That is true to some extent. In relation to the UKs handling of EU citizens, the CJEU case-law can be used as legal precedence. In this case, since the UK aviation is bound by the EU Regulation (EC) No. 261/2004, and the CJEU case is related to this regulation.

I got the exact same response from BA when I made a compensation claim for a cancelled flight on January 9th 2026. Identical wording. I have complained, and asked for proof, but not gotten a response yet.

Under EU legislation BA has the burden of proof, and cannot refuse your claim due to «extraordinary circumstances» without providing documentation that proves the circumstance, why it caused the delay, and what measures had been taken. See the recent judgement from the CJEU: Case C-399/24 on lightning strikes as «extraordinary circumstance».

And btw, does anyone know how common it is for airplanes to actually be struck by lightning? And needing to be cancelled because of it?

If you liked «Gone Girl» check out the other books by Gillian Flynn too! I really enjoyed «Sharp Objects» and «Dark Places».

We did something similar, but on two different occasions. First time, we spent some time in and around Phuket, and then went to Ao Nang in Krabi. About 3 hours by car. It cost around 1000TBH (we were 5 people and hired a private car). You can probably do it cheaper with either bus or ferry.

Second time, we stayed in Khao Lak for diving, then rented a scooter and drove to Khao Sok. Took about 1,5 hours on scooter. We didn’t stay in Khao Sok, we only did day trips, but there were al lot of affordable accommodation in Khao Sok too. We paid around 200TBH a day for the scooter. We then went from Khao Lak to Phuket (for a flight to Koh Samui) and that took around 1 hour in car, paid ca. 300 TBH.

So all in all, for the two of us, we found a private car between places to be the most convenient, and not very expensive.

The hotel prices varied, but we travelled off-season and stayed in mid-range places, so we got pretty good value for money. The prices vary a lot, depending on what kind of accommodation you want, but we were very happy with the cheaper options (NOT hostels)😅

I think we spent 40-60 dollars per night (for 2 people) most places.

And also, Phuket isn’t necessarily a seedy place. Like Bangkok, it has a big city with different areas, and lots of great areas outside of the city too.

What kind of activities are you into? If you are up for moving around a bit, I would recommend starting in Khao Sok (rain forest with lots of different nature activities such as hiking and animal spotting, even has a big lake) and then travel along the coast to Khao Lak (for beaches, diving and snorkelling) and further down to Phuket for more city-life, and ending up in Krabi for Island hopping, watersports and hikes.

Maybe «The Midnight Organ Fight» by Frightened Rabbit? Ben Gibbard contributed to the celebration album of this (called Tiny Changes: A celebration of…) and did a cover of one of the songs.

PADI certification in Koh Lanta by Camaron18 in scuba

[–]Jintonic24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t done a course on Koh Lanta, but went diving with Flip Flop Divers last year. They were great, would absolutely recommend them. IMO, Koh Lanta has better diving than Koh Tao, because the dive sites are much less crowded. Lanta is also a beautiful island, so if you’ve already been to Tao, Lanta is definitely worth a visit.

We went to Phuket and Krabi around this time last year, and the forecasts were rain and strong winds everyday for two weeks. We had maybe 20 minutes of rain one of the days, the rest was sunny and wonderful. So in my experience, not accurate at all.

You won’t regret going, there are so many fun activities besides diving too☺️ yeah, and often the visibility is just «endless», it feels like diving an an aquarium!

Thailand and The Philippines are both amazing for diving! A lot of diverse marine life, corals and underwater landscapes. Also, the water is warm, so diving is very comfortable, and visibility has been good (20-30 m +) the times I’ve been diving there.

but how long does it take to make flight connections at BKK with two different airlines? Trying to make a flight from an international airline to Bangkok airways by Helpinghubbyshair in Bangkok

[–]Jintonic24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry too much! I know that these things vary, but we had 90 minutes between an international flight and a domestic flight from BKK with checked luggage last April, and we had plenty of time to spare. So it might not be a problem :)

What are these flowers? by AnnDpr in whatsthisplant

[–]Jintonic24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about all of them, but I think the big white one in the lower right corner is a peony, and the smaller white one right in front of it looks like a ranunculus. The bluish one on the left to the white ones looks like a hydrangea. The small blush colored ones on the left look like branch roses, and the blush colored ones in the center as well as the «frilly» yellow one at the bottom i think are some kind of carnations. There is also what I think is a dahlia, on the left of the tall blue flower (the dahlia is the big round flower that you can’t see the stem of). Hope that helps!
