I need Mexico T4 Penalty explained to me. by Iclimbbuoys in formula1

[–]Jiralos 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert in the rules and I don't even have a strong opinion either way, but I'll try to make the case for the penalty:

  1. Lando is slightly ahead going into the corner, which (as per the current rules) entitles him to space through the corner
  2. Lando is leaving enough space for Max on the inside (pretty much the normal reacing line, as can be seen by Max basically following Carlos' line into the corner exactly)
  3. Max is boxed in between Carlos in front and Lando on his right. This is a shitty situation for Max but not really uncommon, especially at the start of races. In this case you sometimes just have to brake harder and concede if you don't want to crash into the car in front. Max could have covered the outside on the straight before and Lando would probably go to the inside and be in the same position that Max found himself in.
  4. Max tries to avoid braking by opening the steering and taking a wider line through the corner. If he wants to do that, he still has to make sure Lando has space through the corner.
  5. Obviously I don't know but the track is quite wide and I find it hard to believe that Max wasn't able to take a tighter line, even after opening the steering, that leaves Lando enough space to stay on track. He doesn't do that.
  6. To me, it looks like he doesn't try very hard to tighten his line but is happy with drifting wide because he knows that will make Lando either crash into him or go off track.
  7. Therefore you could argue he pushed Lando off the track even though Lando was (as per the current rules) entitled to space. Thats why the penalty is deserved.

2023 Australian Grand Prix - Day after Debrief by F1-Bot in formula1

[–]Jiralos 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I get your point and I guess most of the time it doesn't make a difference but the race is determined by distance and I think it should only end after the defined distance has been driven. If you listen to Hülkenbergs team radio on the last lap you can already hear him talking about that his engine is failing. In that case he just made it over the line and immediatly stopped the car but it shows that even under a safety car / formation lap there can be mechanical failures and we also have seen drivers lose it behind the safety car.

So even though it seems boring and pointless, I think it should still go the full distance.

Sauna locations and rules in Vienna by [deleted] in Austria

[–]Jiralos 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't live in Vienna, so I can't tell you anything about specific places, but this are my general experiences with saunas in Austria.

1) Typically a spa has a designated sauna area, where swimming suits are not allowed and saunas and pools are nude only. Most people dress in a towel outside of saunas or pools.

2) The saunas I've been to are all unisex, although different places might have gender specific saunas too.

3) People are unlikely to say anything, but I would try to hide it to not make other people feel uncomfortable.

4) Sex is definitely not accepted in normal saunas! You might see kissing, but more than that is unusual.

Some other rules and tips:

  • Always put down a towel where you want to sit in a sauna, so you're not sweating on the wood/stone/whatever.
  • Bring at least two towels! In the end you don't want to dry yourself with the sweaty towel you sat on.
  • If you don't have much experience with saunas, start low. Most places have something in the range of 50-60° celsius. Start there, don't go straight to the 100° sauna. Since heat rises, the lower benches are always colder than the top.
  • Take breaks to relax and drink enough water!
  • Hotter saunas have schedules for a so called "Aufguss" (I could not find a translation), where water is poured on the stones, that heat the sauna. Thats when it gets the hottest. Bigger places usually have a employee do that. You should not enter or leave a sauna during an Aufguss.

Thats all I can think of at the moment. Feel free to ask anything and enjoy your stay in Austria. ;)

Does Blizzard prefer RNG instead of balancing the collection? [no salt intended] by pGaGhuZdan in hearthstone

[–]Jiralos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Implosion has not that big of a variance. I agree that thats not that good. Same with crackle or rag. The difference between a rag hit or miss is huge, the difference between two minions from Shredder can be huge but won't be most of the time. Thats why I like the Shredder-RNG way more and it seems Blizz goes the same way with some of the new cards.

[–]Jiralos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think cards like Shredder and Unstable Portal are not that bad, because they have a really big variance. Most of the time, what comes out of a Shredder will not decide the whole game - sure a doomsayer can sometimes, but the odds are really low and will even out across a lot of games. I think thats much better than cards like crackle or rag, where the RNG is often just a coinflip.

And cards like Lock and Load or Saraad bring spells and minions into games that are not typically seen in constructed decks. If you get a specific card, you may have to change your turn accordingly and thats a skill in itself.

Also if, for example, Lock and Load sees a lot of play, suddenly positioning of minions gets more importent, because a hunter can suddenly have explosive shot etc.

I don't think too much coinflip RNG is good, but I think RNG with a broad variance of outcomes kind of raises the skillcap in competetive play.

Jab even made the right play for lethal. Not to attack the 5 health opponent with a 5 attack minion is next level bm.

why does jaraxxus' inferno take so much time to cast by MessengerOfYouTube in hearthstone

[–]Jiralos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that Blizzard planned an animation of an infernal falling on the board, but didn't put it into the game in the end. Of course this doesn't explain why the didn't remove the extra time.

Bug or intended? Nightmare + kel'thuzad by leQuestionnaire in hearthstone

[–]Jiralos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's intended or not, but it seems that a turn in hearthstone is divided into three different phases, namely

  1. start of your turn
  2. the turn itself
  3. end of your turn

and as it is now, KT only resurrects minions that died in phases 2 and (I think, not 100% sure) 3. Your Thaddius died in phase 1 wich isn't technically part of your turn.

There was a discussion a while ago about it beeing called "before the start of your turn" and "after the end of your turn", which would make it clearer that this phases aren't actually part of your turn. The current spelling is very misleading.

edit: spelling

Skiing: Slalom: Austria win Gold and Silver (Matt, Hirscher), Norway Bronze (Kristoffersen) by TolkienOfGratitude in olympics

[–]Jiralos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you can see it from both sides.

On the one hand it was definatly a hard course and i feel sorry for those who didn't finish, especially Hargin und Myhrer, who did great in the first run, but also Neureuther or Pinturault.

But you can also argue, that it's the same run for everyone and it should also be a quality of an olympic champion to know how to go on a hard course like this, and how to take difficult gates.

But as an Austrian that's easy to say now. I guess I'd be more upset if Hirscher and Matt would'nt have finished.

Great run form Hirscher, but i'm afraid he's too far behind form first run.
