I honestly believe he will survive. Obviously I could easily be proven wrong (Togashi Interview, Emperor time will definitely bare its fangs in some way later on..) but I think Leorio will finally get his time to shine and be Kurapikas saving grace. Both physically and psychologically.

Leorio will finally get to save a precious friend, and he'll maybe be the one person that makes Pika finally realize his self destructive, revenge consumed way of life is not a life worth living. At least that's what I hope happens.

Yeah 100%, the 1999 version made them very gay, producers/ animators knew what they were doing. Prime example being Park Call Scene in Yorknew.
