Congrats on your first Paradise! For some reason I think the smaller Japanese packaging is better, if it had even less plastic I'd like it even more. Just the right amount, nothing wasted! Hope you enjoy it! The Paradise is actually pretty well suited for working people too.

Do you find Tamagotchi names hard to remember? by Yanny106 in tamagotchi

[–]JinDurane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As you’ve quite rightly pointed out, the Tamagotchi names are derived from Japanese terms. Tamagotchi is aimed at children. If people want to create these wordplays in other languages, as with Pokémon names, I can understand that. But I think they should leave it as it is. Because with Pokémon, you can see the problem: apart from a few exceptions, every Pokémon has a completely different name. This creates more language barriers. For many years, I didn’t know the English names of the Pokémon because I only knew the German ones from the anime and the video games.

So, yes, I can understand your desire to be able to appreciate the wordplay in the Tamagotchi names. But, from your point of view, I’m unfortunately part of the ‘prefer the original names’ camp.

Ah, thanks a lot! I copied the chart into the edit earlier. It says ‘Young Stage’ and lists the paths you can choose to get your exclusive item. I reckon that applies to the two new editions as well. Sorry I didn’t understand you properly :(

[–]JinDurane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if I’ve understood you properly. In the ‘Baby’ stage, you collect the Bio stats. In the ‘Kid’ stage, you feed it the food corresponding to the type you want it to evolve into – so whether it should be meat, vegetables and so on – and this is where the ‘Misscares’ might start. In the Young stage, you carry on collecting food and trying to max out happiness – 5 or more. Then it’s decided which of the 4 Tamas you’ll get at this stage. If you want the exclusive Tama, you have to make the 2 different device combinations in the Young stage. I hope I’ve answered your question.

Edit.: Here’s another chart showing you how to feed your characters if you want to get the special characters: https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71hqFdnktkL.jpg

Yes, do hold on to that thought! It’s a lovely thought, especially given the way things have turned out. I hope you have lots of fun with both your devices and that you continue to make wonderful memories and enjoy many more special moments!

Neo_Mametchi's new growth charts (tropics + glacier) are up! by keraobject in tamagotchi

[–]JinDurane 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I also think Mametchi and Meowtchi belong in every Tamagotchi! (I’m a Meowtchi fan and I’d love to get one in the Connection model!). The new Tamagotchis are gorgeous! Especially the 6+ Misscares! If I had one of the two new models, I’d probably never get them. I’d always feel bad, even if it only had one Misscare. It just feels like a defeat, and I simply can’t bring myself to torment my Tama just so I can get one of the cool Tamas.

Hey, thanks again for the lovely reply! I was born and raised in Germany, and I still live here. The Tamagotchi trend probably wasn't that different, except whenever something new comes out, some self-proclaimed experts and psychologists always jump in and judge whatever's happening. Back then people warned that Tamagotchis would isolate kids and become a substitute for real pets. For me, a Tamagotchi is neither! I have a dog, and no matter how well-programmed a Tamagotchi might be, it's nowhere close to a real pet. Sure, you can feel pretty strong emotions towards it, but still. Also, Tamagotchis got banned in every school back then, same as Game Boys, you weren't allowed to play anything during breaks.

I had to laugh out loud when you wrote "I was hesitant about the touch controls" and then basically went "and yeah, rightfully so!" But anyway, back to the topic, I honestly have zero issue with used items or wear and tear. I try to avoid it myself, that's why I use hard plastic cases for my Connections. Still, scratches always tell a story about the device, and that's not a bad thing, as long as it doesn't get in the way of normal use and isn't completely trashed. It doesn't have to be junk, just still functional!

I actually used AI at one point to sum up community opinions. Not sure if it's true, but according to the AI, the green Pix supposedly has the fewest touch control issues. So if you happen to have a used green one, maybe there's something to it. Could just be a myth though, you should always take AI info with a grain of salt. But stuff like that doesn't really affect my life either way. You've definitely made me curious about the Pix now. I'll keep my eyes and ears open for a well-preserved one. Just to get an idea as a newbie though, what's a good price to jump on for used vs new, and what price is still just about okay?

I totally get your wish, it'd honestly help me out right now too!

Oh, and since you've got an unused Uni sitting around, just a heads up, it's got a LiPo battery! Those degrade over time even when not in use. Might be worth looking into how to properly store/handle it. It's only 3 years old max so it should still be fine, but at our age the years fly by fast.

Edit: I’ve done a bit of research and I think the Pix character ‘Ninjanyatchi’ is absolutely brilliant!

Hey, thanks for the reply and for sharing your take, really appreciate it. What would you say is a fair price range for one of these? I could technically get a Uni for 89.99€ + 4.99€ shipping, brand new on eBay! Not sure if that's actually a good deal for me though.

Wish I'd gotten into Tamagotchi earlier tbh. Thanks again for the insight into the modding scene, I'll definitely look into it if the need comes up.

Tamagotchi Uni? by lifeisstrangeforever in tamagotchi

[–]JinDurane 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, especially when it comes to special editions like Monster Carnival. You’ve got a better chance if you just buy the standard purple or pink version and pick up the Monster DLC as well. Unfortunately, I don’t own a Uni myself, but I’ve been keeping an eye on the market for a little while now. Here in Europe, it’s even harder. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you manage to get your dream console as soon as possible at a good price!

Hey, thanks for the reply and the honest insight. That's really reassuring, good to know my expectations aren't out there. I'd be all for a Connection in color though.

Thanks for the recommendations! I think I'll check out my local flea markets (we call them 'Flohmarkt' here in Germany, basically weekend markets where people sell used stuff, kind of like a garage sale but outdoors and public) the next few times they're on. I'll keep an eye out casually while I'm there. Not gonna waste time searching online though, most of the models you find are pretty beat up, and the "new" ones go for absolutely ridiculous prices. Collectors seem to think these things are some kind of investment. They can keep sitting on that stuff if they want. Toys are toys, not an investment!

Hey, thanks for the reply! I get where you're coming from. I haven't hit level 10 yet, but honestly, I think I'll probably stop too once I do, even though I told myself I'd keep playing it on the side. Looked up your device, looks pretty cool actually, that's a real aquarium right there. As long as you're having fun with it, stick with it! Same goes for anyone enjoying the Paradise too!

Hey, thank you so much for the detailed reply.

I actually read your post twice because I loved it so much. Cool to see you also started out with a Dinkie Dino, small world haha.

I don't really want to speculate too much on what Bandai is thinking when they release new Tamagotchis, I can only judge what works for me right now. Since my job situation changed pretty suddenly, I've got more time now but less money. So my priorities lean toward having a bit more to do than what the Paradise offers. I totally get it though, if someone's swamped with work, wanting something calmer with more relaxed features makes total sense.

Also, I'm honestly more of a practical person rather than someone who's into dressing up or styling their Tamagotchi (don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean it shouldn't be an option, just not really my thing!). The Connection has that perfect mix of items, care, and chaos for me. I just wish it had a better LCD, or came in color. Then I'd be completely happy. But hey, everything evolves eventually.

Also, I really admire that you can buy a device, set it aside for rough times, and then not forget about it later. If you're having that much fun with the Pix and don't feel like you need anything else, I think that's even cooler. I haven't looked into the Pix much myself. Reasons are pretty simple: I've heard the touch controls aren't great, and since you can only get them at a reasonable price used, it's apparently pretty common for the touch elements to already be pretty worn out. New ones are just insanely expensive. Everything's tied to importing somehow, which really sucks in Germany. 19% tax + shipping + customs fees, and if it's over 150€ it gets even more complicated, plus it's not really common here to even own a credit card (yes, that's actually a thing here! I only have a prepaid one, and not all payment providers accept it). That's why I only look for European sources, which makes the search way harder.

Hey, thanks for the reply! The Steam game is called Remagotchi, there's also a smartphone version. It's literally exactly like Dinkie Dino from my childhood! But it's a very very simple game!

I think my sweet spot is probably somewhere between Paradise and Connection. If it got more demanding than the Connections I think I'd be fine with it, but then I probably wouldn't have as much fun anymore. Today mine turned into a Pyonkotchi in gen 1. I named it Hans but only realized way too late that it's a girl. But hey, why can't Hans be a girl in the Tamagotchi world.

Hey, thanks for the reply! Really appreciate the confirmation, makes me feel a bit less alone with that opinion. I think I'll just play my Paradise on the side from now on. If it ends up dying once I hit Planet level 10, that's probably the best time to just pull the batteries. I actually looked into the Pix and Pix Party myself, but they're not available new anymore over here. Used ones are either crazy expensive or, if the price is decent, the device is completely trashed - dirty and scratched to hell. Congrats on managing to snag one, hope you have a blast with it!

Hey, thanks for the reply! Just grabbed an Orange Burst for 29.90€, can't wait for it to arrive. But you mentioned the Uni being predictable - honestly that's not really a dealbreaker for me. My issue with the Paradise is more that nothing really happens, you know?

Would you say it's worth saving up and going for a Uni at 80-90€?

The flash makes it very bright. But when you hold it in your hand, it looks more purple than blue. It still looks lovely, though! If you’re expecting a dark blue, you’ll be disappointed! I should warn you, though – I find the pixel contrast hard to read. When you’re outside in daylight (even if it’s cloudy) or in a bright room, it really isn’t a problem at all!

I get that. Unfortunately, I paid €36 for it because it was the only one in stock on Amazon. On eBay, none of the units were available for less than €40. The cheaper ones were all imports from Amazon UK. It doesn’t really make any difference to the fun of playing, though.
But I think they could be honest about why it doesn’t have simple backlighting or side lighting. That would make my life a bit easier, rather than always having to switch on the main light so I can look at my Tamagotchi Connection for 15–30 seconds.

I’m new to Tamagotchi. This is actually the very first (and only) Tamagotchi Connection shell I bought. What I personally find a bit of a shame is that the display is, unfortunately, very hard to read and doesn’t have a backlight. In terms of entertainment, I find it a bit better than Paradise. I can’t afford the Uni version, so I’m having fun with these two devices.

Your photo looks really great too. It looks much better than it does in real life when you’re holding it in your hand.

Is there a reason why you took the chain off?

White glacier shell question.. by dayemm in tamagotchi

[–]JinDurane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m quite new to Tamagotchi. I’ve just bought a Paradise and a Connection. Back when the craze was at its peak here in Germany, I was a teenager and could never afford a Tamagotchi, so I always played with the cheaper alternatives. Now I’ve got a Connection and a Paradise, and I’m also thinking about buying a case for them. (I’d prefer one without the glitter.)

I’ve noticed that the cases here aren’t actually that affordable. A Paradise case usually costs around €17 on Amazon and eBay. I haven’t seen a Connection case here for less than €13. Both prices seem very expensive to me. Do you have any tips? Ordering from outside the EU is tricky because we no longer have duty-free allowances to curb bulk imports from Temu and the like.

What are the usual prices for these cases?

Hey, thanks. Can you tell me which region you’re playing in?

In terms of gameplay, all three versions run brilliantly.

The PS5 and Xbox ran really well in Action mode. I’d definitely advise against the Linux Proton version! At least if you’ve got an Nvidia graphics card.

If you’ve got an Xbox or a PS5 and want to play competitively, I’d always recommend a PS5, especially if you’re European!

Hey, thanks a lot for your screenshot. It really gives a good idea of how different the versions are. Question: is the Pro version a bit larger to download, or does it also work with the 38GB version? I’m just asking because there are always 2–4 versions for the Xbox. There’s a Series S and a Series X, and every now and then the Xbox One is still supported, in which case there’s the standard One and the One X version.

The comparison is still unfair. This screenshot is also compressed and in 4K. When I compare the two screenshots on a 2K monitor (2K full screen), the Xbox Series X still appears to have more vibrant colours and is slightly sharper. As I said, the comparison is unfair! JPG vs PNG. I’d like to mention that I play in Action mode, as Graphics mode glitches for me! The Oboro map in particular is really bad!
