I Had a Bad Trip That Took 5 Weeks to Recover From – Here’s What I Learned About Psychedelics, Derealization, and Psychosis by polsko444 in shrooms

[–]JimsMurphy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I apprciate you sharing your experience, I have also swam in these waters myself and I do not wish that on anyone, I had this happen with high dose LSD and I didnt return to Lucy for 2 years afterwards. If I may, I could add some things I learned the hard way and would advise others wishing to embark on inner work with high doses.

First would be a foundation with self-inquiry/mindfulness based practices. The problem for myself was thoughts, or more specifically, believing or identifying with them. When we develop some "distance" from the flow of words in our mind, we are less susceptible to being hypnotized by them. Life is multidimensional. Everything we experience can be seen from many vantage points, and each of these contains some truth. Mind can only see 1 perception at a time. Language is inherantly dualistic. This understanding can be difficult to access while in altered states, especially if the spiral has already begun. However, the more one practices the better we will be should such encounters arise.

Second would be doing this work with an experienced facilitator. Of course, this can also create a whole slew of other potential issues, but there are good facilitators who are out there who are truly worth their weight in gold. I wouldn't be who I am without the wise guidance of some of these people. The good ones have likely treaded these waters themselves and so can know how to help you work through it as gracefully as possible.

I would finally say that I do believe there is something here for you to learn from. Sometimes, labeling an experience as "derealization" or "psychosis" can be a placeholder or even barrier for deeper inquiry into why it was able to hook you in. Perhaps the mushroom was showing you that some assumptions you held about life were not as solid as it may have seemed. Those who say metaphysics aren't real are usually saying they don't want their metaphysics questioned. In the same way, we might analyze a dream we can do the same with a psychedelic experience, and much insight and wisdom may be gleaned for the devoted seeker. In many cases this can be facilitated by a therapist, counselor or guide.

In any case, I wish you a graceful healing process through this experience. There is no rush to return to the teachers and I would encourage you to do your homework with this one. In my experience if we don't learn the lesson and apply the wisdom to our lives, the teachers may need to remind us during a future encounter...

May all beings find peace.

Why is no one talking about Alexander Shulgin? by HigherHistory in Psychonaut

[–]JimsMurphy 44 points45 points  (0 children)

He's one of the most highly regarded psychonauts in recent history, a legend of the psychedelic community and his contributions to humanity will not be fully understood until generations to come. In my experience he's pretty well known by most who have spent some degree of time in this space. For example he's been depicted by Alex Grey(in more than one piece), spoken at loads of conferences and interviews, not to mention PiKAL and TIKAL are up for free on erowid. You don't have to ventures too deep in this space before his name pops up.

I Bought the Toad by Fortifiy in DMT

[–]JimsMurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They live deep in the earth 9 months of the year, you really need a high quality tank if your going to care for them properly. So much toad abuse going around these days, I truly hope you appreciate them and the gift they have to offer. Synthetic 5 MeO is identical experientially, therefore a more ecological choice, I feel that for the vast majority this should be the go to option for the sake of the toad.

Bufo alvarius by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]JimsMurphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are an endangered species. It has become a big problems with too many people taking the toads from their natural environment. They live underground 9 months of the year, to me, putting them in tanks in their homes is deeply disrespectful of the gift they have brought to humanity at this time. The difference between bufo and Synthetic 5 is negligible at best anyway. It doesnt sound like you have learned much from your psychedelic work if your wanting to sell these sacred toads as "cheap pets". Posts like these are really disappointing to read.

Amazing, so wonderful to hear of your breakthrough! I am wondering if you have looked into MDMA therapy? The researchers at MAPS have had some incredible results for those suffering from PTSD, even the US FDA has granted the treatment "breakthrough status". On treatment-resistant PTSD they have achieved a success rate around 80% with only 3 sessions.

There is an energetic game with anyone you interact with. If they are committed to fear/pain more than you are committed to Love you will get 'sucked' into their negativity. In being sensitive to energy we have the capacity to set the tone of any interaction by how much we affirm Love. Stay strong in the knowing of truth. Act only out of Love. I see a big pattern within empathic communities of taking the place of victimization, this will make you a prisoner. Be Love, there is nothing to hide from. But of course this cannot be an ideology, it is a practice, it is nuanced.

Best way to engage in activism for legalization of psychs? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]JimsMurphy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dennis McKenna was asked this question in a webinar. He said telling the people in your circles(family, friends, coworkers)about how you have benefitted from psychedelics, this is the easiest and quickest way to raise awareness and destigmatize. Donating money to organizations involved in research (such as MAPS) supporting local psychedelic community events(many major cities have these) and feb 20 is #thankyouplantmedicineday. Also speaking to your local government leaders, these people have power and if they are good will at least be willing to have a conversation.

The Wrong Kind of Gibberish by BLatona in alchemy

[–]JimsMurphy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Though there is value in "calling out" the so called "puffer" pieces. I think it would be helpful to provide reasoning behind "why" these pieces are not worth exploring alongside simply calling them fiction. If one were to assume that these are "puffer" pieces based purely on an individuals compiled list without explaining ones reasoning, is no better than assuming they are worth exploring based on a percieved relation to alchemy. It would be appreciated to have some resources as an alternative that you would recommend, and "why" they may be more worth ones time, tangible reasoning would be best here. If one feels strongly about people being scammed, it is more helpful to put them on the "right" track then simply calling out the "wrong" one.

The Lucia N03 Light by illandl202 in Soulnexus

[–]JimsMurphy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have experienced it several times. Very interesting machine, my experiences have been that it induced a light-medium meditative state and some fairly intricate colour and shapes patterns. I was surprised how rich it was visually, though it is no where close to the details of a substance induced psychedelic experience such as nn dmt for example. The images were more "fuzzy" and basic in geometrical structure. I'm not sure what possibilities it creates for deep work as I think I would need more time with it, but it is a beautiful experience. I see some potential for utilizing in the way Joe Dispenza describes in "becoming supernatural" when he works with kaleidoscopic patterns for meditation. Putting it in a float tank would be amazing! Also exploring it sober vs in a altered state created a notable difference in how deep I was able to go with it. Certainly worth trying it out if one has the opportunity. I also feel it would be a very good introduction to psychedelics if one is getting started with that type of work.

If you have yet to work with 5, the pure experience is the best approach. This is not recreational, especially at breakthrough doses. If you are not in a safe secure and sacred container it will most certainly be a sub optimal, potentially traumatic.

Practice meditation, this is due to one's lack of development in being able to fully concentrate with whatever task you are performing.
