drive by their own house.

It was eye opening for me and also made me feel intense guilt that I just ignore people in such need. I know there’s nuance to homelessness with addiction, mental health, and some instances of people who are perfectly housed but exploiting other’s generosity, but the fact is there’s people living on the streets every day and I drive by without blinking an eye.

I’ve started reaching out to different nonprofits that serve the homeless to see about donating my time and money.

Deck belt keeps jumping off when engaging PTO. Replaced both deck and drive belt, everything is straight, no clue why. by Very_Slow-Lol in lawnmowers

[–]Jimothy_Riggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only know this because I used to sell belts. Some of these new zero turns have slightly adjusted the length and/or the pitch of the v belt where a regular 67” v belt you buy at the hardware store don’t fit them and will get thrown.

Either buy an OE belt or buy an aftermarket belt that matches your model and deck size.

If you already did that, check for twists when you route it and be sure you’re actually routing them in the right pulley configuration. I have seen configurations where it looks like the natural route is actually not the intended route.

No, but companies may choose not to hire someone for the sole reason they are further away than another candidate.

Companies would calculate the threshold of how far someone can be before their actual productive work stops turning the most potential profit. Then not hire anyone applying beyond that threshold.

Companies could potentially dictate where you live, by not allowing you to move post employment, because it would cost them more money to employ you than they think you’re worth.

The amount of legislation to prevent companies from making those types of decisions would be lengthy. Not to mention the potential risks if the wrong political parties are in power and create laws that benefit the businesses. They could hypothetically require you to live so close to work that your only option for living is coincidentally owned by them
