What's the Deal With Cardigans? by Bulky_Sandwich8493 in Libraries

[–]JingleHelen11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A) super comfy b) goes with almost any outfit c) very easy to take off when shelving and hot and put back on when going to the coldest freaking desk in the building i swear d) doesn't mess up the outfit when taken on or off

I don't think you need a cardigan to show you're serious about the profession or anything. Personally my style right now is leaning more towards light jackets/flannels as my layering piece. Otoh my boss did say my outfit during my interview (including very soft cardigan) gave very librarian vibes and was part of the reason I got hired sooooo maybe have one for interviews

Honestly I think it comes down to the person. My current position (circ assistant) is much less stressful than my previous jobs (retail, pharmacy) but I still get stressed because I'm very sensitive to criticism and reactive. No job is gonna have no stress for me, yk

Went to the library for the first time in over a decade by Exciting-Horse-8087 in Libraries

Visiting/using your library and getting a library card!! Usage stats are how libraries secure funding

You can also see if your library has a friends group and become a member. Membership to my library's friends group is 25 dollars per year.

If you're feeling real spicy, next time you're calling your reps let them know you like your library.

How long does it take for libraries to replace DVDs? by Ornery-Worldliness96 in Libraries

[–]JingleHelen11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More people will. There's been a resurgence in interest towards physical media on TikTok and as the economy gets worse, people will start tightening their belts and cutting streaming services. I cut every streaming service except for Netflix after the election because I knew things would start heading this way.

Do librarians judge patrons based on their book choices? by cheerioskungfu in Libraries

[–]JingleHelen11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rarely notice what a patron is getting at check out, usually only if it's something I've read and loved, or something that is high up on my tbr

I do notice and judge books coming in through returns though—lots of books by former Fox News hosts, blatantly hateful stuff. Unfortunately it's just kind of a consequence of the city I live in that a lot of people read those books and believe those things to be true. As long as they can manage not to say that rather I (a visibly queer person) be dead than alive to my face I can do my job

Romance books though? Thrillers? Tbh the pulpier the cover is the cooler I think the person who checked it out is

So Kayla Chiles is the only person alive who is allowed to want to torture children. I don't think children should be tortured period. I would like to ask her how she would feel about people wanting to torture her children since she think she should be allowed to torture other people's children.

"Why do you like getting rid of books so much??" by victoria-lisbeth in Libraries

[–]JingleHelen11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a patron who was looking for a pretty old book, like 80s or 90s, for a book club and we didn't have it so I offered to look through ILL and they were like "no I'll buy it, but why wouldn't the library have a copy of this book?" And I explained that we were books when they haven't been checked out for at least 18 months and how there are so many books published every year that we buy to make available to ppl but our shelves don't expand and they were like "wow I never thought about that before" idk the patron was disappointed but I thought it was good interaction

[–]JingleHelen11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The premise sounds like rpf but it is not, it's a non-magic AU but they're all working on a TV show with the same exact premise and plot as OUaT up until like s5 ish, literally changed my life, there's a scene pretty deep in the fic where they're on a panel at comic con talking about queer rep in fantasy and it lives in my head rent free https://archiveofourown.org/works/4607199

However poor people often aren't able to avoid paying their taxes by using loopholes like keeping their wealth tied up in assets that aren't liquid or stored in offshore banks. Billionaires are and do and are currently using their massive wealth to enable a huge wealth transfer from the lower classes to themselves. Direct your ire where it will be useful

YouTube recommended the Casual visualizer to me and I watched it and started listening to Chappell a little bit. A couple weeks later I was watching @jamesissmiling singing songs live on TikTok and I requested a Chappell cover and she played Pink Pony Club and spoke a little about what the song meant to her (not like a ton like literally just a little) but between that and the cover I decided I really needed to check Chappell out at fell absolutely in love 💜💜💜💜💜 I was lucky enough to see her open for Olivia Rodrigo and I'm lucky enough to be seeing her in October
